Oprah Denies Jesus as Sole Way to God

A new video which features popular talk show host Oprah Winfrey denying Jesus as the only way to God has received over 5 million views on several reporting video sites. […T]he ‘new age’ philosophy the video attributes Oprah with spreading has been a cause of concern for many Christians for some time. Many believe the day-time host is leading many into spiritual confusion by distorting the gospel message of Christianity.

One pastor likened Oprah’s ‘many ways to God’ approach as a ‘blind man’ drawing close to the edge of a dangerous cliff. “She holds the trendy idea that religions are essentially the same,” writes Steven W. Cornell, a Pennsylvania-based pastor.

“She irrationally romanticizes the notion that God can be whatever you want him/her/it to be,” Cornell continues to write.

LivePrayer.com founder Bill Keller, an internet-based program on faith and values, believes Oprah may be starting her ‘own cult.’

When speaking with the Celebrity News Service, Keller said, “She has an incredible amount of influence over people and an incredible following.”

Who cares? I didn’t think this blog was for this kind of article. This isn’t a story except for the fundies.

  2. Uncle Dave says:

#31: It’s amazing that after all these years some people still don’t understand that this blog is about EVERYTHING. And since you don’t get why this item was posted here, I will help you: This story isn’t about religion. It’s about Oprah, one of the most powerful people in the US.

  3. cranky pants says:

Time for your meds Mustard, you’re blathering stupidly again. I really hope you don’t have children. You clearly are a follower in need of a leader. Would you feel better if Limbaugh had said it?

  4. bac says:

When it comes to life after death, I think Ockham’s razor should be used. When people die, nothing else happens. No after life. No reincarnation. No resurrection. All they do is become the dead.

As for Oprah having her own church, this is America. If you do not like the interpretation of the bible being spouted at the church you are going to now, then create your own church. That is the American way.

As I have said before, churches and religions are like Linux distributions.

  5. cranky pants says:

And for once she is making sense Uncle Dave. Like the return of Jesus the woman mentioned, the return of the Imam that dove in the well will come when the world is in chaos. Blah, blah, blah. An open mind is less likely to be as prone to violence as those that believe “my way or the highway”. Most of these “christians” like the audience member in the video are what I consider to be cult members akin to the fundamentalists in Texas and scientologists. Scary, scary people.

  6. MikeN says:

Well of course she would think that. Didn’t she spend the last few months saying the way to god was Obama?

  7. #23 – Dally

    >>I’ll tell you what. Some of these Jesus freaks
    >>are downright scary. If you enter into a
    >>disagreement with one, it’s best to do so on
    >>line where you’re safe from gunfire.

Same thing goes for the Atheist Freaks. I’m glad I’m not within shooting range of some of those loony tunes. Man, those guys can be scary!!

  8. J says:

I don’t even know where to start on this completely fucking ridiculous video.

This is all about her connection to Obama and it is using the fear of the end of days. How fucking pathetic.

I don’t know who is behind this Obama smear campaign but my guess is Carrington Steele the author of “Don’t Drink The Kool-Aid: Oprah, Obama and the Occult” is connected to them somehow. The title is priceless and clearly exposes the true intentions of this little campaign.

This is pathetic and anyone who believes this crap is ripe pickings for a cult themselves. They use the same tactics that other cults use. Go watch a scientology video and then watch this again. Notice the similarities.

  9. Gary, the dangerous infidel says:

“Even if you reject God, he still loves you.”

Maybe so, Mister Mustard, but I’d bet 100 Gideon Bibles that Oprah loves me even more 😉

    Hallelujah! Praise the Oprah!

#38 J, I was just thinking the same thing even before I saw your comment. It struck me that this looked like a cheap attempt to diminish the value of Oprah’s endorsement to Obama. The timing is a little too “Rovian” to be coincidental.

  10. Justin From Penn says:

Next on Dvorak Uncensored: Oprah Isn’t Shinto!

I’ll be watching UD’s posts to keep me up to date on what the Big O’s religious beliefs are.

  11. Ron Larson says:

Man she is one smart cookie! Turn your enterprise into a tax free church. Wow! Good on ya Oprah.

  12. GetSmart says:

So is Oprah the Anti-Church Lady now? Huh? What? What?

  13. joe says:

I had an evangelical christian roommate once. We would have arguments that went like this:

Him: Jesus is the only way to God.
    Me: How do you know?
Him: The bible says it, plain as day
Me: How do you know the Bible is true?
Him: The Bible is the unadulterated word of God, how could it not be true?
Me: How do you know it’s the unadulterated word of God?
Him: It SAYS SO IN THE BIBLE.

