Newsmax.com – Obama’s Inexperience Tough to Ignore I won’t run these sorts of stories if someone can show me something Obama has actually done. This sort of thing is not going away anytime soon.

If Obama had virtually no impact as either a community organizer or as a lawyer, he was even more invisible in the state Senate and later in the U.S. Senate.

In both bodies, Obama had a reputation for voting “present,” thus avoiding controversial decisions that could be used against him later. In the U.S. Senate, he has missed more than one in five votes.

Only one of the measures Obama has sponsored as a U.S. senator was enacted: a bill to “promote relief, security, and democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.”

Contrary to Obama’s portrayal of himself as a unifier, on every bipartisan effort in the Senate to forge compromises on tough issues, Obama has been missing in action.

In sum, it would be difficult to imagine a more mediocre record. Most candidates for dog catcher have contributed more to society. Yet with the help of adoring reporters, Obama has managed to parlay extraordinary speaking and political skills into a presidential campaign built on sand.

The idea that America might entrust its security and future to someone who has never demonstrated an ability to get anything of significance done is scary.

This article is very lacking in information to support the premise. Obama has missed 1 in 5 votes…..whast is the average number of missed votes in Congress?

Our system is giving us two, and only two, choices for President. Let’s compare the two not just state unsupported charges against one of these Bozos.

Obama surely isn’t so stupid as to think Czechoslovakia still exists.

McCain again cites current events in ‘Czechoslovakia’
(CNN) – For the second time in two days, John McCain has referred to current events in “Czechoslovakia” – a country that officially ceased to exist in January of 1993.

Why are the media ignoring the fact that McCain is as confused as hell about about foreign affairs?

I am a Republican from Illinois.

Obama was raised up in one of the most corrupt political systems in the country, and I’m sure he has picked up alot of IOU’s during his meteoric rise to national prominance.

McCain is a dottering old liberal who will be lucky to make it to election day, let alone make it through 8 years in the Oval Office. That place is one hell of a pressure cooker with some very intense national and international issues right now to really crank up the heat.

I will prolly end up voting for McCain, but I sure aint happy about it. The primary system in this country sucks. Most of the time the contest is decided before the majority of people get a chance to vote. The Dems this year was just a fluke.

  5. MikeN says:

He also thought they spoke the same language in Iraq and Afghanistan.

No offense. But you probably shouldn’t be voting with that kind of political understanding.

Yeah, because that sort of line clearly indicates your willingness to have your mind changed about his record.

Interesting information about Newsmax (your source):

-> After the mysterious disappearance of Chandra Levy in 2001, contributor John LeBoutillier allegedly posted a speculative column on the site about the sex life of Representative Gary Condit, with whom Levy had an affair.

-> On May 26, 2000, Newsmax published an article claiming Hillary Clinton refused to meet with the Gold Star Mothers.[4] According to the Gold Star Mothers organization, this was false and “Senator Clinton greeted us graciously on Gold Star Mothers Sunday, 2005.

-> During the debate over the failed 2007 Immigration Bill, Newsmax popularized opposition to an alleged “North American Union,” a dystopian vision of a future America where “NAU citizens no longer spend dollars or salute Old Glory. They spend “ameros.”

-> On August 9, 2007, Newsmax freelance reporter, Jim Davis, reported that Barack Obama was in attendance on July 22, 2007 during a controversial sermon giving by Jeremiah A, Wright, Jr. at Trinity United Church of Christ in South Chicago, Obama’s place of worship. The claim that Obama was in attendance for this particular sermon was repeated by Newsmax as fact again on March 16, 2008. A July 22, 2007 speaking schedule for the National Council for La Raza in Miami, Florida shows Obama as a scheduled speaker for 1:30pm. Video confirms he attended the conference and spoke during his allotted time. New York Times op-ed author, William Kristol, who relied upon the erroneous NewsMax articles in an op-ed article in the New York Times on March 17, 2008, provided the following retraction and apology later in the day.

-> In a 15 June 2008 article titled “Prominent Democrats Back McCain”, Newsmax listed 30 people it said were “prominent democrats and independents”. The Huffington Post analyzed the list, wondering “Who would it be? Gore? Daschle? Byrd? John Glenn?” but found that what Newsmax meant by “prominent” was “one former congressman, three ex-mayors and former Palmyra, Maine Budget Committee Member Herb Bates.” The remaining person were even more minor, including a Commissioner of a county with a population of 895, a VFW Commander, and former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Philip Frye (West Virginia), a VCR repairman who garnered 1% of the vote. The Huffington Post later reported that “more than half of the 30 members have either obvious ties to the Republican Party or are regularly touted by GOP politicians as Democratic defectors,” concluding that “there’s little if any meaning” to the report and noting it as “political hyperbole.”

