Challenged to rethink motorcycle transportation, Art Center College of Design student Jake Loniak decided the idea of a machine as an extension of the body should be taken literally. […] Loniak’s concept is an electric vertically parking motorcycle controlled by 36 pneumatic muscles with 2 linear actuators.

The Yamaha-branded Deus Ex concept is worn as an exo-skeleton with seven artificial vertebra as well as the pneumatically attached helmet. The motor is in-wheel, powered by ultra-capacitors and doped nano-phoshpate batteries similar to those already used in hybrids, and is capable of 0-60mph in 3 seconds. Top speed is 75mph with a recharge time of 15 minutes and cycle time of 1 hour.

Just imagine what would have to be changed to make that street-legal in the US. And besides, where would your biker babe (or two) sit?

Here is a graphic of how it’s suppose to function.
    Looks way too dangerous.

  2. Miguel Correia says:

If it is safe, green and relatively affordable, why not consider buying it?

  3. Uncle Dave says:

#2: Because we’ll never be given the chance. Too many safety issues to ever get approved.

I appreciate the environmentally sensitive bikinis on the models.

  7. Mac Guy says:

#5 – Nah, I don’t think he’d be able to play polo with that thing.

  8. James Hill says:

    The family’s looking great.

Besides looking more like a toy; this really can the effective machine to weed society of it’s idiots who have no basic common sense of mechanics or physics. The kind you learn from contact sports or outdoor motorized activities.

Don’t hit those front brakes to hard, you might flip.

Designed with a rear caster steering wheel, that has the turning axis behind it! Shopping carts don’t even do that. Ok, who is going to volunteer their life see if this is going to work at 60 mph when trying to make a slight turn?

High center of gravity, no problem.

One of the babes could sit on my face.

  11. hhopper says:

In order for that thing to be safe, it would have to be ride by wire… run by an onboard computer.

  12. Zybch says:

Strangely reminiscent of Mr Garrison’s (Southpark) ‘monowheel’ IT vehicle.

  13. bobbo says:

I really like the concept. Being articulated, if the rider was attached between front and back wheel in a scissor device, the height could be a variable of speed and it could work quite nicely.

Wish I had a shop I could build one it. – – etc.

  14. GetSmart says:

And you thought people looked like weenies on Vespas….

  15. the answer says:

trust me people on Vespas look 1000% cooler then that wacko thing. Hell vespa riders look better then most hog riders. Fake beards and chaps just don’t go over well anymore.

  16. anonymous says:

looks sweet. the rider leans more forward the faster you go so should be really stable.
