Indian village proud after double honor killing | U.S. | Reuters — As India insists on entering the world stage, the country is going to have to gets its social structure together. This sort of scene is pathetic.

Five armed men burst into the small room and courtyard at dawn, just as 21-year-old, 22-week pregnant, Sunita was drying her face on a towel. They punched and kicked her stomach as she called out for her sleeping boyfriend “Jassa”, 22-year-old Jasbir Singh, witnesses said. When he woke, both were dragged into waiting cars, driven away and strangled.

Their bodies, half-stripped, were laid out on the dirt outside Sunita’s father’s house for all to see, a sign that the family’s “honor” had been restored by her cold-blooded murder. A week later, the village of Balla, just a couple of hours drive from India’s capital New Delhi, stands united behind the act, proud, defiant almost to a man.

What a bunch of cowards as they want/need to live in the prehistoric age. These scum should be convicted and have their pathetic lives taken away (each and every one of them), to the betterment of us all.

  2. Said says:

Hopefully the Pakistani’s will take care of them.

  3. bobbo says:

Well, the linked story is interesting. In short, the couple were high school sweethearts in a city that considers marriage within the village to be incest. Further, the chick left an arranged marriage to be with her boyfriend and they had a kid outside of being married. Plus, she was lower caste. Seems everyone but these two kiddies were upset by just about every aspect of the relationship.

Yes, a culture of family structure rather than individual licensciousness. Don’t we honor cultures other than our own?

  4. becagle says:

    22-weeks pregnant…

    Triple honor killing…

  5. rabid dog says:

I’m sure some good old fashioned religion is to blade for this.

    And #3…what are you smoking?

  6. Steve S says:

While clearly not representative of Indian culture as a whole, you really hate to hear about this type of horrible behavior from some backwards sect that lives in your country. Every country has something similar to one degree or another. Normally I don’t like the idea of interfering with other culture’s traditions and laws (look at the mess the U.S. gets into when it does). But in this case, I’m sorry. If your little group pulls this kind of crap on its own people, I feel I have the right to f**k with your group to prevent you from doing this again.

  7. eyeofthetiger says:

    Primitive people from primitive cultures.

  8. Improbus says:

Some people are descended from apes and some people are apes and some are worse than apes.

  9. bobbo says:

Its good to see there are ugly Indians to keep the ugly Americans company.

Now lets all “imagine” we are like 600 Million Indians who survive based on their village life==no help from the government or international support groups. You have rules that “everybody” agrees work to keep the village going.

Then some aid worker visits the one room high school and leaves a solar powered lap top behind. The kiddies learn how to use it and watch 90210 for one season and decide they have a right to live however they choose. Fuck the village.

I would treat them just like we treat people who violate our laws==drug users, abortionists and what not. The only thing amiss here is the village doesn’t have the resources to hire judges and juries to do it for them. You have to have more than barely enough to get by to be so civilized.

  10. chuck says:

bobbo, they could have simply expelled them from the village. they didn’t. they f*cking murdered them!!

It used to be a tradition in India that when a man died, his wife was burned to death. The British introduced a new tradition: they’d hang anyone who tried to burn a widow. The result: traditions change.

  11. bobbo says:

#10–chuck==why don’t we simply expell drug users from our cities?

You see, expulsion does not set the correct example to the other villagers.

Its all a social web and like any web, you as an outsider think you can snip here and there==easy since you don’t have to support the village when the cohesion falls apart.

Cultural snobbery to think we can just walk in and expect everyone should do it our way in an environment that is no where near like ours.

Nothing wrong at all with “the family” being the building block of society rather than “the individual.”

  12. chuck says:

bobbo – I don’t think it’s cultural snobbery to think that its unacceptable to murder 2 people because they got married.

  13. chuck says:

on the other hand, we should just invade their country and force them to convert to christianity. im sure that will solve all their problems.

