Two schoolboys were allegedly disciplined after refusing to kneel down and “pray to Allah” during a religious education lesson.

A spokesman for Cheshire County Council said ‘Educating children in the beliefs of different faiths is part of Cheshire’s diversity curriculum’

It was claimed that the boys, from a year seven class of 11 and 12-year-olds, were given detention after refusing to take part in a practical demonstration of how Allah is worshipped.

Yesterday parents accused the school of breaching their human rights by forcing them to take part in the exercise.

One, Sharon Luinen, said: “This isn’t right, it’s taking things too far. I understand that they have to learn about other religions. I can live with that but it is taking it a step too far to be punished because they wouldn’t join in Muslim prayer.

“Making them pray to Allah, who isn’t who they worship, is wrong and what got me is that they were told they were being disrespectful.”

There are significant, simple differences between understanding diverse cultures and requiring young minds to practice all the silly devices human beings get up to – in the name of religion. Sounds like the school cares more for indoctrination rather than building understanding.

Thanks, K B

  1. That is one fucked-up country.

  2. doug says:

one wonders if they would make Muslim students drink wine in a demonstration of the Catholic sacraments …

  3. Esteban says:

They could also force Jews and Muslims to eat pork, or Hindus to eat beef, so that they “know what it’s like” to be part of a different religion.

  4. The Alfer says:

I applaud those two schoolboys, they at least have demonstrated that they can think for themselves and not be led like sheep.

  5. Esteban says:

Also, kudos to these young men for standing up to intolerance. If there’s one thing worth fighting for, it’s the right to keep other people from forcing their beliefs down your throat.

  6. green says:

peeps always take the bait on this crap.

Intolerance is not taking part in an educational experience because your family has indoctrinated intolerance into you.

If you dont want to partake here’s an F, now sit down and STFU so you dont ruin everyone elses day.

I think in the spirit of interdenominational understanding and educational experience, the Muslim kids should be circumcised to experience the nature of Judaism.

The slippery slope of multiculturalism is getting steeper.

  9. The Alfer says:

#7: Intolerance is not taking part in an educational experience…

So if I choose not to strap a bomb to my chest I get an “F”, get to sit in the corner and STFU. Sounds good to me.

  10. green says:

Correction…. morons take the bait on this crap.

    Have a nice day.

  11. SN says:

For all the Christians who are pushing prayer into US schools, this is exactly what you’ll end up with. Not simply prayer to your god, but prayers to appease every god.

  12. The Alfer says:

#11: Correction…. morons take the bait on this crap.

And you must be one of them because you keep posting here.

I’m not aware of any “Christians who are pushing prayer into US schools”.

Do you have a link for such an event, or is this just a requirement of dvorak dot org slash blog to get in a gratuitous slam against Christians?

    Hmm??

  14. n74jw says:

How about everyone wake up and leave faith, prayer and religion outside of schools? If parents want their children to be indoctrinated in some form of religious dogma, they can do it themselves.

  15. qsabe says:

Sounds OK to me. If we are going to force feed kids in our schools superstitions as educational experiances, then that ones as good as any.

  16. PeterR says:

#8: I think in the spirit of interdenominational understanding and educational experience, the Muslim kids should be circumcised to experience the nature of Judaism.

    All male Muslims are circumcised.

  17. lou says:

Seems the kids are smarter than the teachers on this one.

  18. The Alfer says:

#17: All male Muslims are circumcised.

So exactly what makes you think we want to know about that Peter?

  19. #19 – What’s it all about?

Only when they have recited the Koran in its entirety. Many don’t make it.

  20. eyeofthetiger says:

Sadly this type of education is not surprising in England. Even the pubs are closing. Riyadh of Europe.

  21. ArianeB says:

Its not like they were expelled.

I believe it is good to learn about other religions, but I do not believe it is necessary to actually participate in ceremonies.

(On the other hand, if you do participate in religious ceremonies you will quickly discover how silly it all is.)

We do not know what actually happened here. If they politely declined to participate, and punished, the school is in the wrong, but if the boys made a big scene about not participating, then they were rightly punished for insubordination.

  22. No one should be forced to pray to any god under any mythology. This is some really nasty shit.

  23. B. Dog says:

Every English schoolboy knows that detention is bad, but Hell is worse.

  24. Patrick says:

#22 “but if the boys made a big scene about not participating, then they were rightly punished for insubordination.”

If it was my kid there would be no problem. The teacher wouldn’t be in any shape to EVER teach again. Problem solved.

  25. Mister Ketchup says:

I guess the kids should humor them and support their superstitions.

  26. JimD says:

This is why we need to MAINTAIN THE WALL OF SPEPARATION BETWEEN THE CHUCH (OR ANY RELIGIOUS “ESTABLISHMENT”) AND THE STATE !!! And in our Public Schools as well !!! In England, they have an “Established” Church and religious instruction in Government Schools is not even questioned, so when other Religions demand equal time, they have a hard time refusing !!! Our Founding Fathers saw that Religious Strive could be avoided if the Government’s power COULD NOT BE USED TO ***FORCE RELIGIOUS VIEWS OR TESTS*** on anyone, and left religous observances to the private individual and whatever religous establishment he chose !!!

  27. raster says:

Oh, My, God – detention! Oh, the humanity!

Perhaps this was an exercise so they can see the training that sometimes makes these advocates into fanatical nut-jobs? no?

  28. Esteban says:

#7, Of course I’m going to “take the bait on this crap”. That’s the whole idea of this blog: to read an outrageous story and comment on it.

#17, All? Have you checked? 🙂

#28, There is also a separation of CAPS LOCK and rational arguments.
