Rep. Kucinich introduces Bush impeachment resolution – washingtonpost.com
WASHINGTON — Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a former Democratic presidential contender, said Monday he wants the House to consider a resolution to impeach President Bush. Speaker Nancy Pelosi consistently has said impeachment was “off the table.”
Kucinich, D-Ohio, read his proposed impeachment language in a floor speech. He contended Bush deceived the nation and violated his oath of office in leading the country into the Iraq war. Kucinich introduced a resolution last year to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. That resolution was killed, but only after Republicans initially voted in favor of taking up the measure to force a debate. Kucinich won 50 percent of the vote in a five-way House Democratic primary in March, beating back critics who said he ignored business at home to travel the country in his quest to be president.
Our tolerance for corruption has certainly changed since Nixon’s, and then Clinton’s Presidency. Or, do you think back room deals were made?
Great picture.
Impeachment now is almost an insult after he has been allowed to run amok with impunity, but it’s got to happen. There must be accountability for the actions of the presidency and not only should George W. Bush be impeached but he should be tried for high treason as co-conspirator of the events of September 11, 2001 and tried as a war criminal!
This is a mistake that the democrats and the U.S. will rue for a long time to come. Proceedings should have begun a long time ago and everyone in the admin who had a connection with the deliberate lies leading up to the Iraq War should be impeached or criminally prosecuted if at all legally possible.
By not impeaching we are sending a notice to the world that we know they are corrupt but we don’t care. We are telling the world that we live in a double standard where we can do what we want yet tell everyone else to do something different. This non-impeachment further erodes our good will in the world, if indeed, we have any good will left.
What the heck is she waiting for? Until she gets paid extra money for pursuing it? And as far as holding to some bargain with the Repugs, there’s no point since they haven’t held to any bargains with the Dems anyway. Something is fishy. I think someone should follow the money on this issue.
Ok I think you’re reaching a bit (a bit??? try a lot) and the no blood for oil is complete Bovine Scatology as long as I see cars on the road.
However…Its not surprising to see Impeachment brought up like this, since even Republicans (and I’m one of them) would wish he’d sit down and shut up till his term is over.
So who died and made her God? Lady Douchebag needs to remember that we “the people” put her in office, and we can take her out.
Go, Dennis !!! I too, like the picture (Photoshopped though it is), now let’s send Bush off to the Hague for WAR CRIMES TRAILS – AND CHENEY TOO !!! As for Pelosi, “Off” with her head !!! What happened to Sheehan’s challenge to Pelosi ? …
Cheney too! His popularity has dropped so low that now he’s only liked by family and friends and even those are questionable.
Come on folks. The senate had access to the same information as Bush, and overwelmingly voted for war. If there is someone who should be prosecuted, it is those who provided the false intelegence, not the president who was acting in good faith on the facts as he knew them.
We know that Iraq had WMDs when they gassed the Kurds, and we still don’t know what happened to those WMDs.
Well, Bush and Cheney should have been brought up on impeachment charges long ago, removed from office, hanged for high treason (whatever that is in a democracy), and have their heads tour the country on pikes. It is the moral thing to do.
But, Congress has a lot of much more important things to accomplish. If they would get busy with fixing the mess, that would be a much better use of their time and resources.
But I bet they will do neither.
Which is why we so desperately need change.
#6, Ketchup;
Cheney too! His popularity has dropped so low that now he’s only liked by family and friends…
At least those who he hasn’t shot!

The senate had access to the same information? Well… that’s arguable, but even if we concede that point, the difference is, the Senate was GIVEN the same information that the administration FABRICATED. I don’t think there’s any doubt left on that issue at this point in time.
Yet, I think impeachment is probably a complete waste of time. (UNLESS he proceeds with a unilateral attack on Iran, which is still a possibility at this point. The Israelis must be having a cow and are certainly trying to push as much of their agendy through while they still have a lackey in the white house.)
You are assuming that the administration fabricated that information. I suspect that the information was fed to the administration.
None of us will ever know for sure.
You guys got played for fools. Now Obama will do it again.
Why do you give a pass to all the anti-war Dems that voted for war for political reasons?

Ask all you want. There will be NO change.
We have needed change since the 20’s and still do not have it. Why on earth would it change now?

Christ, are you as dumb as you seem, Les? The senate didn’t “overwhelmingly vote for war”, they didn’t even vote for war in a lukewarm fashion.
They voted to give the Chimperor-in-Chief the authority to take military action if conditions warranted it (e.g., WMDs were found, etc.).
The worst you can accuse the senate of is being gullible enough to think that Dumbya had a fucking brain in his head or was responsible enough to keep American kids out of harm’s way unless it was absolutely necessary.
Five years later, EVERYBODY knows what a douche bag the Chimp is and his complete lack of any sort of moral or ethical compass. Five years ago, some people actually thought he would take his position as POTUS with some kind of dignity and responsibility.
That dream is gone.
Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan is scheduled to testify before Congress next weke to answer questions.
Firstly, I am certain he will ‘commit suicide’ before then. Surely if President Bush has any say in the matter.
Secondly, if he is NOT forced to ‘commit suicide’ by then, he will confirm what many have already known, that our President is a genocidal maniac, who led us into war based on false pretenses, and as a result we have 4,000+ war dead, and thousands of wounded.
President Bush is a MURDERER. Thanks to his lies, our soldiers are still dying in Iraq.
President Bush is solely responsible for their deaths.
It is against the Uniform Code Of Military Justice to knowingly cause the deaths of US soldiers without just cause. As President Bush is Commander-In-Chief of our armed forces, and as he knowingly sent 4,000 + (and counting) men and women to their deaths, he needs to be arrested and tried for treason, murder, conspiracy, and numerous other crimes.
He is a traitor. Period.
Anyone who says he is not is either stupid, a traitor, or a communist also.

