Stephen “Doofus” Attard

Six teens inspired by the notoriously violent video game “Grand Theft Auto” were in court Thursday on robbery charges after a crime spree that began with a late-night mugging outside a New Hyde Park supermarket, police said. The Wednesday night robbery carried over into the early hours of Thursday morning as the teens paraded down the middle of a Garden City street armed with bats and a crowbar, the police said.

The 14, 15 and 16-year-old boys robbed a man of cash and property at around 11:30 p.m. as the victim left a Stop & Shop grocery store on Hillside and Stewart avenues in New Hyde Park, police said. They robbed one motorist and smashed a passing van with a bat, Nassau police said. “It was determined that they were emulating the character in that Grand Theft Auto game, going on a crime spree” using weapons and tactics inspired by the controversial video game, said Det. Sgt. Anthony Repalone, a Nassau police spokesman. The three were then joined by the other boys and, after arming themselves with bats and a crowbar, they walked down Stewart Avenue in Garden City blocking the road, police said. They robbed a female motorist of her cigarettes and hit a passing van with a bat, police said. The female victim notified police, who responded and arrested the teens.

We had “A Clockwork Orange” they have GTA. Now “Doofus” gets to spend some quality time with “Bubba”. Oh, and lose the Mohawk kid, you may last a little longer.

  1. chuck says:

Their only mistake was not using the rocket launcher when the police arrived.

  2. Unimatrix0 says:

Wish you morons would learn how to spell “moron”.

  3. Jägermeister says:

    …a crowbar…

Sure they didn’t try to emulate Redneck Rampage?

    #2 – Unibrow

    New to the Internet?

  4. Read says:

#2 See this in the urban dictionary and all will be revealed.

  5. McCullough says:

#3. Redneck Rampage- Ha I loved that game….Moon Pies and RC Cola..LOL!

  6. Say Kai Lee says:

Do you really have to call him “doofus” when his surname reads “a ‘tard”?

    Hee Hee!

    SKL

[I didn’t want to insult the mentally challenged- ed.]

  7. Noel says:

Aside from the cops assuming that they were emulating a video game, what evidence is there that they were make-believing Grad Theft Auto?

I think that is closer to a fohawk than a mohawk.

  8. Jägermeister says:

#5 – McCullough –Redneck Rampage- Ha I loved that game….Moon Pies and RC Cola.

    Let’s bring back some memories… 😉

  9. Mr. Gawd Almighty says:

That isn’t a Mohawk. He just heard Bubba roaring in his cell. Four corridors down.

  10. BubbaRay says:

The term “moran” (plural “morani”) was made official for this blog in this post, “Me Spel Gud!” on June 2, 2007:

  11. James Hill says:

Too bad they can’t kill people for non-death related offenses. Making an example of “Spike” there would be a good thing for society.

  12. Freyar says:

I’d like to see the evidence where the police claims they were mimicking GTA. Considering that GTA mimics reality wouldn’t that mean reality ought to be pinned for it?

  13. bobbo says:

There could be a pinned item on the left hand side Blogroll of DU recognized acronyms and terms for those not familiar with the Urban Dictionary or blogs but like to come out with strong opinions nonetheless.

  14. James Hill says:

#14 – Or a disclaimer that using such terms makes you look like a tool, and renders your opinion meaningless.

  15. McCullough says:

#15. Use of the word “tool” makes you look like an imbecile, and renders your comment inane.

    Hack

  16. Bubba says:

He shoor haz a perty mouth!

  17. Peter iNova says:

    Morans are iddyotic.

  18. Crazypants says:

Urban dictionary = ebonics, It’s spelled M-O-R-O-N, morons:-)

  19. BubbaRay says:

    #13, Jägermeister,

You are correct. Moran just seemed to catch on pretty well when the plural form was named.

  20. Shin says:

Wow. Teen boys terrorize neighborhood with bats and crowbars. Never heard of that happening before now. It must have been those so called “video games”. Something like this never happened before in the history of the world before this “video game” stuff. Oh, yes..and that “rock and roll” stuff too..and comics..don’t forget comics..and tv…and rap…and…

  21. GRtak says:

He should have stuck to the video games, they have a save and you can go back in time to fix your mistakes.

I don’t think the video games made him do it. I think he has terrible parents. Maybe Bubba will do a better job.

  22. toniann says:

hate to say this, but, these kids are not getting the love, attention and protection they need at home. i dont blame the video game, the boys may have mentioned the game to the police officers that arrested them, but, i dont blame the game…i blame the parents, society and just the whole ball of wax which accumlates and then explodes into a horrific moment where now these boys are angry, mad, dying for love and attention and taking it out on the innocent people around them. it is sad. these are young young boys, to knock a mans teeth out. someone help these boys and fast…if parents are working full time..QUIT your children need you. I feel for you the parents..you didnt want it to get this far, but it has and it is very sad. I will think of these boys and pray for them to get the help they need and deserve.

  23. Divided says:

I highly suspect someone fabricated the GTA element.

    – Could be reports simply to create a scene

    – Could be the kids to try to blame someone else

    – Could be the cops to paint a bad light on the game

The only similarity of what those kids did and what the characters from GTA do is that it was illegal. I don’t recall ever using a bat or crowbar in GTA4, the latest installment, although I wouldn’t be shocked to find one in there. Robbing stores and people of cash (and cigarettes) is not an element of the game. In the game the character steals cars (grand theft auto) and works for organized crime.

  24. James Hill says:

#16 – Your worship is noted. However, simply repeating what I said doesn’t help your argument.

You lose, and I win yet another thread.

  25. Barry Burton's ears says:

Connecting recently committed violent crimes to videogames makes good linkbait.

And yeah, there was no crowbar in GTA… Half-Life had a crowbar.
Anyway, let’s not make excuses for these scumbags.
If anything I’d say their fathers didn’t beat them enough.

  26. Mr. Fusion says:

There’s nothing wrong with being a moran. Is there James Hill?

  27. dont worry about it says:

steves an awesome person he just made a mistake so everone back off. if it has nothing to do with you then dont worry about it k?