At this point the best thing to do is say “Okay. Makes sense to me. Thanks” because there is absolutely nothing you can say that will convince them that this is a circular argument. But this is what we are dealing with here. People who are totally incapable of rational thought or critical thinking. That is why we have museums depicting people riding on dinosaurs.

  14. Stephanie says:

FIrst of all, can’t get past the creepy sound effects in the beginning. Second of all, can’t get past the bad spelling.

Sorry but I can’t disagree with the big O on this topic. But I don’t think she is preaching religion rather than spirituality. I would think it is high time in this world that someone talk about similarities in religion and spirituality rather than our differences. Our differences pointed out over and over again cause pain and suffering in this world. It is quite sad that a talk show host has to point this out but better that we get to that sooner rather than never!

  15. Likes2LOL says:

Oprah doesn’t need any more money, so now she’s opting to tell the truth the way she sees it — good for her.

#14 – The only real god is the FSM.
#28 – I think it’s time to bring back Bokononism

“She irrationally romanticizes the notion that God can be whatever you want him/her/it to be,”
Is not that the unitarien version?

  17. Mr. Fusion says:

Why do people continually post links to YouTube as a reference. Any idiot can come up with some garbage and post it. YouTube (and similar sites) are not authoritative. They are propaganda where the director can edit the piece to anything he wants.

This moran on the bike is looking for a Darwin Award. He is riding in heavy traffic and continually talking. Hey Zeus might be his co-pilot, but the lack of attention to what he is doing and the lack of monitoring his surroundings (he stares straight ahead), are dangerous and just waiting for an accident. Not to mention he changes lanes without signaling or turning his head.

  18. Mister Ketchup says:

Jesus H. Christ, did I miss a religious thread? Will Oprah be axing for donations? Can I just drop coins in the slots in the back of my TV set? Will she be smacking people in the head and healing them? Sorry for all the questions but this God shit really gets me fired up.

  19. QB says:

#45 An open source religion? Are the API’s sanctioned by a standard’s body? Which license does it run under?

I hate it when some yo-yo (yup, pun intended) sticks a techno-babble tag into marketing and/or religion. It’s not just the fundamentalists who require a suspension of belief (pun squared).

  20. Mr. Fusion says:

If you want to believe in a supreme being, then good for you. That is your choice. Go ahead and tell me I’m going to hell. Just stay out of my face when you tell me.

I am not an atheist. I don’t believe in a god or supreme being. If there is anyone superior to humans, then they evolved, just like us, on some distant planet. Maybe even in a distant galaxy.

Atheist is what those who believe there is supreme being have decided to call me. That is their name, not mine. The same as years ago we called them Eskimos. Little did the white man know that that was because their enemies called them that as a derogatory. They call themselves Inuit and are highly offended at the name Eskimo.

Well, I call myself NORMAL. I am convinced there is no “guy in the sky”. I have no “theism” or faith system. I am convinced that I will cease to exist once I die except for the moldering thing, that was once my body, returns to the dust from which it arose. I am convinced that applies to everyone and every living thing on this planet.

Does believing in a supreme being make you an idiot? Yup. The same as believing that John McCain would make a good President, that Bush didn’t lie about Iraq to start a war, or the world was created in seven days. Geeze, does anyone notice the commonality of those three things.

  21. Dee says:

Do the people that do not believe in God complain about the TV stations that spread the bs from Christians? No, they can care less… They do not feel threatened…I am with Oprah on this one. Who should care what I call my Goddess? NOBODY…as long as I live happy

  22. Gina says:

Oprah gives advice on relationships, but has a boy friend who is a door mat … gives advice on marriage, but has never been married … gives advice on child rearing, but has no children … gives advice on Obama, but was a member of Jeremiah Wright’s anti-American racist church for several years. Now, her white women’s audience, which made Oprah rich, wants to know more about Sarah Palin, but Oprah says NO !!!

  23. Howard says:

OPRAH … from spending several years in Jeremiah Wright’s anti-American racist church, listening to sermons like “God Damn America”, and giving life time achievement awards to the likes of Louis Farrakhan … to her newest opportunistic religious beliefs … who could possibly take Oprah seriously? This woman’s ego is soooo big, being a billionaire celebrity isn’t enough, she has to start her own religion … not to mention all the additional money she is going to make selling all those book, tapes, CD’s, etc. to her poor followers. Oprah’s new power hungry ambitions include efforts to replace traditional America with Obama … and access to a President she puts into office … to her efforts at replacing Christianity with a new religion she controls. I think it’s time for America to deny Oprah access to our television sets.

  24. Pray to God, but hammer away.
