HERSH: There was a meeting. Among the items considered and rejected — which is why the New Yorker did not publish it, on grounds that it wasn’t accepted — one of the items was why not…
There was a dozen ideas proffered about how to trigger a war. The one that interested me the most was why don’t we build — we in our shipyard — build four or five boats that look like Iranian PT boats. Put Navy seals on them with a lot of arms. And next time one of our boats goes to the Straits of Hormuz, start a shoot-up. Might cost some lives. And it was rejected because you can’t have Americans killing Americans. That’s the kind of — that’s the level of stuff we’re talking about. Provocation. But that was rejected. So I can understand the argument for not writing something that was rejected — uh maybe. My attitude always towards editors is they’re mice training to be rats.
But the point is jejune, if you know what that means. Silly? Maybe. But potentially very lethal. Because one of the things they learned in the incident was the American public, if you get the right incident, the American public will support bang-bang-kiss-kiss. You know, we’re into it. …What happened in the Gulf was, in the Straits, in early January, the President was just about to go to the Middle East for a visit. So that was one reason they wanted to gin it up. Get it going. Look, is it high school? Yeah. Are we playing high school with you know 5,000 nuclear warheads in our arsenal? Yeah we are. We’re playing, you know, who’s the first guy to run off the highway with us and Iran.
FYI
#65 “or do you just ignore the conclusions – that we could not have won in Vietnam anyway.”
Obviously reading isn’t fundamental for you. I never said we could have won in Vietnam. Keep frothing at mouth though. LOL
#65, This thread is about Hersh. Obviously reading isn’t fundamental with you, you’ll blather bullshit any place you see it.
#67 Still won’t answer huh? LOL
#62, Cmon,
Mr Fusion, my point is that there are no “facts”, just allegation and innuendo that remain unconfirmed.
No you didn’t you wrote in #53:
Why does skepticism of the God of Journalism Sy Hersh imply love of Bush/Cheney/fascism? By the way, God Hersh predicted a nuclear strike on Iran based on his unimpeachable sources as long ago as 2005.
I called you on that bullshit and now you deny saying it?
*
How much was merely innuendo with a clear partisan purpose? Difficult to determine. This is why I have trouble buying anything that he writes. You, on the other hand, believe everything he writes/says because it validates your world view.
Until his allegations are shown incorrect, they stand. In the absence of any other evidence, you refuse to consider he might be valid. Hersh has been correct about so many things and has not been shown to be wrong.
You suggest you need evidence. Will you accept another denial from the White House?
Hersh told us the Yellow Cake was bullshit. He was right.
Hersh told us Abu Graib was happening. He was right.
Hersh told us there were no WMDs. He was right.
Hersh told us the aluminum tubes were NOT for a nuclear program. He was right.
YOU claim Hersh predicted the US would nuke Iran. He never predicted it.
Hersh told us that Cheney wanted to kill Americans in a phony attempt to garner support for an attack on Iran. Bush’s aggressive comments and posturing seem to bear that out. I think Hersh is right again.
I guess we disagree.
Yes, wing nut have a hard time handling the truth.
Well if my post hadn’t been kept in sequestration, you’d have links to some previous blog posts predicting a war with Iran. Look up The Coming Wars, by Sy Hersh. I think that was 2005.
This reminds me a bit of the stuff on the dailykooks site. I’m a TU over there. Early last year there was all this noise on how the US was going to invade Iran ANY day. It was taken as gospel. I watched as people gave reasoned arguments as to why it wasn’t going to happen this year (2007) only to watch them be TR’ed out of existence.
It’s hilarious to see that this myth is STILL taken as gospel by the brain dead people on this site.
Speaking of brain dead, lets “assume” Hersh did report on plans to invade/nuke Iran. Then it didn’t happen. So what? Plans change, especially when they get revealed?
Nice red herring there anyway. Whats it got to do with Cheney’s brain storming a pretext for war? Absolutely nothing.
Illogic + red herring = good neo con thinking.
#70, Lyin’ Mike,
Then post your links again.
#71, Cow-Paddy,
Wing nuts have a hard time differentiating between fact and opinion. But why am I not surprised you like to visit a site called “dailykooks”?
“TR’ed out of existence”? Whatever kind of wing nut acronym that is. I guess you would know though.
#74, peahead,
Hersch is a kook. The fact that he echoes or blows the whistle from time to time on true facts is becuase a) is a fact that furthers his agenda and b) makes him look credible for when he pulls stunts like this, giving his followers fodder to keep inane rants like the ones here.
Another shoot the messenger response. You claim he is wrong. WHERE ???
Don’t suggest little things like he claimed 189 kids were raped by Blackwater when there were only 146 confirmed. Give an example of a story he wrote that was incorrect along with the supported truth.
