I waited until someone re-posted the video on YouTube where it could actually be watched. It’s original posting site was swamped. This sort of protest is going to worsen.

  1. comhcinc says:

    Is Vista really that bad?

  2. David says:

Anyone have any idea what he was saying?

  3. stopher2475 says:

That egg guy is a jerk. I’m sick of europeans complaining about the ms monopoly when they have some of the worst offenders themselves. Look at the diamond cartel DeBeers. No one ever had a hand cut off over a copy of Windows.

  4. eyeofthetiger says:

#2 something about Linux and Zune capability.

  5. moss says:

The whole dungheap of anarchist so-called movements around the world are about the best thing to happen for reactionary politicians.

There is no attempt to connect to the overwhelming body of people actually affected by the individuals and organizations supposedly targeted by these effete creeps.

Nothing is ever achieved except selfish spoiled middle-class babies patting themselves on the back. They are about as capable of changing anything as the average grafitti tagger or gangbanger. And that change is negative.

  6. Ah_Yea says:

I have to give it to Balmer on this one. Although I don’t care for his management style and such, he did a good job of continuing on after this. It can be pretty unnerving to be in his situation.

I also can’t help but think that these kind of stunts help to create the Fortress Microsoft mindset I have heard so much about. I wonder if the guy throwing the eggs thinks that he is getting his point across to Balmer (whatever point he was trying to make, that is).

  7. Jägermeister says:

MS executives are getting spoiled… they all get free food.

#6 – Ah_Yea – I have to give it to Balmer on this one. Although I don’t care for his management style and such, he did a good job of continuing on after this.

The best one to handle attacks like this, must be Tom Cruise.

  8. Ah_Yea says:

Oh, I know! The guy throwing the eggs was just being helpful. By looking at Balmer, it’s pretty apparent that he usually scarfs a few Egg McMuffins every day or so, and he was just trying to help Balmer feel more at home!

  9. Thinker says:

ummm…no call for that. Now what ever point he wanted to make will be lost in the hubub.

  10. Petrov says:

Wouldn’t it have been cool if Ballmer jumped over the podium and pounded that little turd’s @$$!

…And *THIS* is what I think of your Hungarian notation!

  11. Petrov says:

    [Duplicate comment deleted. – ed.]

  12. Ah_Yea says:

#7, Jägermeister. A couple of good clips. I’m also not a huge fan of Tom Cruse, but he was certainly in the right on this one. I am also glad there were no couches in sight for him to jump on…

Watching these clips, it reminds me that there is a dangerous side to being a celebrity. I would hate living in fear, not knowing who could be waiting for me around the next corner with something that’s not a pie or an egg.

  13. larrinski says:

Steve Ballmer has a pretty good sense of humour! Too bad that Microsoft can’t change its ways. There are going to be more protests for sure!

  14. comhcinc says:

@#12 what exactly are those ways? I find it interesting that anyone can have enough of a problem with microsoft to protest. if you don’t like the way they do things then don’t use their product.

  15. apeguero says:

I’d really like to see Balmer do the “Down by the river” impression some day.

  16. Jägermeister says:

    #11 – Ah_Yea

I like him as an actor, but his views on life are a little bit screwed up.

And yes, I wouldn’t like to be a celebrity… just imagine if it was acid instead of water… 😛

  17. McCullough says:

Damn, don’t these people have Tasers?

  18. MikeN says:

Don’t you endorse this sort of thing John? Or is it only for people like Paul Wolfowitz?

  19. Miss_X2b says:

The “tosser” is saying something to the effect that Microsoft stole $45 million from the Hungarian people, give that money back.

What is that tosser talking about?

  20. comhcinc says:

    Windows ME maybe?

  21. Steve says:

What is wrong with these losers? Like #3 stated Microsoft is just a software company. There are far worse corporations on this planet that deserve our ire because they actually harm people. If Zune compatibility or a BSOD is such a huge issue to you, then you need to get a life. Who held a gun to anyone’s head and made them purchase a Microsoft product?

If anyone threw something at me like that little weasel I would’ve pummeled his ass and let him cry about Windows from a hospital bed. Unbelievable. I don’t even use Microsoft products but Ballmer isn’t the ogre that the sycophantic tech geeks paint him to be. And if you’re that wound-up about “bad business practices” then you’re being a disingenuous boob by ignoring a lot worse behavior by other corporate leaders.

There are about 3,927,583,738 issues in this world more important than whatever non-issue got stuck up this nutjob’s butt.

  22. Brett says:

Wow lot’s of neo-con M$ supporters on the dvorak blog as usual.

I welcome the egg attack on monkey boy Ballmer.

  23. amodedoma says:

Balmer is a proxy for Gates, but it’s obvious that Billgatus of Borg pulls the strings. He only rates eggs (better rotten), now if the Big B.G. would’ve showed, they’d’ve had pies. The animosity of the public is a result of MS’s marketing strategy, that is to eliminate or absorb all competition. They’re the victims of their own ‘success’. Now they look like the Nazis of the software biz.

  24. Brandon says:

I don’t especially care for Microsoft as a company, nor do I use their software, except in the rare instance that there is no other choice. But this is no way to have an open and public discourse, and I hope that the extremely rude young man from the video is punished accordingly.

  25. SN says:

“Damn, don’t these people have Tasers?”

Agreed, in the US he would have had his balls tasered off just for the shirt alone.

“Wow lot’s of neo-con M$ supporters on the dvorak blog as usual.”

I’m no neo-con or MS lover, but even I admit Ballmer won that battle.

  26. Brian says:

    22-

Like 25, I am by no means a neocon, nor a MS lover, but to think for a second that egging a company official is any sort of a reasonable response shows just how moronic you are.

If you want to protest, stop buying MS products, get everyone you know to stop buying them. Throwing eggs at someone is just childish and screams ‘look at me!’ without trying to change anything at all – probably the same attitude you have, except you don’t have the nuts to try it, do you?

  27. jlm says:

Um, do that over here and you get hit with a taser or shot…I should move to Hungary, they just let you walk out

    p.s. Vista sucks

  28. JimR says:

    He throws like a girl.

  29. SJP says:

    Funny clips, #7.

How did this guy miss Balmer? He’s like 5 feet away.

  30. floyd says:

#1: Actually, once patches are installed, Vista is a pretty good, stable OS.

If there’s any problem, it’s that you have so much freedom to configure the OS that someone new to Vista will get lost. I’ve had a laptop with Vista for 5 months, and I still have to search for some configuration screens.

#16: Maybe that’s the real reason the tosser’s ticked off.
