Sheikh flies Lamborghini 6,500 miles to Britain for oil change | Exclusive pictures of the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 supercar arriving in Heathrow | The Sun |News

The £190,000 supercar was put on a scheduled flight from Qatar to Heathrow – then flown BACK after the oil check. Money was no object as the flight would have cost the owner – thought to be a Sheikh – around £20,000.

The move sparked fury from green campaigners. An airport worker said: “This car doesn’t have a carbon footprint – more of a crater.”

The overall cost of sending the Lamborghini to London for the oil change would have cost more than £23,000. His black-and-gold supercar costs £3,552 to service at an approved dealer – on top of the £20,000 to freight from Qatar to Britain.

The Murciélago LP640 – driven by Batman in movie The Dark Knight – arrived from the Middle Eastern country on Friday.

So you’re telling me that in the Middle East where a majority of these cars are headed, there is not one Lambo dealer who can change the oil? This is fishy.

Sheikh flies Lamborghini £6,500 miles to Britain for oil change

    ummmmmmm typo?
or does britain now have “pound” miles?

    [Thanks, fixed. – ed.]

  2. McCullough says:

Why change the oil, just toss it and get a new one.

  3. MotaMan says:

Lamborghini UK spokeswoman Juliet Jarvis said there could be “kudos” for a Middle Eastern owner in servicing a car in London.

WTF, do I get a happy ending or what?

  4. hhopper says:

They’ve got so damned much money over there, they have to find new ways to spend it.

  5. QB says:

At the very least, you’d think Italy would be closer.

Here’s a list of Lamborghini dealers worldwide.

  6. Typical example of the warped mindset of eco-nuts. Sheik has money to waste, sheik wastes money… It is his to do whatever he wants that is not illegal (and hopefully nanny-state will not make flying cars illegal). In addition to his free will, he shares his fortune with airline employees (paid to ship the car) and UK dealership … So, some of the money grabbed through the oil sales comes back. Now, if more of Sheiks would do similar things worldwide economy would do better.

  7. David says:

Or wouldn’t it be cheaper to fly a couple of mechanics down there?

  8. comhcinc says:

why not just fly the mechanics out to the car? why risk damaging the car in transit?

  9. Cap'nKangaroo says:

what is with the remark about the green footprint of shipping it to London on a scheduled flight? the flight was going to go whether the car was on board or not. the extra weight would cause the airline to load (and use) a little more fuel, but it is ludicrous to place the entire carbon footprint for the flight on the car.

Oh, never mind. Just noticed the story was from The SUN.

  11. apeguero says:

#5, funny but it’s the first thing I thought when I saw this last week 🙂

Talk about these rich Shieks wiping their asses with Western money.

  12. Highqham says:

Let’s see: It cost £3,552 to change the oil (or was that to check the oil as said first?) At about $1.95 to the pound that comes to almost $7,000. Do you have to disassemble the engine to change/check the oil?

Wow, I wonder what Jiffy Lube would charge?

I’ll have to see what’s involved. I bet I could do it for $6,000!

  13. dwight david diddlehopper says:

Hey, it’s better to have them spending their money that way than using it to spread wahabiism.

  14. jbenson2 says:

Glad to see the Sheikh is following the wisdom of the Messiah.

Obama, the Citizen of the World, declared from the mountain top that the world would save cubits and cubits of oil if we would just use tire gauges and have tune ups.

  15. JimR says:

    Stupid car for a dumbass.

  16. ren says:

They can’t just fly mechanics in, I mean where would they find oil in the middle east…. wait nm…

  17. Joe says:

God help us when their wells run dry and they start exporting their inbred lunacy in place of oil.

  18. framitz says:

The stupidity is not so unbelievable.

I saw a late model high end Mercedes out in the middle of the desert in Saudi Arabia. The story was that it got stuck in the sand, the owner got fed up and just left it. I asked about slavage and was told that the owner still owns it so salvage would be theft, the car was left there to be taken by the blowing sand.

  19. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz says:

An American Ambassador used to fly a crew from Roll Royce, from England to Burma to change oil, flat tire, tighten up loose screws etc. He don’t let anybody touch it, not even for a minor things. Well he let the driver wash it, he must only use brand new towels, specially made for him from a textile plant in town.

  20. eyeofthetiger says:

    Tits.

  21. The answer says:

Real men change their own oil.

  22. deowll says:

We have not nations might as well start learning we can like it or lump it when it comes to the behavior of the nations that have.

There is no reason he should care what a bunch of British or Americans think about the way he spends his money.

  23. OmegaMan says:

Well ya, its more eco-friendly to fly it to Italy than the UK. Come-on!

  24. BigCarbonFoot says:

    Hope he does it again.

  25. lou says:

Thats when you know you have to much cash.

  26. brendal says:

You should see how much it costs to change the oil on a camel!! (rim shot)

  27. Rick Cain says:

Don’t blame the sheikh for being rich, his wealth is due to the financial futures market pumping up the price of oil to astronomically silly levels. Heck the King of Saudi Arabia said he was puzzled as to why oil was so expensive, they were pumping it out in normal amounts as always. You know its bad when even the Saudis say oil is overpriced.
Point the finger straight at the finance market.
