My Way News

HONOLULU (AP) – The Marine Corps said Wednesday it was expelling one Marine and disciplining another for their roles in a video showing a Marine throwing a puppy off a cliff while on patrol in Iraq. The 17-second video posted on YouTube drew sharp condemnation from animal rights groups when it came to light in March. The clip shows two Marines joking before one hurls the puppy into a rocky gully. A yelping sound is heard as it flips through the air. “That’s mean. That’s mean, Motari,” an off-camera Marine is heard telling the Marine who tossed the black and white dog. The off-camera Marine snickered slightly afterward.

Lance Cpl. David Motari, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Kaneohe Bay, is “being processed for separation” from the Marine Corps, the Marine Corps said in a news release. He also received unspecified “non-judicial punishment.” The Marine Corps didn’t say what role Motari played in the clip. The video was viewed tens of thousands of times before YouTube took it down because of a violation of the site’s terms of use. The actions seen in the Internet video are contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine and will not be tolerated,” Marine Corps Base Hawaii said in a news release. “The vast majority of Marines conduct their duties with honor and compassion that makes American people proud.” The second Marine, Sgt. Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion, also received unspecified “non-judicial” punishment.

Call me a bleeding heart if you will, but I’m glad to see the Corps finally dealt with this idiot.

  2. OmegaMan says:

You think that is bad…what about all the psychos at the humane society…man they kill hundreds of dogs a day!

I guess the sin of neglect is easier to overlook than the sin of killing. As much as I am a bleeding heart liberal..we don’t hire puppy lovers to fight our wars…now do we?

  3. Mister Mustard says:

    >>no, the real issue is that if this was just a
    >>rat he’d thrown over the cliff, nobody would
    >>have even cared.

I hate to admit it, Oceanic Shyster, but you have a point.

  4. framitz says:

A court marshal and hard time in prison need to precede his discharge.

Sick bastards like this deserve hard time. And be sure to let all the other prisoners know why they’re locked up.

  5. hhopper says:

We don’t “censor” material on this site. If you HAVE to see the video, it’s here.

  6. Jägermeister says:

Get twelve of these assholes and make a real movie of The Dirty Dozen. Any suggestions for a suitable mission?

  7. McCullough says:

#27. So that constitutes an apology? I guess he snickered and smiled through that too. Sorry, not buying it.

  8. Noel says:

As much as I dislike puppies I think they may have gone just a teensy bit too far.

  9. bobbo says:

#35–hhopper==I would not pander to the vulgar. I don’t kill insects unless they are biting me. Live and let live which is why I think this Marine needs help before he wastes the rest of his life. McCullough posted everything needed to understand the issue. He displayed his own personal judgment/taste/values. Censorship would be to prevent others from posting the video as was done at #27.

My two cents. I’m sure you know this subject better than we do.

  11. becagle says:

Ok, I can figure out the kind of sick f**k that would do this, but I still wonder WHY he did it?

    Did he ever say why?

  12. becagle says:

I just check out the link to that guys webpage that #27 posted. He kind of explains why.

It’s a load of crap, he was feeling “creative” that day, his reasoning does not justify his actions.

  13. ECA says:

    41,
    NOT quite..
WHY in HELL would you record it and have it POSTED.
This is as bad as recording YOURSELF taking a PISS, and posting it, and wondering WHY it gets hit with an ADULT CONTENT label.

  14. Brownbomber2 says:

I think they should have busted both jarheads to private and made them serve out their enlistments before kicking them out of the Corps. Maybe if he had to walk point the next few times his platoon went on a mission he would have thought twice about his actions.

  15. Peter iNova says:

This just in: A growing list of YouTube videos has confirmed that at least thirty seven marines have asked buddies to videotape them throwing puppies, kittens, hamsters and bunnies off of cliffs, towers and roofs in the Baghdad area once this was understood to be a Pentagon-approved means of reducing endless deployment extensions.

One soldier was quoted as saying “If you want the Bush administration to live up to its promises, you’ve got to toss a few pups.”

The Bush administration could not be reached for comment.

  16. Mr. Gawd Almighty says:

If you people are so upset because he killed a “puppy”, why aren’t you even more upset because his whole freaking battalion is in Iraq killing PEOPLE ???

Get some perspective. No one knows the exact number of Iraqis killed since the invasion, but it is way more than ONE fucking “puppy”.

  17. andy says:

i hope this asshead wakes up in an unexplainable cold sweat for the rest of his awesome life.

obviously he and others who also murdered people will be much worse off.

We need to bring back the bonsai kittens.

“People kill snakes upon first sight, even when they pose absolutely no danger to them, and very few give it a moment of concern.”

I happen to like snakes. I don’t kill them. I don’t kill anything that isn’t a threat to me.