Their correspondents include David Limbaugh (Rush’s younger brother), the aforementioned Kessler, Republican activist Kenneth Timmerman (nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize to share with John Bolton), Christopher Ruddy (who accused Hillary Clinton of murdering Vince Foster) and came up in journalism under Richard Mellon Scaife, Pat Boone (yeah, him), former Republican congressman John LeBoutillier, Dr. Laura and, of course, Bill O’Reilly.

Why the hell are you reading this shit?

They say this because America desperately needs a leader like Lincoln to lead us out of the conservatives’ ruinous disaster.

A horrible mess that McCain just wants more of.

  14. Stephanie says:

Obama is going to win. That’s what I am placing my money on. And if he sucked so bad then why was I hearing about him as a great senator before he ever decided to run for president?

Unfortunately, stupidity runs rampant in this country regardless of what position someone is in life. People don’t think too hard about what they say before they say it and it seem as if politicians are especially hell-bent on acting as if they are authorities on subjects when they actually don’t know what they are talking about. Come to think of it, so do cops, teachers, news reporters, salespeople and just about anyone. Welcome to the age of misinformation.

    Time to unplug.

I would much rather trust our government to somebody who refused to vote for bad legislation than for someone, like McCain, who foolishly jumped on the Iraq bandwagon.

“I don’t have any insults or such to sling”
    Nor do I. Obama=Sharpton=community organizer.

That is a descriptive fact, if you take that as an “insult” that is your subjective view.

Mr. Obama by giving his Iraq cut and run speech when the #1 topic at this time in our country is ENERGY i.e. gasoline prices is truly amazing. Only the Far Left in this country wanted to hear that. WE ARE WINNING IN IRAQ MR. OBAMA. Just keep kissing up to the Far Left Mr. Obama. You will lose The Vast Middle America.

Yes change will come gradually but for the present time, we are a petroleum based economy. That is a fact. These high energy prices are affecting EVERY part of the economy; food, all goods, travel, spending, confidence and on and on. Does Obama really want to be President? Let him show leadership—he is a U.S. Senator, let him get this no drill congress off their butts and let’s start tapping our own petroleum resources and demonstrate to the world we ARE SERIOUS. ALLOW OFFSHORE DRILLING AND LET ALASKA HARVEST ANWAR…Boom, that would drop the price per barrel of oil overnight and keep it dropping. Now, we may never see gasoline under $2.00/gal but at least it would be on its way down and allow the consumer, private enterprise, and the market and non-governmental forces the gradual transition to alternate choices. Let the market work. We don’t need these congressmen running ANYTHING. Who was it that got the banking system screwed up by demanding that they demand home loans to people who can’t afford them? CONGRESS! Who is it that wants our President to beg Saudi Arabia and/or sue Saudi Arabia for increase production BUT will NOT ALLOW U.S. companies to drill? CONGRESS! Why is it that there has not been any new refineries built in this country for 25 years? CONGRESS’ RED TAPE….on and on.

It is so irresponsible of Obama and his party to treat Oil like tobacco.

    Open your eyes America!

  17. MikeN says:

John, you ask for something Obama’s done. He helped undo the immigration amnesty bill last year, even while voting for it. Your boy McCain thought this was something he should mention. Are you sure Obama’s the one who’s politically tone-deaf?

I was talking about Obama, not McCain. If you lay down with dogs, don’t be surprised to come up with fleas.

I believe that a candidate SHOULD be judged by the company he keeps – and yes, that does extend to who they choose to marry. If you consider that Obama came up through the same system, it taints him too.

  19. Rick Cain says:

Newsmax is famous for superimposing a picture Bill Clinton in front of the burning 9/11 towers and the news article attached to it in essence blamed him for it, even though Dubya was president for 8+ months.

I can get more accurate reporting from Weekly World News.

  20. Shubee says:

Can someone show me something Obama has actually done?

Yes. Senator Obama ran a very successful Democratic campaign. And Senator Obama also skillfully dismissed everyone that sympathizes with Ralph Nader and has slighted all the important issues that Ralph Nader stands for.

  21. The Warden says:

Guys, it’s WAY too early to tell who will win or not. Anything can happen as the election is a long ways away in the world of politics where a story or misstep can drastically change a race in a day.

Most people aren’t even paying attention now. They will open one eye during the conventions then close it and then will gradually reopen their eyes and pay attention towards the end of September or so. But as more objective people come to learn about Obama and the fact that he’s as scripted as they come (man is can only give a speech if it’s on a teleprompter), his allure will turn to skepticism about his ability to lead to which he has not shown he has.

And as many faults as McCain has, he’s a known entity.

  22. aartimus aardvark says:

    The Warden

yea, Lincoln was a trial lawyer. I thought they were supposed to be evil.

