Few Americans are familiar with Mark Steyn, the conservative writer out of Canada who has a huge International audience. This year he was indicted by the British Columbia Human Rights Commission for what is broadly charged as a hate speech crime for Steyn’s mild condemnation of Islamism in an article that appeared in Macleans Magazine. (It was actually an excerpt from his book). As far as I know, this is an attempt to put the magazine out of business and has yet to be resolved. There is almost no coverage of this in the American press. A search of the Google News site brings up almost nothing, except in Canada.
I found some videos that outline this deplorable situation. All this proves to me is what I’ve said all along, we should consider Canada to be a terrorist state for harboring terrorists. This whole Human Rights Commission thing up there is a form of terrorism itself.

Completely. He is such a Christopher Hitchens wannabee. I think calling Muslims “sheep shaggers” finally got things rolling with the CIC.
The irony here is that the CIC is the most politically correct bunch of wimps you’d ever come across. Watching that interview with Mike Duffy really cracks me up. CIC members wielding weapons? No way – it might damage the ozone layer. Crazy bunch of loons like Jim Keegstra and will probably get the same treatment soon.
This is such a truly Canadian fight since they are using various Human Rights Commissions; all you need now is a Royal Commission and the Not Withstanding Clause to make it complete. The CIC is truly being assimilated into Canadian society.

Its been over 10 years since I lived in Canada. I didn’t know Keegstra was still in the news.
Any prediction on the final outcome?
His trial wrapped up in the 90’s and the ruling was eventually upheld by the Supreme Court. It sets a precedent for all holocaust anti-Semitic types like the CIC. If someone wanted to sue them it would be easy pickings because of the Keegstra ruling.
His lawyer, Doug Christie, is still in the news from time to time on free speech issues, western separatism, and various extremist skin head type cases.
