The American broadcast industry is rocked, realigned and blasted into a new orbit, yet again, by Rush Limbaugh, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

In what is being described as an unprecedented radio contract, Limbaugh will keep his syndicated show on-the-air and e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e through 2016 with CLEAR CHANNEL and PREMIERE RADIO. Already host of the most lucrative hours since radio’s inception, Limbaugh’s total package is valued north of $400 million, according to media insiders.

The NEW YORK TIMES will claim this weekend that Limbaugh, marking 20 years this summer as a national host, has secured a 9-figure signing bonus for the new deal, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE. [The cover photo of the TIMES Sunday magazine depicts Limbaugh ‘dark and sinister’ in a theme of THE GODFATHER.] While newspapers and traditional broadcast media are experiencing declining revenues, Limbaugh’s golden microphone has turned diamond-laced:

Earnings now pace him ahead of the annual salaries for network news anchors: Katie Couric, Brian Williams, Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer — combined! The deal represents a stunning triumph over the establishment by an outsider who connected with and captured the spirit of the nation’s heartland.

Comparing Limbaugh to news anchors seems a bit unfair, since they’re different forms of propaganda. Well, at least we don’t have to watch him.

  1. Pmitchell says:

    Atta boy Rush

Congratulations on your deal and hopefully a bigger one with your next renewal

  2. Sying Flaucer says:

So Rush’s corporate fascism is better than Wall-E’s liberal fascism?

  3. smartalix says:

what a testament to the quality of discourse in this country.

  4. Patrick says:

“Comparing Limbaugh to news anchors seems a bit unfair, since they’re different forms of propaganda.”

Yes, it is. National TV gigs on the major networks pay more than radio. This fact just makes it even more of an accomplishment. Contrast this to the disastrous attempt to artificially create a competing lib radio n/w. When given the chance in a free mkt there was a clear winner. Democracy at work.

  5. jimb says:

And who says being a lying asshole doesn’t pay?

  6. mmathews says:

Next to Stephen Colbert, Rush Limbaugh is the best entertainment in media. I enjoy the outrageous proclamations and the mental workout required to ferret the convoluted logic informing those statements.

The man is a genius and darn funny. It is comedy, right?

  7. >>Just because there are no liberals worth
    >>listening to for three hours… much less three
    >>minutes…

Either that, or there are very few liberals who are brain-dead enough to sit there for three hours listening to some moron spoon-feed them propaganda in agreement with what they already think.

Limbaugh listeners aren’t exactly known for their intellectual prowess (ahem; trying to be polite here).

Dance, Jimmie, dance. You’re more mesmerizing than a Lava Lamp!

  8. Ian says:

Too bad Dvorak can’t monetize this blog!

  9. Dr Dodd says:

“Earnings now place Limbaugh ahead of the annual salaries for network news anchors: Katie Couric, Brian Williams, Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer — combined!”

These anchors or news readers are well paid to read a teleprompter whereas Limbaugh relies on his own intellect to get his point across.

Love him or hate him, but ya can’t deny that his talent exceeds all four anchors combined.

  10. >>Damn, you’re a dumb son of a bitch.

Getting a little pissy when your idol takes some hits, eh Jimmie?

    >>Limbaugh’s audience is no more intelligent or
    >>stupid than the left in general. To try to
    >>draw a difference here is pathetic.

Now THAT is pathetic, Jimmie. Any group that calls themselves “DittoHeads” has already revealed their IQ from the get-go. They’re usually the kind of people who would read World Net Daily or Jewish World Review, except they haven’t been able to obtain the GED, so they can’t read all them thar big words.

    Haw!

You took it on the chin on this one, Jimmie, you’re reeling, and you’re pissed! Good thing you can’t find me…..that 10 gauge shotgun in the back window of your pickup could do a lot of damage.

    Yee haw!

  11. McCullough says:

Yep James, I think Mustard struck a nerve…

  12. Personality says:

“the spirit of the nation’s heartland.” or spirit of the South?

  13. jbenson2 says:

jimb says: And who says being a lying asshole doesn’t pay?

Are you referring to Al Franken, Harry Reid, or Nancy Pelosi?

  14. JimD says:

Rash Limpdick ??? That Spouting Spigot of VERBAL DIARRHEA AND EXCREMENT IN BROADCASTING ??? Not even worth 400 CENTS !!! A complete waste of space and broadcating time !!!