As far as Obama is concerned, he spent most of his time acting as a community activist, not a trial attorney.

Since you like Wikepedia, here’s what it says about Obama:

Obama directed Illinois Project Vote from April to October 1992, a voter registration drive with a staff of 10 and 700 volunteers that achieved its goal of registering 150,000 of 400,000 unregistered African Americans in the state, leading Crain’s Chicago Business to name Obama to its 1993 list of “40 under Forty” powers to be.[20][21]

Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for twelve years, as a Lecturer for four years (1992–1996), and as a Senior Lecturer for eight years (1996–2004).[22]

In 1993 Obama joined Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland, a 12-attorney law firm specializing in civil rights litigation and neighborhood economic development, where he was an associate for three years from 1993 to 1996, then of counsel from 1996 to 2004, with his law license becoming inactive in 2002.[10][23]

Obama was a founding member of the board of directors of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife, Michelle, became the founding executive director of Public Allies Chicago in early 1993.[10][24] He served on the board of directors of the Woods Fund of Chicago, which in 1985 had been the first foundation to fund Obama’s DCP, from 1993–2002, and served on the board of directors of The Joyce Foundation from 1994–2002.[10] Obama served on the board of directors of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge from 1995–2002, as founding president and chairman of the board of directors from 1995–1999.[10] He also served on the board of directors of the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the Center for Neighborhood Technology, and the Lugenia Burns Hope Center.[10]

That’s not exactly nothing, but it is certainly not the career of a trial lawyer. And given the assault our constitution has been under for the last 7+ years, his expertise in constitutional law isn’t a small thing.

But my main point is that a fat resume doesn’t make a great, or even good, president. If it were, Herbert Hoover would have been a much president than Franklin Roosevelt.

  23. I’m just sayin’….

  24. amodedoma says:

Experienced or inexperienced, let’s say for the sake of argument the president actually has power and can make some kind of impact on things (I don’t think so, but for the sake of argument)
We all know what an experienced politician is like. I’ve been watching these clowns since Nixon (very experienced). If what your looking for is status quo look for an ‘experienced’ politician. Self preservation’s in their blood or they’d’ve never made it. I’m not saying inexperienced is any better, but they do tend to think outside the box.

  25. Ivor Biggun says:

Frankly, my stomach is beginning to churn in a bad way about this election. It reminds me of 1992, where the current situation was distorted so badly and nothing that Bill Clinton said or did seemed to sink in to any of his voters. Obama can’t speak for diddly without a prompter and it’s clear to see that he’s making things up as he goes along when he’s interviewed and henceforth gives a markedly different answer virtually every time he is asked a similar question.

Fortunately, we survived Clinton, but I’m not so sure about Obama. Terrorists and other evil world leaders see policies like Obama’s as weakness and will take advantage quickly. I truly fear not just one, but numerous 9/11 style attacks once Obama takes office. I honestly do not believe that Obama can make good decisions under pressure, no matter who he surrounds himself with. Remember, the final decision is with the POTUS himself, not some student-council vote amongst his cabinet.

McCain may not have a good grip on domestic and environmental policy, but we can be assured he will hit back and hit back hard if we are threatened or attacked.

2008 will go down in history as the “battle of the duds”. The only way of saving the country from internal destruction is to vote Libertarian. But I don’t see enough of my fellow citizens being intelligent enough to do that.

  26. David says:

#55 – Agreed. The majority of Americans would consider voting for a viable third-party candidate, but you’re told it’s a waste of a vote. Would like to see more voters “waste” their vote on a third-party candidate than the other two…

  27. bwvandorn says:

John, if you want to vote for McCain that’s your business. Please don’t sully your blog with these lies. Will you be holding up the latest New Yorker cover as ‘proof’ of Obama’s real intentions?

  28. aartimus aardvark says:

#55 What was it that you didn’t like about the Clinton years? Was it the peace or the prosperity?

  29. Mister Mayonnaise says:

It was the repression of rich, creamy mayonnaise that made life unbearable under Herr KKKlinton.

  30. TomB says:

#55/56, When people tell me that voting Libertarian is a wasted vote, I just ask why they think that.

    The top two answers are:
    It’s a vote for Obama.
    It’s a vote for McCain.

Obviously they don’t know how votes are actually counted 🙂

Nearly everyone I talk to face to face seems to be voting “against” someone. None of them are voting “for” someone.

And the ones who honestly say they are voting “for” one of these candidates say they are doing so because they believe that person will win. People don’t like to back someone they think will lose because it affects their self-esteem. Most of these people can’t handle rejection in their everyday life. They have to have something to believe in.

So the establishment picks a couple of morons to keep the mob happy while they continue to loot our nation through low interest rates and preemptive wars.
