    C’est la vie

  2. Neal at IntoYourHead says:

This wouldn’t work. You need to “aeroplane” pieces to knock out a building.

  3. JimD says:

I am sure they could sell at least one – to bin laden or Bush/Cheney (War is SO PROFITABLE) !!!

  4. Thinker says:

Looks like a good way to get you put on a watch list! 🙂

  5. andy says:

i’m guessing a building 7 pawn goes down automatically when you capture a tower?

  6. Rabble Rouser says:

Uh, the only thing is that the White pieces should be the planes, and the black pieces should be the buildings, as traditionally, in chess, white is the attacker, and black, the defender.

  7. Tippis says:

#5 I’m guessing that OBL and the gang would use the same argument to why the setup shown is the correct one…

  8. jbellies says:

There are only two ways to position a chess board, either a light square is in the bottom right corner (the correct way, according to the Laws of Chess), or a dark square. Why is it that more than 50% of the, ah, artistic, chess set displays have the board set up incorrectly? I even saw this in a museum in Moscow, Russia (not Idaho), the Centre of the World of Chess.

Just so you don’t have to scroll up, yes, they’ve done it again! The terrorists have won.

  9. Sinn Fein says:

The nitwit “chess set” designer just bought his forever ticket for the U.S. “No Fly List” if not MANY other watch lists.

And, as a chess nerd observation, the damn board is set up wrong, white square on the right corner, ALWAYS. I hate these dumbass political posers who try to use chess to display their ignorance.

  10. Sea Lawyer says:

I’m just amused how many people act all shocked and disgusted by these sorts of things.

  11. meme says:

#8 it’s called ART you republican shitbag!

  12. OhForTheLoveOf says:

This is a brilliant chess set. This is a chess set that says what this nation needs to say:

    1. We are not afraid
    2. We are not afraid
    and
    3. We are not afraid

Of course, the set might be early. It looks like some of you might still be afraid. Oh well.

  13. Sinn Fein says:

#8 it’s called ART you republican shitbag!

Yeah, #11, I know your kind of art. Everyday I leave a prime example of it floating in the toilet, you liberal fascist ART phony!

  14. Steve-O says:

#11 meme – You mean like an upside down cross in a jar of urine ART or Goatse ART which is basically all the ART you are going to get from the fucked up ART community.

I actually think the chess set is funny which I believe was the intention. ART no, humor yes.

  15. bretticus says:

Great gift idea for the terrorist who has everything!

  16. OhForTheLoveOf says:

I won’t say you aren’t supposed to understand at… but it’s safe to say that most of you guys don’t understand art.

  17. Angel H. Wong says:

I find it more enjoyable to play M$ flight simulator 2000 and smack a 747 onto a building than playing chess.

  18. Pofoz says:

    Two things:

    1) Are the back row buildings modeled after real skyscrapers? Some of them look vaguely familiar.

2)”Click to embiggen” – Yay! a Simpsons reference!

  19. alexf says:

    I’ll admit, I LOL’d….

  20. Somebody_Else says:

I wouldn’t want to play with it, at least not as black. I would have a hard time remembering which pieces are which.

  21. Let’s be thankful that people still get energised about the important things. Like the fact that a chess-based eulogy of some terrorist planes and their targets, is positioned incorrectly according to the rules of chess.

  22. jbellies says:

    #23 Neal at IntoYourHead

    Energised? No.

Eulogy? It’s just a piece of art. No more a eulogy than Picasso’s Guernica is a eulogy of bombing. The fact that the artist chose to depict the airplanes as black (when in real life their colours are more likely to be white) and the buildings as white (when many of them would be black towers) makes me think that, possibly, it is an item of criticism, at least in Western thought, you know, Light versus Darkness = Good versus Evil?

Of course, board set up wrong could by part of the artist’s intention, part of the message. “The medium is…”

  23. Inconnux says:

    LoL

Shows that the ‘artist’ isnt bright enough to set up the board properly. The set did make me laugh though.

  24. gbmonte says:

did anyone mention that the board is set up wrong?
