Greg McKendry died defending others. A man accused of shooting dead two people in a Tennessee church was motivated by hatred of liberals and anger at being jobless. Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen said they had found a letter in Jim Adkisson’s car in which he described his feelings.
There were about 200 people in the church, which is known for its liberal stance, at the time of Sunday’s attack. Mr Adkisson, 58, has been charged with first-degree murder.
Children were putting on a play at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church when a gunman entered with a 12-gauge shotgun and opened fire on the congregation.
The Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church describes itself on its website as working for social change since the 1950s, including desegregation, racial harmony, fair wages, women’s rights and gay rights.
A criminal act – by an illogical demented fool. One of the species of “hero” who sets out to kill those who disagree with his pitiful beliefs.
The only hero on the day was Greg McKendry who deliberately stepped in front of Adkisson’s shotgun to protect his friends – and died.
A sad story.
What’s impressive is the fact that this church is liberal. Gay rights even!
It was Gods will.
Only hero? Shouldn’t the group that overpowered him be called heroes?
I guess Rush Limbaugh has earned his BLOOD MONEY !!!
People like this are fueled by the hatred of right wing radio and tv, media that pushes an agenda of hate and intolerance. People like this obviously have mental deficiencies, but when you have powerful media figures like Rush and O’Reilly who continue to push that agenda, over and over, mentally weak people crack.
It’s interesting to see so-called ‘liberal’ media that attacks core issues that this country faces, whereas right-wing radio only focuses their hate on individuals.
Must have been some play the kids were putting on. We can only conclude that Adkisson didn’t approve and gave the performance two thumbs down.
No matter how you spin this one it all comes down to the only person responsible is Adkisson.
Perhaps a fair punishment is to place him in a cell with Butch McDick until the day of his execution.
Another good reason to pass on church.
>>One of the species of “hero” who sets out to
>>kill those who disagree with his pitiful beliefs.
Are you implying somehow that this kook was affiliated with the church? The Unitarian Universalist Church???
Or by his “pitiful beliefs”, do you mean his “hatred of liberals and anger at being jobless.”??
Conservative values do not make one prone to murder, however, mental illness does. Compare and contrast the hatred of Daily Kos posters to those of Little Green Footballs for proof.
Time to the let 48 hour clock to run on this and see why this guy decided that killing a group of innocent people at church was a good idea.
My thoughts and wishes are for the survivors and the families of the victims. The nature of the offender is of little concern to me right now.
Carlin missed this by just a couple of months….
Why didn’t God protect these people? Where the fuck was Jesus?
#12 It was a Unitarian Church.
Mental illness is tied to being a liberal
So, do you have some real number on that, or is it just some shit you heard on the radio?
James is an expert on mental illness, since he, himself, suffers from it.
Religious nutjob kills people. That’s not news, that’s daily life. Apparently Commandment #5 doesn’t count anymore.
#9 – RSweeney – Conservative values do not make one prone to murder…
Through proxies (e.g. voting in warmongers), they do.

>>Religious nutjob kills people. That’s

What the fuck is wrong with you? Where do you get the idea that the killer was a “religious nutjob”? The guy KILLED PEOPLE AT A FUCKING CHURCH. He was not a member of the church. He was some fucking loser (probably an Atheist) who hated the Unitarians enough to start shooting them.
Next time, read the fucking story before you start with the verbal diarrhea, OK?
You’re a disgrace to religion-haters everywhere.
#17 the answer
The Ten Commandments don’t seem to count because many of the political correct among us view them as judgmental therefore to be ridiculed.
It comes down to when you take God out of your society you take away the moral compass. It’s sad to say, but many churches have lost their way and are guilty of this.
#6 – Thou shall not murder.
The Unabomber had Al Gore’s book in his shack too. Big deal.
In #19 Mister Mustard said: “He was some fucking loser (probably an Atheist) who hated the Unitarians enough to start shooting them.”
Speaking of ‘verbal diarrhea’, here’s a few facts from various articles for you to wipe the skid marks from your chin.
“Police don’t know exactly why Jim D. Adkisson opened fire in the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church on Sunday. Some say that he was against Christianity after his parents forced it upon him in his childhood.”
“Investigators described Adkisson as a former member of an Army airborne unit who trained as a mechanical engineer and had held jobs across the country. He had apparently been out of work since 2006, and believed liberals were taking jobs he should have”
Not all liberals are atheists, and not all atheists are liberals. Only an idiot confuses the two.
#19 “He was not a member of the church. He was some fucking loser (probably an Atheist) who hated the Unitarians enough to start shooting them.”
I believe he was a former member. I think his wife still attended there. Not sure of the latter.
one of the other stories noted that the shooter’s food stamps were about to run out. How ironic, thought I, if it wasn’t for liberals he would not have had any goddamn food stamps in the first place.
gays and liberals took all the jobs? ya wonder what field this guy was looking in.
#13. the point of some posters (the so called hacks) is to post reflexive partisan wanks.
as you yourself just did …
#19 – Ayatollah Mustardi – He was some fucking loser (probably an Atheist) who hated the Unitarians enough to start shooting them.
From knoxnews.com:
Seems to be a common reason for church shootings.

>>I believe he was a former member. I think

>>the latter.
I have no idea where you got that silly notion. This story has been covered by every fucking paper in the nation, and no where did I see any mention that he was a member, or that his wife was a member.
And if he hated liberals and homosexuals, the UUC is about the worst church he could have ever picked. They accept everyone; liberal, homosexual, whatever.
I call bullshit.
I live in Knoxville.
Everyone here should note that the Unitarian Universalism Church is not really a church. There is no one thing you have to believe and many people who attend are agnostic, humanist and even atheist. The church has had recent publicity about it’s liberal stance on gays.
Adkisson is a conservative and was raised xtian. He was frustrated by his inability to get a job and thought it was the gays and liberals fault. I don’t think religion was the motivation here.
I’m so disappointed with the comments here recently.
I think you are all fucking idiots and I don’t like you anymore.
I’m going away for a while.
See ya fuckers.

From your link, it’s quite evident that the murderer was an angry Atheist.
“We were talking one day when my daughter graduated from Bible college, and I told him I was a Christian, then he almost turned angry.
“He seemed to get angry at that.”
Scary motherfucker. It’s amazing what the hatred of people of faith can lead these lunatic non-believers to do.
Very scary.
#27 “And if he hated liberals and homosexuals, the UUC is about the worst church he could have ever picked. They accept everyone; liberal, homosexual, whatever.”
I heard the church member thing on the radio. It was noisy in traffic so…
But, if he did it because he hates libs & homo’s wouldn’t it make sense to go after this “church”, because of its leanings?
#28 – Jules
>>Everyone here should note that the Unitarian
>>Universalism Church is not really a church.
FIrst off, you might want to get the name of the church righ, otherwise you look like a fucking idiot.
Secondly, it most assuredly IS a church. It may not preach the hellfire and damnation that the meth-and-man-ass/ wide stancers like so much, but it certainly is a church. And if you don’t know that, you’re a fucking idiot and I don’t like you any more.
Thirdly, when the guy became a Christian-hating assassin (presumably atheist) is when he picked up the 12 gauge and started blowing people away with double-ought buckshot.
Coincidence? I think not!
#29 – Ayatollah Mustardi
It didn’t say what he actually believed in. What you’re concentrating on is the effect… what was the cause? All those years of indoctrination fucked him up real good.
