The reporter arrived at check-in just five minutes before the scheduled take off, shortly after the phone call announcing the bomb scare. When told he was too late to check in he said he had heard the plane was still not ready for take off, even though the airport officials had still not made any announcement of any delay.
Which alerted the officials to the fact that just maybe he was the clown who phoned in the bomb threat.
The man’s mobile phone was linked to the call and he was arrested and charged with causing an alarm and interrupting a public service.
Apparently, he didn’t understand Caller ID either.
What’s the problem? It wasn’t a real bomb, nobody got hurt, and nothing got damaged.
Have you flown lately? It’s already barely controlled chaos as it is. By delaying not just his flight, but probably many others, by two hours he probably made a lot of people miss connecting flights. I’m sure he cost the airport and the airlines money. Besides, could you imagine if people could just get away with this sort of thing? It wouldn’t just be an issue of costing the airports and airlines money, or the effect it would have on other passengers, but after a while bomb threats wouldn’t be taken seriously, that is, until a real bomb threat was ignored…

People here get these minor charges for opening their mouths at a peace rally. Seems kinda light to me, but in the US, you would have been charged as a terrorist and sent to Gitmo without due process or representation.

This is the type of jackass who ruins it for the rest of us by doing something stupid and force the creation of a new and restrictive law. It’s partly for these reasons that they enforce strict check-in times like this. This type of stuff just adds fuel to the justification for diminished passenger rights with the airlines.
On the flip-side, had he called anonymously (is that even possible today – payphones probably have cameras focused on them) and maybe been a little more discreet while trying to check in he may not have gotten caught.
Make him pay the costs incurred from this stupid little ploy.
I agree with sirfelix, can you imagine what would happen if this was in the US?
I don’t know if this is true anymore, but I remember that in Columbia, calling in bomb threats to airlines was common for Columbians running late for a flight. They were pretty notorious for it.
