HONOLULU (AP) – The Marine Corps said Wednesday it was expelling one Marine and disciplining another for their roles in a video showing a Marine throwing a puppy off a cliff while on patrol in Iraq. The 17-second video posted on YouTube drew sharp condemnation from animal rights groups when it came to light in March. The clip shows two Marines joking before one hurls the puppy into a rocky gully. A yelping sound is heard as it flips through the air. “That’s mean. That’s mean, Motari,” an off-camera Marine is heard telling the Marine who tossed the black and white dog. The off-camera Marine snickered slightly afterward.
Lance Cpl. David Motari, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Kaneohe Bay, is “being processed for separation” from the Marine Corps, the Marine Corps said in a news release. He also received unspecified “non-judicial punishment.” The Marine Corps didn’t say what role Motari played in the clip. The video was viewed tens of thousands of times before YouTube took it down because of a violation of the site’s terms of use. The actions seen in the Internet video are contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine and will not be tolerated,” Marine Corps Base Hawaii said in a news release. “The vast majority of Marines conduct their duties with honor and compassion that makes American people proud.” The second Marine, Sgt. Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion, also received unspecified “non-judicial” punishment.
Call me a bleeding heart if you will, but I’m glad to see the Corps finally dealt with this idiot.

I used to work with an ex Marine who had told me about how his unit would throw used pop bottles from the Hummer to people and kids that would come up to them looking for food. The bottles were filled with some chemical from their meals and tobasco sauce so it would blow up when opened and it would get in the eyes of the locals. It sounded like a common thing to do for all Marines.
I don’t think they are brainwashed… It is just because that is the type of people who join armed services, although there are exceptions.

And these guys are so surprised when one of the locals tosses a grenade into their Hummer for revenge or, their version of the same joke? The Marines probably need to remind their boys that you tend to get what you give.
#18–Sinn==cruelty to “others?” Can you further define “others?” I think in context it should mean other “people.” But the marine was cruel to a dog, not a person. So, you are saying you would have the same reaction if the marine shot a rat for fun?
So, what should “I” think of “others?” Here we have a young guy probably like any other who volunteered for duty to visit exotic places and got stuck in Iraq. How many tours? How many missions? How many dead?
I don’t care what else he is, he most likely became what he is while on and because of military duty. Your like minded solution is to have him tortured and killed–albeit by surrogates. Why not show him the kindness you pose for by getting him the help he needs?
My hope is the media writes about this every year for the next 5 years including his current address and that of his employer.

People kill snakes upon first sight, even when they pose absolutely no danger to them, and very few give it a moment of concern. Yet we see a cute little puppy killed and we become outraged. Give me a break. If you are going to work yourself up into a tissy, at least be consistent. As I said already, would we even be talking about this if it had been a rat he threw over the cliff? I think we can all accurately guess the answer.

He deserves a taste his own medicine in order for him to gain a simple understanding of what he has meted out…he’d certainly heal which is way the hell more than can be said of what he did to a defenseless animal.
THEN, and only then, should he get psychological treatment…and probable confinement.

I was under the assumption that the puppy was already dead. I’ve seen the video last year and don’t recall hearing the little dog make any noises. It was limp and didn’t move at all (on it’s own).
Plus there wasn’t any word if the dog was killed by this. Even if the dog was already dead that makes the story even more sick since he’s playing with dead puppies.
Dead puppies aren’t much fun, unless you’re Lance Cpl. David Motari.
