Either he said it or he didn’t, why is Sky News saying he did? My guess is they got it from this excerpt:

Obama said:

“…I come to Berlin as so many of my countrymen have come before. Tonight, I speak to you not as a candidate for President, but as a citizen – a proud citizen of the United States, and a fellow citizen of the world.”

  1. Eric says:

They’re saying it because Sky News and Fox News are both owned by Newscorp. Draw your own conclusions as to what that means.

  2. RTaylor says:

Of course he’s popular in Western Europe. After 8 years with GWB they would be thrilled with a philodendron. Whoever thought up this neo-Camelot approach was a genius.

  3. MikeN says:

There wasn’t that much applause when he called for Germany to send some troops to Afghanistan.

  4. thirteen says:

The more exposure the word gets in their media the more likely people become conditioned to the use of the term.

  5. Stu says:

Please – keep your eyes on the real issues instead of bulls–t smokescreens.

  6. Dr Dodd says:

Obama’s admission that he is a citizen of the world is important, but even a more telling indicator comes from his many references to tearing down walls.

He speaks of physical walls, but also uses the word wall as an euphemism for borders. When you strip away borders you remove a countries ability for self-rule and autonomy.

His wish will not happen overnight, but once this begins it can only lead to opening the door for the eventual position of a one-world ruler.

  7. edwinrogers says:

I for one, welcome our new Obamanaut overlord.

  8. joaoPT says:

Probably you American folks just don’t get it on the news, but Obama is having a reception here in Europe as he’s the next President of the US. (heck, if the EU manages to ever create the job, he can be President of the EU, just by judging the popularity.)
200.000 people in his Berlin speech? Man, it’s epic!

  9. user999 says:

Wow! I agree with MikeN! I must have gone crazy!

Still, a few troops to help out the Canadians, in heavy combat with the Taliban (other than accidentally bombing and killing them from above) might help in ‘The War Against Terror’.

Wait a minute! According to John C. Dvorak, the Canadians are the fucking Terrorists! Now what do we do?

The free live concert and alcohol didn’t hurt in getting people to come out in mass. Just another oversight in reporting by much of our biased media. To hear some of the reports you would think that it was all Obama.

With that kind of enticement Stalin could have attracted those numbers.

  12. edwinrogers says:

Overlooked news item? Condoleezza Rice today began a two day tour of New Zealand, just as the most intense tropical storm in ten years hits the island.

Why is he campaigning in Germany? Does he expect them to vote or give campaign contributions?

  14. Sir Doucheington says:

#14: It’s more interesting/newsworthy than watching McSurge take his Medimucil and yammer on about his days in the Taft administration.

  15. Paddy-O says:

    #15 “It’s more interesting/newsworthy”

    Newsworthy? How?

  16. WmDE says:

#14 – Germany is one of the 57 states.

  17. Rick says:

It is just a lame smear. The airwaves are full of them all the way around. The reality is more captured in how yesterday’s Berlin speech went down with the various kinds of people. I watched as our flags were waved in celebration for one of the first times in my adult life. I was reminded of the way my parents used to talk about how the world viewed the US. How we were leaders and admired and the envy of so many. Most of my life I’ve known us to be generally disliked or resented. Our flag is on fire most of the time another national is waving it.

But then the news agencies get back to the US and ask Mr. ‘merikun what he thinks that such a big turn-out would react this way. That kind man replies that he “doesn’t care what they think of us” because “if they don’t like what we do we’ll put a boot in their ass”…capturing exactly what the problem is.

I’m all for, ahem, “putting a boot in their ass” if it ever comes to a conflict of any real merit. But, in my life the boots come into play when we simply want more than our share or want everything OUR way, without question. It is no wonder no one wants to play with us, and some want to get together and teach us what for.

It sure would be nice to explain to my kids why I call myself a patriot. Right now they are way too smart not to see how insane that really is given what we do as opposed to what we think we are saying.

  18. deowll says:

    Yawn.

  19. Come on. It’s Sky News. Does anybody really give a fuck?

I’m more interested in the fate of Batboy.

  20. Mr. Fusion says:

Meanwhile, McCain addressed 14 seniors who took time out from their bingo game to hear him speak. McCain reminded his audience of how he too doesn’t know how to use a computer or touch tone phone.

The game quickly resumed with the three players still awake after McCain left.

Are you joining the 911/truth group too?

  22. Brian says:

They’re saying it because the wealthy whites in charge of the media will do anything to defame a black man running for president who might threaten to encroach on their money and power.

  23. Jess Hurchist says:

#14 “Why is he campaigning in Germany? Does he expect them to vote or give campaign contributions?”

Maybe he thinks we Europeans need to be on the same side as the USA after your election.
Personally I think he looks like a major improvement.

  24. BigCarbonFoot says:

Obama is the real Nicolae Carpathia, it’s that simple. There has to be a supernatural force at work – nothing else explains how people could actually be inspired by the nonsense he spews.

  25. Smartalix says:

It’s amusing to see the Obama haters shuck and jive in their disingenuous machinations. They have no real criticism so they live for this straw-man bullshit. They are a bunch of pathetic mouth-breathing losers who can’t make a coherent argument once they run out of labels and red herrings.

  26. Dr Dodd says:

9/11 has come and gone. We spend way too much time honoring failure while forgetting to glorify victory.

There is no sense living in the past when the future is where the real danger lies.

  27. Paddy-O says:

#24 “Maybe he thinks we Europeans need to be on the same side as the USA after your election.
Personally I think he looks like a major improvement.”

Same side of what? He asked Germany to commit more troops. He just helped pass a law that allows the US gov’t to spy on you & I. Amazing how some people’s brains shift into neutral when this guy opens his mouth.

  28. MikeN says:

Those are details PaddyO. The real meat of his speech was in agreeing with whatever Europe wants. No wonder he’s so popular.

Smartalix, see the thread on product placement, and you’ll see the nonsense in Obama’s speech(comment 20 I think). Anyone care to post it here?

  29. web says:

    With apologies to Scott Adams.

    He’s the ONE!
    He glows!

I think it might be time to change your name to Senile Mike. You make no sense. Let’s look at #20 from Product Placement.

Alix made a pertinent comment. You, and the rest of the anti-Obama attackers lack any substance. Some of your members scoff at the size of the crowds Obama can gather. While your hero, McCain, proudly trumpets Bush and belittles Obama to massive crowds of a few hundred senior citizens, Obama is attracting tens of thousands of enthusiastic supporters.

    Get over it.