  14. bobbo says:

#13–chuck!!! We know you don’t approve. I don’t approve. NONE OF US approve. But that village does.

Now as applies to all issues of morality, its not the morality of the choice that is really important, but rather the morality of “who gets to decide.”

Anyone who is not “ugly” will leave other cultures alone. Now, what would you actually DO after expressing your personal opinion????

  15. bobbo says:

#14–James==I find it more objectionable that this village probably lives with rats, snakes, cows, and dogs because “all life is sacred” then they turn around and murder humans for social purposes. Seems hypocritical in some way.

  16. pat says:

This type of incident just highlights the need to have a good immigration policy so we don’t import people from areas of the world that aren’t yet civilized.

  17. ERS says:

Chuck, I’m with you on this. People deserve to have some basic human rights. That is not cultural snobbery, but fair and reasonable and humane.

#19 – i agree, the weird head-shaking thing freaks me out too. i say, kill ’em all – let the FSM sort it out.

  19. Dallas says:

Disgusting. In our civilized country we throw our children out of the house to live on the streets if they dishonor the family.

    Murder is over the top.

  20. bobbo says:

#18–Ellen==only “some” basic human rights? Which are expendable?

I’m not too shocked that some people think murder should not be condoned.

Lets go closer to the line? How about arranged marriages? How does that rate on the umbrage meter?

  21. eblonk says:

#8 Improbus – Apes don’t do these things, humans are the only animals that come up with these things. Humans are in many respects the lowest, dishonest, self-congratulating lifeform. Find another animal that has these fine qualities.

  22. bobbo says:

#23–eblonk==you are falling behind in viewing the Discovery Channel. Seems homicide to establish hierarchy and organized hunting partys to establish liebstrom is common in chimps==our closests relatives. Don’t think other apes or monkeys do it near the same degree.

It indeed may be in our nature, all for our culture to overcome.

  23. Improbus says:

    @eblonk

What bobbo said. Google “when apes attack”.

  24. bobsyeruncle says:

I dunno. I think a lot of our social ills here in the states could be solved by whacking fucktards who rub taints together outside the family structure.

  25. eblonk says:

    #24 – #25
I stand corrected. So primates swing that way and it seems the closer they are to the most succesful primate (that would be us, from what I understand Linneaus had the insert some unscienctific U-turn to prevent humans being classified as primates, otherwise his work would have been disregarded), the more they are apt to cruelty for the sake of it.
As far as humans go, it remains to be seen if we are the fittest and indeed if we will survive.

  26. obbob says:

“Don’t we honor cultures other than our own?”

Yes, just not all of them. The fact that something is “cultural” does not bring it into line with basic standard of human rights.

Some of us happen to believe that certain rights are ours inherently, and are not granted by any cultural, political, or legal structure. No one gets to “decide”: a violation is immoral on its face.

Cultures or governments that do not respect this self-evident truth are not legitimate. No, bobbo, that doesn’t mean I’m going to go into the village, steal the women, rape the cattle, and convert the men to scientology. But it does mean that I consider their “culture” unacceptable.

Even if we do no more than say, “Tsk”, we must still take the time to say, “Tsk”.

And, yes, this is a “western”, “white”, “European” view of humanity. Even DU readers show be aware that some of us still cleave to those notions and will fight for their survival.

  27. MikeN says:

Someone should have done this to Woody Allen when he got married to his daughter.

  28. Improbus says:

    @MikeN

That should be stepdaughter. You wouldn’t want the world to think that Woody was a incestuous pedophile would you?

  29. Mister Mustard says:

    @improbus; @lyin’ MikeN

That was the ADOPTED daughter of his ex-wife. Thanks for recognizing this fact. Shit, it’s not like the guy’s a Republican or something.

  30. bobbo says:

#28–obbob==well we agree. I am as I implied also an ugly American. I find no cultural values other than my own as representing basic human rights.

Trick remains how you get others to agree without destroying them.
