GodTube.com, a YouTube knockoff for the evangelical set, seems to be one $tep closer to building a kingdom on earth.

Last week the site, which shows Christian videos and features a flip-through Bible and prayer blogs, received a $30 million investment from GLG Partners, a big London hedge fund. The investment valued GodTube at nearly $150 million.

GodTube offers sermons, theological debates, Christian rap videos and low-budget skits like “See man watching porn get caught by Jesus,” which plays out exactly as the title suggests. The investment will help sustain the on-screen Bible and a prayer wall where devout Web surfers can petition God to bless the afflicted or warm the heart of an intransigent girlfriend.

Unlike its secular cousin, YouTube, all content must gain approval from the site’s headquarters in Plano, Texas. Vulgar or overtly sexual material is not allowed. Neither are videos promoting other religions — for that, there are JewTube.com and IslamicTube.net. The domain name SatanTube.com is still for sale.

Say Halleluyuh! Pass the plate.

Greet the new Reverend BubbaRay, head of the Church Of The Presumptuous Assumption Of … The Blinding Light!

Now, pass that shiny plate around. And don’t forget to pull those handles on the Holy Slot Machines after the services. Will God shine His Lucky Light on you today?

What a wonderful idea, a product with no tangible deliverables and very little customer support required.

“The investment valued GodTube at nearly $150 million”

How in the world did they come up with a value of $150 million? Who’s making money off of this, and how? I still don’t understand the cooked up numbers valuating YouTube. Someone is making money somehow which attracted an investment group to fund this enterprise. Sounds like God for profit (not prophet).

  3. jlm says:

hmm couldnt they have just made a channel or group on youtube instead?

  4. rcopeh says:

    “Halleluyah”

    That’d be ‘Hallelujah’.

    I’ll get my coat.

  5. bobbo says:

I don’t know youtube that well but doesn’t it have specialty groups on just about every interest–or did this blog have an entry a while back that some atheist group got shut down?

I go to youtube all the time for specific subjects (like how to make sausage–lots of good videos that inspires one). Seems to me if they aren’t advertising such subsets of themselves, they ought to quickly?

  6. Mike says:

    lol… he said man flesh….

  7. Mister Mustard says:

    >>I don’t know youtube that well but
    >>doesn’t it have specialty groups on
    >>just about every interest

Sure they do, but that’s something people do as a hobby. You don’t get $30,000,000 investment from venture capitalists or a valuation of $150,000,000 for having a YouTube specialty group.

    As-Salāmu `Alaykum (from IslamicTube.net)

  8. Personality says:

It states you won’t be able to view the videos without a donation from PayPal.

  9. bobbo says:

#7–Thanks Mustard, I’m slow on the uptake. YouTube subgroup is voluntary group of interested souls whereas GodTube is a forprofit exercise in hard selling indulgences. Selling the ignorant what is available on the internet for free.

How many fortunes have been made that way?

  10. floyd says:

“GodTube,” from Plano, Texas no less. Why am I reminded of the late Flip Wilson’s Reverend Leroy and the Church of What’s Happening Now?

  11. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#2 – Sounds like God for profit

God has always been a “for profit” enterprise.

#8 – It states you won’t be able to view the videos without a donation from PayPal.

    Right. A “donation”. That’s the ticket! Actually… it is a ticket…

  12. woody says:

Where’s Jew Tube? I wanna watch videos of the chosen people engaged in pedastry, slaughtering kids for the blood for their matzo balls, and shooting palestinian women and kids in the face.

  13. Timuchin says:

Thanks for the news. I’ll take a look. I hope you don’t get in trouble for getting ‘soft’ on Christians!

  14. Rich says:

I went to GodTube and did a search for “nude teen feet” and got no results. The site seems pretty useless to me. 😉
