Barack Obama’s Iowa crowd elects him president already | Top of the Ticket | Los Angeles Times — As this progresses it does indeed look like a Thomas Dewey scenario. This guy has apparently won without playing the game out.

But before listening to his usual stump speech, the crowd, perhaps spontaneously, perhaps not, had something that seemed just right to do for their guy, according to the From the Road blog of CBS News’ Allison O’Keefe. The nominee-to-be’s fans sang “Happy Birthday” to him. On Monday Obama will turn 47.

But the happy crowd did not sing the song, “Happy Birthday, Senator Obama.”

It was a small but revealing thing. The very confident crowd sang the song, “Happy Birthday, Mr. President.”

And Barack Obama looked very pleased to hear it.

So What? So he’s president of Iowa.

  2. matula says:

It doesn’t seem any different than when they introduce the candidates as “The next President of United States”. Both parties have been doing that for as long as I remember.

  3. soundwash says:

eesh…has the whole country gotten punch-drunk on this guys cool-aid?

it is clever though..he’s basically being marketed like a brandy-new “product”. -i’d mention what that is reminiscent of, but then i’d be flamed for sure..

this one year we could really use a third party alternative that really cares about the country, not some left or right bought and paid for ideology.. -the two current ones will destroy whats left of it.

-they both make great hand puppets
    nonetheless.

  4. MikeN says:

The reaction of the media to Barack Obama is more surprising. He doesn’t give them access even 1% of what McCain does, but they are in love with him. Battered wife syndrome it is.

  5. Noam Sane says:

Well, after eight years of president monkey-poo-for-brains, and considering the alternative, yeah, sure.

Who would you want your kid to emulate? A guy who wants a job so bad, he spews slime in every direction? These last few McCain ads…what can you say?

Obama, whatever his perceived faults(and of course he doesn’t appeal to Knucklehead Conservatives, those Very Wise Men who have given us such Good Times!)…is a thoughtful and intelligent guy WHO ACTUALLY STUDIES THE ISSUES HE’S TALKING ABOUT.

Get on board, John. Be cranky about other things.

  6. Noam Sane says:

“this one year we could really use a third party alternative”

Yeah, and flying ponies that shit ice cream…that would be cool too!

  7. JimD says:

Let’s face it, the campaign is OVER !!! McBush laid out his “Vision” for America – MORE OF THE SAME !!! And the people don’t want it !!! Obama has advocated for CHANGE, whethere you believe it or not !!! And the people DON’T WANT ANY MORE OF WHAT THE REPUBLICANS OFFER !!! So, look for a Democratic LANDSLIDE, with Obama winning easily, and carrying MORE DEMOCRATS INTO CONGRESS, and washing a lot of Republicans OUT !!! This will become more and more apparent after Labor Day and when people pay more attention to the Election. The Media is currently screaming about the election merely to have something other than the weather and ball scores to report !!!

#7 “And the people don’t want it !!! Obama has advocated for CHANGE, whethere you believe it or not !!!”

I guess that’s why the latest national poll (after Obama embarrassed himself in the EU) has both candidates tied…

Whoops, I should have used more caps & exclams in my post. 😉

  9. The Monster's Lawyer says:

#8 Paddy-Cake – What happened in EU? Did I miss something?

  10. Paddy-O says:

#9 He was busy going from a 14 point lead to a no point lead. I think he needs to shake up his campaign staff…

  11. MikeN says:

John, you still think McCain is going to win, and are you taking bets?

  12. MikeN says:

PaddyO, McCain’s stubbornness and wrongness on the issues will do him in. He won’t flip flop on everything, while Obama will.

  13. BigCarbonFoot says:

The more O’Vomit talks, the more his arrogance comes out. He thinks he just making the motions on the way to his coronation – hmmm sounds familiar….

If the Dems are smart, there will actually be a battle for the nomination at their convention.

  14. Peter iNova says:

Truman Beats McCain! Now there’s your headline.

  15. A_B says:

How dare that uppity black allow his audience say something that he had nothing to do with? My god. Truly, the behavior of audience in Iowa over which he can exert no control illustrates the core of his being and his presumptuousness.

Another nice catch John. You’re buffing your reputation to a fine sheen with this stuff.

#15 “How dare that uppity black allow his audience say something that he had nothing to do with?”

Yep, Omama had nothing to do with this! LOL

You have it wrong. It’s “uppity mulatto”…

  18. Smartalix says:

    16,

So McCain is some kind of humble guy shyly running for the presidency?

You have no other real criticism, so you pick on the fact that he is popular? that’s really reaching. All presidential candidates are prima-donna ego junkies by definition.

  19. Yap all you like, losers. Obama is our next President. McBush doesn’t have a chance. The Repugs woulda been better off nominating Romney. So, he’s an adherent of that weird faith, big woop. At least he’s not an idiot. And he has that nice “Rock Hudson” chin.

McBush might have been a contender against Bonzo (or maybe JFK), but in 2008 he’s irrelevant. A token candidate.

  20. MikeN says:

    Truman did beat Strom Thurmond.

  21. Brian says:

I’m guessing a good 10% of the ‘republikan’ party will simultaneously have their heads explode if Obama is elected president.

A democrat elected president? A *black* democrat elected president? Somewhere I see Billo and Rush curled up in the fetal position sucking their thumbs.

  22. Paddy-O says:

We should start a pool, with odds, $5 minimum.

  23. MikeN says:

#5, the Obama ads I’ve seen haven’t been positive either. Obama in color vs McCain in black and white is your standard negative attack ad. I imagine McCain is doing the same thing, but he doesn’t have the money to run many I think so I haven’t seen them.