Have you seen the little piggies
    Crawling in the dirt
And for all the little piggies
    Life is getting worse
Always having dirt to play around in.

Have you seen the bigger piggies
    In their starched white shirts
You will find the bigger piggies
    Stirring up the dirt
Always have clean shirts to play around in.

In their styes with all their backing
They don’t care what goes on around
In their eyes there’s something lacking
What they need’s a damn good whacking.

    SNORT, SNORT !!!

  15. Improbus says:

I used to listen to Rush back in the mid-90s back when I was driving an 18 wheeler for a living. There is a lot o time to fill when you are driving 10 hours a day and Rush would fill up 3 hours. I stopped listening to him right around the Monica Lewinski scandal broke. I used to think the Rush was a pretty sharp cookie but now he is just a parody of himself. Sort of like William Shatner hamming it up on Boston Legal.

  16. jbenson2 says:

Just like this blog, the other liberal blogs are going ballistic over this deal.

This contract puts a nail in the wacko-left comments that Rush has problems in attracting advertisers.

This mega deal confirms the power of the EIB Network.

  17. Madtownmoxie says:

I have no use for Limbaugh, just like I have no use the like of the Michael Moores of the world either.

They both sit there and spew and pontificate their extreme Right or Extreme Left bile and tripe.

It just amazes me how guilty they are of sins of omission, which are so incredibly transparent, and yet they all still reel in hordes of people that take it all as Gospel.

  18. Bill says:

I agree with you. I thought he was entertaining as well. I found him just before he syndicated. He had great skits, jingles and insight into what was happening on the political scene. But he sounds bitter to me. No more fun. Haven’t listened regularly in 5 or 6 years.

  19. Bill says:

Oh, by the way. I would rather see Limbaugh get this deal than some bozo that itches an inning and a half twice a week in Major League Baseball!

  20. Bill says:

itches????? I meant pitches. Freudian slip.

  21. apeguero says:

Keep on complaining about El Rushbo. He keeps laughing his big, fat ass (well, he’s not really fat anymore) all the way to the bank 🙂 Only thing I regret from Rush is the lack of parity soundtracks and his big push to subscription of his website. But you know what? If he can make then the more power to him. Congrats Maha-Rushi!

Too bad his Operation Chaos didn’t work is all I have to say. I might have voted for Hillary instead of this RINO called McCain. Now I guess I’ll have to write in Mickey Mouse for Pres come November.

  22. Madtownmoxie says:

#23 Bill said…itches????? I meant pitches. Freudian slip.

HA HA Works either way! 🙂

  23. Hmeyers says:

He has one of the most “listenable” voices possibly in the history of radio and I mean the sound of his voice.

He doesn’t come across as holier than thou and that is why he is so successful.

There could be “liberal” radio, if they ever found someone with a terrific voice who doesn’t sound condescending when making their point.

Are you %#$#&$^ Kidding me? You actually wrote that?

  25. apeguero says:

#27, the guy can sound full of himself at times but he has been in the business for quite a while now and many of the things he predicted before, like the runaway tax on smokers and the vilification of burgers, etc, have come true. One thing though, he takes many calls from leftists as well and he has always been fair to those callers from what I can recall.

People also need to understand, he’s not a news anchor or reporter. It’s all opinion radio, talk radio, meaning, his standards for reporting and talking about the news are not the same as the news reporters and anchors. Also, I think he may do more to help Barak and the Democrats take the White House than the DNC will ever do because the guy can’t stand McCain.

  26. GigG says:

If Howard Stern, worn out old sack of crap that he is, can get a $500mil 5 year contract out of a money losing sat radio system the Rush ought to be worth $400mil over 7 or 8 years.

  27. Improbus says:

I don’t understand why ANYONE listens to Howard Stern.

  28. eyeofthetiger says:

I think his last deal was for $350 million. They probably increased the price because it’s clear Obama is going to be the next president. I remember reading an article when his last contract was signed, that basically the stations the bought his show were actually loosing money during that time of day because the cost of the syndication was more than they could make on ad revenue. I believe this was before the march of to mars in fall 03.

  29. Angel H. Wong says:

    #30

Then you’re either a woman or a gay guy with a PHd.

  30. Angel H. Wong says:

People. HATE SELLS. That’s why Republican media is always solvent while liberal media struggles to float. The audience will always prefer to hear someone telling them they’re right than to hear that they’re wrong.
