Houston Chronicle – May 27, 2008:

Bill Clinton gave a speech in South Dakota on Sunday in which he continued to promote the theory of a media conspiracy against Hillary, and suggested the Democratic Party should nominate his wife “unless we want to lose the election.” If that weren’t enough, Bill added that he has “never seen a candidate treated so disrespectfully just for running.”

First to the idea of a media conspiracy against Hillary. Would that be the same media that made Hillary the frontrunner before a single vote was cast? The same media that gave the Democratic Primary field the name Hillary and the Seven Dwarfs in the weeks and months before Obama’s upset win in Iowa? That media, Bill? The way I remember it, it was the Mainstream Media that had all but coronated Hillary Clinton since the day she announced her candidacy.

On the issue of R-E-S-P-E-C-T, I would contend that the Clintons received undeserved respect for too long in the days following Super Tuesday. Obviously, Hillary and her staff had no plan or strategy for that time. They assumed that the race would be over and they could turn their focus to the general election. And everybody knows the old saying about ASS-U-ME-D.

Hillary was not prepared for a long struggle and did not have the organization in place after Super Tuesday, causing her to lose 11 straight contests.

Yep, always hardest to look “at yourself” but that is where the most gold is.

    More like….People Conspiracy !!

That above photo would have been so great for a “Caption This”

  3. Jägermeister says:

Yeah, media made up that story about the snipers…

This is just sad. I was trying to come up with something funny, but pathetic kept popping up.

  5. bobbo says:

Chris Matthews just discussed this topic. The point was made we are missing the rise of the importance of the internet as in “youtube.” Hillary and Bill ((and the Chris Matthews panel and employers)) haven’t come to grips with this shift in who makes issues relevant.

Jag–good point along with the super waffle on driver’s licenses. As I seriously consider the issue, Hillary really is a poor politician. Wants to “fight” rather than reach consensus====?

  6. bobbo says:

Now I can’t get “pathetic” out of my mind either.

  7. zeph says:

Ahhh, the famous “Nixon strategy”. I love it.

Being a despicable liar probably had nothing to do with it…

Being caught in an outrageious lie may have had something to do with it.

  10. green says:

Well, rumour has it that Obama is being placed into power, eerily following Lincolns’ path to office. Vedic Astrology predicts that the 44th president ends up like Lincoln.

    All rumours though.

  11. ArianeB says:

Is Bill talking about the same media that made the American public think Hillary was still a contender months after she was mathematically eliminated on March 5th?

This weekend the DNC committee will decide what to do about Florida and Michigan. They will almost certainly decide to declare the january primaries invalid, as they should. Then they will grant Michigan and Florida honorary delegates either split 50-50, thus assuring an Obama victory, or they will go to the pledged delegate victor, thus assuring an Obama victory.

Obama only needs 49 delegates to reach 2025, and he will get at least 40 of those on June 3rd, the final day of the primaries. He then needs only 9 of the remaining 207 superdelegates to win.

  13. Mister Mustard says:

Fuck all this stuff. Let’s just welcome Obama as the new president, and stop with the National Enquirer nonsense, eh?

  14. gquaglia says:

Hillary and Bill have only themselves to blame. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hillary loses her Senate seat next time, if she runs.

  16. Dallas says:

The Republipukes have been very effective in sliming the Clinton’s over the last, nearly two decades.

I would also fault Bill for giving the R’pukes lots of opportunity for slime with Monica Lewinsky. Clearly, that was the greatest danger to our country. Now, Hillary suffers the consequences.

Nobody really knows why they dislike Hillary. It’s two decades of slime. In 10 years, it will be on Obama.

  17. andy says:

16, maybe balanced budgets and peace treaties are un-christian

“Gotta get in the White House, gotta get in, gotta get in”. Pant, pant, pant. “Gotta get in, gotta get in”.

  19. snoopyjy says:

I believe this was the day Hillary visted the class for the day. Apparently she is laughing at the child who did the math to figure out how she could win. It also appears she is the only one laughing at the answer while the little girl can’t believe how stupid she is for still being in the race.

  20. doug says:

Oh, you know how it is with the Clintons – its always somebody else’s fault.

As has already been pointed out, Hill had no plan for Super Tuesday and had no real organization in place to carry on her campaign in the remaining states. Remember how she did not even know about the hybrid caucus/primary in TX? This was all supposed to be a walkover.

You want to blame someone Bill and Hill? Look in the mirror.

  25. HMeyers says:

I’ve disliked the Hillary candidacy from day 1 because I found the idea that she was “entitled” to the presidency because she was Bill Clinton’s wife offensive.

That attitude in and of itself was deserving of disrespect.

And apparently, the Hillary campaign’s plan from the start was that the nomination process was supposed to be a coronation.

No one is “entitled” to the presidency of the United States.

  26. ichris2 says:

Hillary’s nervous smile betrays her fear of little black girls.

  27. andy says:

    23
how do you think she got into the senate? it was the pity vote.

  28. Greg Allen says:

    OK, not “conspiracy.”

But the media have clearly dog piled on Hillary and given McCain practically a free ride.

It’s what the chattering class does.

They did the same to Gore in 2000, hyping fake or overheated crap about him but letting Bush slide.

I’m especially disappointed in “progressive” talk radio, who has almost been worse than Fox, when it comes to Hillary. Ed Sholtz and Randi Rhodes are horrible.

BTW, I’m not a huge Hillary supporter. I was an Edwards guy and I just voted for Obama over Hillary.

But I know media bias when I see it and, clearly, they have it out for Hillary.

  29. RedpawGraphics says:

    I’m LOL’ing @ #19’s response so effing hard.

  30. NeverStop says:

Obama is a nice guy who if elected will be as ineffectual as Jimmy Carter was. However, he will not be elected because people are too bigoted to elect a black man with the middle name “Husein”.

This is the media that fails to remind people that like Hillary that Obama cannot reach the magic number of delegates either unless Clinton throws in the towel but why would she when she has won most of the important states necessary to win against McCain in November.

This is the media that chastises Clinton for her Bobby Kennedy assassination comments and yet fails to remind people that as a woman presidential candidate with high negatives she constantly lives in fear of being killed herself. The secret service won’t let her forget it. If anyone has the right to talk about this subject she does.

This is the media that went insane when Clinton exagerated the danger during her Bosnia trip but gave McCain a total pass during his last trip to Iraq where he claimed that he could now safely walk the market streets there since the “Surge”. In reality the area had been scrubbed extensively by the military for 24 hours before his fake walk through the Iraqi market and he wore body armour was surrounded by U.S. soldiers with a squadron of black hawk helicopters hovering above. Just search Youtube.

Hillary is hard to take but she’s our best chance for effective real change for the better given the competition.
