This weekend I had the opportunity of seeing the Speed Racer Movie. The visual style of the movie is quite spectacular, becoming even more impressive if you see this movie in a theater that has a digital projector. This movie is directly aimed a children, but it’s still quite accessible to adults. I have to say that while watching the movie I kept wanting it to be more grittier somehow; don’t get me wrong, the movie is quite fun, but I just kept wanting it to be more violent. One thing I have to say is that the theater were I saw the movie was quite empty. The Iron Man movie had a lot more people in it.

To help you make a decision to go see this movie, you can see the first seven minutes below:

Do yourself a favour and go see this movie in a theater with a digital projector. If you were a fan of the cartoon, you will like it a lot. However, it has been reported that the movie hasn’t done well this weekend.

  1. The Warden says:

Looks like you are the odd man out of liking this movie by the two brothers (or is it sister and brother since one of them is now a woman?).

This movie bombed worse than the time I tried to karaoke the song HOMOSEXUAL by the Angry Samoans at a gay bar in West Hollywood.

GO see REDBELT and give us a review on that.

  2. Gasparrini says:

#1, too proud to see a movie for children? What you see in the trailers is what you get from the movie.

Guess you were not a fan of the cartoon.

  3. sdf says:

looks like this one is for the fans. fine by me – otherwise we get crap like indiana jones iv

  4. The Warden says:

    Gasp,

True that I don’t really care about SpeedRacer and probably more happy that it failed because I think the Wackoff brother and sister are a bit over hyped and that I love to see hollyweird fail with few exceptions.

I am GLAD that IronMAn is doing well because it was done well and didn’t mess with the character like other Superhero movies have done, again with few exceptions.

I don’t have a problem that YOU liked it. Movies are subjective, as we all know. I am just tired of those child molesting, drug using, irrelevant hacks in HW thinking that the viewing public is DUMB.

  5. Michael Grosberg says:

    What the…?
Man, those 7 minutes were some head trip. It started off well, the short segment at the beginning when speed’s in class was quite inventive, but then he goes outside… into a life-sized lego play-set. I know the cartoon had those repetitive background mattes but this just looked awful. Then we’re suddenly at the race track and it’s like looking at someone playing a pinball machine while you’re tripping on acid and my eyes couldn’t take it anymore.

  6. Higghawker says:

I was a huge fan of the cartoon, watching every afternoon after school. My expectations were very high after I heard who was directing (The Wachowski brothers) The visuals are intense, I enjoyed the whole ride. If you were a fan of the cartoon, you will not be disappointed.

  7. HMeyers says:

The visuals of the movie and the coloring are very nice; it’s a good kids movie but I think it runs about 30 minutes too long for a kids movie.

I rarely watched the Speed Racer cartoon, but it appears the movie is very faithful to the cartoon (Racer X, etc.)

If it doesn’t recover at the box office (it probably won’t), it will likely do well in DVD sales.

  8. LtJackboot says:

I grew up on this cartoon, I even looked like the cartoon character! My son and I will love this movie and anyone else can just go and develop a sense of fun.

  9. admfubar says:

oooohhhhhhhhhhhh but wait… there is more, here comes the sequel!!!

  10. ArianeB says:

The first seven minutes was more than enough for me. This plays like a non stop commercial, and the color scheme is just blinding.

    Hell No!!

  11. scadragon says:

    Oh please please please please.
A Captain Harlock movie next, PLEASE!!!!

  12. andy says:

13, ugh, you’re joking right? akira comes out next year, maybe that will teach you a lesson.

  13. Gasparrini says:

#5, OK, fair enough. I understand that the movie is not from everyone, I even expanded my original post to indicate that the movie hasn’t done well this weekend. The whole idea of the post was to give people a chance to make a more informed decision in regards to this movie without really spoiling it for them.

  14. I saw it. I don’t regret seeing it, but cant recommend it. I didn’t find it bad, I found it disappointing. I guess I bought into the hype too much, but I found it a bit dull, not nearly as exciting as I expected, and visually, it was interesting, but I didn’t find it to be unique and revolutionary as I lead to believe it would be. I like to see these type of big visual films on the big screen, and like I said, I dont regret buying a ticket for it, but I honestly doubt that this is a film I will return to on the small screen. – Senseless Babble – PS: they say this is a kids film, so I brought the kids. My 8 year old said it was “borring”,