I believe that instead of focusing on how other people perceive the comparative worth of living things or what the relative worth of the victim is, the real issues to be addressed here are the action and the perpetrator of the action. The Marine in question is an asshole, plain and simple.

He took a life, regardless of it being rodent, canine, homo sapien, or reptile, that was in no way a threat to him, and tossed it off a cliff.

By the way, having an opinion or even being appalled doesn’t necessarily equate to a “tissy.”

  20. McCullough says:

#47. and #50. Well all right, I’ve got Satan and Gawd sparring on this topic.

  21. Satan says:

🙂 Just so you know, I’m right. Satan is always right. Yea! Satan!

  22. gregallen says:

One reason a country should never rush into war, like these Republicans did, is that there will ALWAYS be blowback. Always.

It isn’t just from the enemy. It comes from oru own guys.

When you give members of your own population a license to kill, maim and torture, some of them will go psycho.

    And then come home.

  23. Thor says:

Almost wish someone took these idiots and threw them off a cliff. It took the Corps damned long to deal with this though. That was disappointing. And as one above here state, the killer psychos start with animals… empathy an unknown state of mind. Note the name, probably not the last you heard about this jerk.

  24. Mr. Gawd Almighty says:

    #50, Satan,

I happen to like snakes. I don’t kill them. I don’t kill anything that isn’t a threat to me.

While that may be true, we have sent 150,000 plus people into Iraq equipped with weapons of mass destruction to overthrow a regime and take their oil. These men and women are trained NOT to be emotional about who they kill. That they also kill animals is neither surprising nor unexpected.

The perspective is human life is not immaterial. Yet so many posts here don’t seem to notice that value. They care to rain down all sorts of punishment upon this Marine for being what he was trained to be. A killer.

Was it wrong to take a “puppy’s” life? Sure, on some level. Is it wrong to value that puppy’s life more than a human’s? You bet it is. It is wrong to become inured to human death and tragedy? Defiantly !!!

“The bottles were filled with some chemical from their meals and tobasco sauce so it would blow up when opened and it would get in the eyes of the locals. It sounded like a common thing to do for all Marines.

If this is such a common Marine practice, why didn’t the Iraqi’s think to open the bottles slowly since normally pressurized soda bottles were thrown to them?

  26. Karen says:

How can someone do that to an innocent living thing? These marines call themselves Americans? I don’t want them defending me. Lets banish these digusting human beings to IRAN. Such Jerk offs!!!

  27. RMR says:

Someone should throw him off the cliff! This man should not be allowed freedom of any sort when he returns to the states. A small helpless puppy?? What a sick, sick individual. Let him stay in Iraq where he belongs as an ex-marine.

  28. trex says:

One less mongrel to worry about. So long, puppy.

My tendency to not kill things for shits and giggles isn’t based on emotion. It’s based on the fact that I am mentally stable. Also, don’t mistake my calling this soldier out as an asshole as being an emotional reaction. He’s just simply an asshole. Furthermore, I am not surprised by this soldier’s actions. I do, however, find it appalling on a level that has little to do with emotion. It is based on the fact that there is something fundamentally wrong with this person.

“The perspective is human life is not immaterial. Yet so many posts here don’t seem to notice that value. They care to rain down all sorts of punishment upon this Marine for being what he was trained to be. A killer.”

Nowhere in any of my posts do I specifically say, or even imply, that I hold animal (excluding the human animal) life higher than that of human life. This particular situation has nothing to do with choosing the life of the puppy over that of the soldier. Was this guy defending himself against the Great Puppy Serge of 2008? Did Bush declare a War on Puppies? Was the puppy hiding a dirty bomb in its ass? Come on, the puppy was not threatening the soldier’s life.

“Was it wrong to take a “puppy’s” life? Sure, on some level. Is it wrong to value that puppy’s life more than a human’s? You bet it is. It is wrong to become inured to human death and tragedy? Defiantly !!!”

Yes, it was wrong to take the puppy’s life. The puppy didn’t threaten him. Also, I don’t get how you think that the general consensus is that the puppy’s life is more important than a human life. Read this line carefully – there was no threat to human life at the paw of this puppy. It’s apples and oranges.

To clarify a little further: My problem with this soldier is on two main levels. 1) The puppy didn’t deserve to be tossed off a cliff. 2) This soldier will be, or maybe is, back home in the US. He’s a nut-job with military training and a mental instability. I’m sure the VA isn’t providing him much in the way of therapy. This nut-job is now free to kill pets, and maybe people, here in the US for shits and giggles. You’re so worried about human life? Worry about this jackass getting pissed off because someone stole his parking spot and then flipping out and assaulting, or even killing … wait for it…. Wait for it….. a human.