It’s obvious that your opinion is based more on a hatred for Bush than from any rational or truthful facts. Your vacuous intellect is not a total loss though because you give the rest of us a good idea of how the term, “blind hatred” came about.
There weren’t too many Democratic politicians complaining when the war started that this wasn’t what they voted for. They chose to go with the polling, all the way until later in the year when Howard Dean made his charge.
Mustard, what is your reference for a moral compass, Clinton?
Have you noticed that there have been no more terrorist attacks on our soil. I think the strategy is working. The surge worked in Iraq, and we have been safe at home.
It bothers me that Iraq seems to be the focus here. Whatever we may believe, theres no proof I’m aware of that Bush and Co knowingly fabricated evidence. Suspicion, sure, but nothing concrete. As long as he can claim “I acted on bad intel,” he will continue to do so and be safe from impeachment. Thats not even the point.
He did however authorize a campaign of warrantless wiretaps in violation of both FISA and the Constitution. This is verifiable, he has admitted it and claimed it to be legal. He’s held prisoners in US custody with no recourse for appeal. The crimes go on and on.
The presidents primary responsibility is to protect and defend the constitution of the US. He has at best failed at his job and at worst sought to knowingly violate the constitution.
Shouldn’t we be upset about this too?
“The presidents primary responsibility is to protect and defend the constitution of the US.”
I think if anyone is concerned about that, they should take a good look at executive orders. Clinton used them often to create laws. The purpose of these is for the President to direct those working under him. They seem to be instead used to create laws bypassing congress.
>>Mustard, what is your reference for a
>>moral compass, Clinton?
He sure had a fuck of a lot more accurate moral compass than the Chimperor.
>>Have you noticed that there have been no
>>more terrorist attacks on our soil.
On the other hand, before Dumbya stole the election, there had NEVER been a terrorist attack on our soil.
So I guess him stealing the office of President was responsible for 9/11.
Excellent point, thanks Les!
Killing Vince Foster was moral? Being impeached for perjury was moral? Screwing an intern in the oval office was moral?
” NEVER been a terrorist attack on our soil.”
The 1993 World Trade Center bombing didn’t happen?
And I still would like to see PROOF to support you claim of stealing the election.
Saddam was more worried about Iran than the US, and tried to bluff the world in regard to his weapons. He tried to make it appear that he was armed to the teeth.
The fact that it was discovered later that Saddam lied doesn’t absolve him of responsibility. Nor does it make the US guilty.
If your neighbor threatens to kill you, and leads you to believe to that he has the weapons and intent to do so, then he can’t bitch later when the police take him down that it was all just an empty threat and that getting the police involved was uncalled far.
Those that claim that that the fact that no weapons have been found means that Bush lied are delusional. It was Saddam who lied. Blame him.
However, I do hold Bush & Co responsible for what happened after Saddam was toppled. They failed to recognize that Iraq would become the proxy battle ground between Saudi funded Sunnies and Iran funded Shites. (did I spell those right?).
Iraq should have either been dissolved into 3 nations. Or they should have locked the country down tight, closed borders, marshal law, until a replacement government was on its feet and able to defend itself.
#24,
good points! Excellent post!
But the question is, what do we do know. I don’t think it is ethical to just leave now. We created a lot of this mess, we should fix it.
Obama just wants to leave. That may be popular in the polls, but would be highly immoral IMHO.
Les, you’re an idiot.
Name calling works well in the absence of facts.

Impeach them all for constantly violating our rights:
They violate the 1st Amendment by opening mail, caging demonstrators and banning books like “America Deceived” from Amazon.
They violate the 2nd Amendment by confiscating guns during Katrina.
They violate the 4th Amendment by conducting warrant-less wiretaps.
They violate the 5th and 6th Amendment by suspending habeas corpus.
They violate the 8th Amendment by torturing.
They violate the entire Constitution by starting 2 illegal wars based on lies and on behalf of a foriegn gov’t.
Write in Dr. Ron Paul and save this great country.
There WILL be change, and soon. Russia has said many time over that they WILL use nukes preemptively to protect Iran and they have put the hardware in place to do it. Read and understand the book of Amos in the Bible. Then Ezekiel, Isaiah and Jeremiah.
Les,
Correct you are. And here is the absence of fact: “Killing Vince Foster was moral?”
