ST. LOUIS — Talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said if the St. Louis Rams came up for sale, he might be interested in buying the team.
Rush Limbaugh Limbaugh told KMOX radio in St. Louis that NFL ownership is a “billionaire’s club.” He said he’s not part of that club, but is in good financial shape.
Limbaugh said any move he makes would be a business decision, and not based on his ties to the region. Limbaugh is from Cape Girardeau, Mo.
“The worst thing that could happen is for a fan to buy the team,” he said. “When I say this to people, they say, ‘That’s crazy, it would be fun.’ It’s a billion-dollar business.”
The Rams owners have said the team is not for sale, but there has been speculation they could be swayed by the right offer. Longtime owner Georgia Frontiere died earlier this year. Her children are majority owners.
Thanks James Hill.

I’m a Rams fan, but I’ll have to root for another team if Rush buys the franchise.
Poor St. Louis, first they lose A-B. Now this.
And he speaks to his mother with a mouth like that.
I have always wondered, HOW much money a person needs…NOT WANTS.
I don’t believe that will happen due to his ESPN comments concerning Donovan McNabb. The NFL owners could never approve the sale due to the Player’s Union objections. Unless of course, Rush makes a substantial contribution to the NFL Players retirement fund.
As a native of St. Louis, I am offended by this.
holy crap…..we wouldn’t want a mean spirited guy like Limbaugh to own an NFL team. We want to leave the NFL to the real nice people like Jerry Jones and Al Davis.
[ED: And Bill Bidwell]
These comments are what you get when people “feel” instead of “think”. Agree or disagree with his politics (I happen to agree with most, but not all, of the things he says), anyone who has listened to his football analysis knows that Rush knows football.
Whether this makes him qualified to own a team and not run it into the ground, I have a feeling time will tell, but you all should stop being so ad hominem.
#8. I’m not mad at homonyms, although “your” and “you’re” piss me off occasionally. 🙂
Actually Esteban, those are homophone.
As a native of St. Louis, I think this is the best thing that could happen to the Rams. None of the other local “money” in STL has stepped up to purchase a majority share in the Cards, Blues or Rams in some time. And there’s plenty of old money floating around that town.
Rush will play the “smart management” game because he has to: Limbaugh probably only has enough cash to buy a portion of the Rosenbloom’s share of the team, which is only about 60% of the total ownership (a Wal-Mart heir’s husband has the other 40%).
If I understand NFL rules correctly, Rush would have to purchase 40% of the total team out of the Rosenbloom’s share to become “the boss”. The Wal-Mart heir can’t be the front man for the team as he also owns an NHL team and an NBA team.
As for the NcNabb comments, they won’t be held against him for one reason: He turned out to be right. The NFL propped NcNabb up as the Great Black Hope for about five years… and he failed miserably. That’s exactly what Rush called the NFL out for doing, and the player’s association doesn’t want to throw McNabb under the bus by bringing it all up again.
Cigars are breath fresheners for people that eat shit.
Keith Olbermann once described the real life Rush (paraphrasing from memory) as a grey almost colorless man who would sell out his fans for a chance to be a sportscaster.
I can’t see the other NFL owners loving the idea though. He comes with a bit of baggage.
#12, he doesn’t eat shit, it actually comes *out* of his mouth…
#6 “Ditto”
#13 – Considering KO sold out his sports fans to become a political hack (and not even a first place political hack), I’d say the pot’s worship of the kettle is noted.
Just because more people listen to him in one hour than will listen to any of you in your lifetimes is no reason to get pissy.

Yup, me bad. 😉
Second note to self, don’t review code coverage reports while posting.
Bush owned a baseball team.
Alright, who keeps playing Pink Floyd songs and where is the off switch?
Seriously, ‘Money’ is practically prophesy with that guy. Anything for money.
#12 “Cigars are breath fresheners for people that eat shit.”
Really? I thought Clinton showed us what cigars were for…
James Hill,
Nice try, hack.
as for your schoolgirl exuberance over the percentages and potential for the team…. Aren’t they going back to LA? St Louis has two things going of it; crime and a lousy arch.
#21 “Aren’t they going back to LA?”
For the last 10 years…
Maybe Rush could buy the Rams and move them to Florida…at least then Florida would have ONE decent NFL team….
Rush loves to remind his listeners that he is a big Steelers fan. I guess since there’s not much trading this won’t matter as much.
Rush would have made for a great Monday Night Football analyst, the second comind of Howard Cosell.
#11, Rush wasn’t right in his McNabb comments, since if the media was just trying to promote a black quarterback, then Steve McNair should have been getting more press.
#16, nailed it
and Keith was a first class sportscaster.
It would be super if Rush bought the Washington Redskins. It would put Rush right in the middle of D.C. and drive the liberal pols absolutely nuts.
16,
I think they listen to him for HUMOR, more then TRUTH, FACT, or any other reasoning.
He’s going to need another job after liberals get thru banning him under Pres Obama, all in the name of free speech.
Right you are MikeN. But he will still have his internet site.
I think it would be great! You guys have no idea as to the meaning of fun. What else do the RAMs have going for them. Heck, he should buy the Niners.
John I think your right. No matter how you feel about his politics he is entertaining. It is like watching a slow motion train wreck.I always thought this picture of him looked like he has a large brown penis in his mouth. The N.Y. times had an article about him and his new 400 million dollar contract. It was very apparent that the author was impressed by the man.
