Seeking to be one of the world’s first to grab the new-generation iPhone, fanatical Apple fans around Asia are queuing up two days before its launch, undiscouraged by rain or freezing temperatures.
The July 11 launch will be the first chance for Asian consumers to own an iPhone, and related websites have been swamped with inquiries and early orders…
“The big appeal (of the iPhone) is that this is an Apple product,” said Hiroyuki Sano, a 24-year-old graduate student who early on Tuesday arrived in rainy Tokyo from Nagoya, 225 miles west of the capital, to be first in line.
“I’ve told my professor I was going to go buy an iPhone, and he gave me permission,” said Sano, wearing a T-shirt with an Apple logo. “He is an Apple-lover too, and he sent me off cheerfully…”
Tee hee. I know how much John loves stories about people who wait in line for anything.
I plan on hitting my local AT&T store a couple hours after they open. No lines and I’ll still get my phone. Ain’t no way I’m standing in line for a frickin’ phone. The only reason I’m getting the IPhone is that my other contract is up and this seems to be the funnest new phone out there. Even though it’s going to cost $80 a month, that’ll still me less than what I’m paying with my current plan.
They’re queuing outside the Vodafone store in Auckland, New Zealand. It’s dark, it’s winter with overnight below-freezing temperatures, a thick ice fog and they’re being harrassed by drunks.

It seems that apple could sell shit on a stick and they would still have a line of morans waiting outside a few days before it was released
Apple fanboys eh? Well, maybe the become one when they buy their first Apple product. I am very surprised that most iPhone users I have met don’t have Apple computer, some of them had owned an iPod previously, so maybe that counts as being a fanboy. Anyway, I think I’m going to get one after seeing my fanboy wife using one for 6 months, I’d better start converting her to Mac user…nah,
You have to admit the hair is pretty trick.
Anyone heard of undercover marketing (goes by many names)?
People buying this phone simply because it’s new and ‘exciting’ are driving the hyperconsumerism that’s ruining this country.
Instead of paying off credit card debt, millions of people instead will run another $200-$300+ up of credit card debt in a pathetic attempt to be relevant.
Paying for Data plans are for suckers!!!
I use my minutes to go online with EVDO speeds faster then any GSM 3G in USA! and I don’t pay by the byte either and Nights and Weekends are free too..
These people are sad souls.
wankers……..

True, what really amazes me is that despite the iPhone being completely useless in Japan (even a DoCoMo pikachu themed phone can do more than the iPhone itself) the suckers still buy it. It reminds me of how Motorola’s pink Razr flew off the shelves in Japan once Paris Hilton was seen carrying one.
There’s an Asia 2?
