Ya know, in another context, this might be considered bribery. On the other hand, since this is politics, calling it that would just be mean spirited. BTW, have you gotten your Hillary Deathwatch Widget yet?
Big Rewards Await Clinton If She Ends Campaign Now
She has ruled it out, but a prompt withdrawal from the contest for the Democratic nomination offers Sen. Hillary Clinton the prospect of major rewards.
One of the most inviting is the near certainty that the Obama campaign would agree to pay back the $11.4 million she has loaned her own bid, along with an estimated $10 million to $15 million in unpaid campaign expenses.
In addition, Democrats, both those who are loyal and those who are opposed to her campaign, say the odds of her winning a top leadership spot in the Senate would improve dramatically if she gracefully conceded now. The icing on the cake includes an improved political climate, giving Hillary and Bill Clinton the opportunity to heal the rift with the black political community.
“If she leaves the stage gracefully, as Gore did in 2000, she will be able to rebuild her political capital within the party fairly quickly, and over time most of her perceived and real sins will be long forgiven and/or forgotten,” said Dan Gerstein, a Democratic consultant and Obama supporter.
“NOOOOOO! I’d get WHAT?!?”
In that case, I hope she holds on ’til the bitter end, and still loses.
Hope Granted.
The absolutely worst thing she could do is continue to go after Obama instead of McCain. Obama is the presumptive nominee (actually he was for a couple of months now, but now it is obvious to everybody). Any attempts to weaken Obama from this point forward could cost her clout points in the DNC.
I doubt she will get the VP nomination (most likely going to Governor Richardson) but Senate Majority Leader or a cushy cabinet post could be hers.
OTOH–The reason Hillary has Super Delegates switch on her and the rest fail to declare is – – – – Hillary is already greatly disliked by her peers. I don’t see her gaining the respect of anyone that knows her, or folks like me, who don’t know her at all except for her sleazy dishonest politics.
On a lighter note,we now know what attracted Bill to Hillary-take a look at that mouth!
I look for Hillary to get enough support in the last states to bring the fight to the convention. I really do not see her giving up easily.
I also see the Democrats losing in the Fall election because of this in fighting. I see supporter’s on both sides (Hillary/Obama) not supporting the other candidate in the Fall. John McCain must be laughing at this and thinking this will be easier then I thought. I am neither a Democrat or a Republican because I think neither will get this country back on its feat.
So far this has not happened. Bill Clinton sold out America to NAFTA and George Bush has bankrupt America into a War we cannot gain from.
Nobody on ether side should promise better jobs or say they will create jobs. That’s not what presidents do. Government does not tell free enterprise to create jobs. Its unfortunate that in a world economy we have to compete with wages in other countries. Many times that means lowering our living standards. Or worse losing jobs to other lower wage countries like China. Get a clue people! It’s been happening for years!!! Decades even!!
BTW McCain is going to win because he is white and a war hero.He is the only guy who can pull out of Iraq and make it look like a victory. The Dems fighting?-it is what they do.
Obama will be Vince Fostered and Hillary will be the nominee. Its plan ‘C’ also known as the Clinton Prerogative. A common facet of Feudal law.
You heard it here first.
#8–pedro==to paraphrase your link: “What a few right wing douchebags do is isolate a few of Obama’s associations and make those the sum of the man.”
I am slightly negative about Obama, but my support grows as I see dipshit analysis like this thrown at him.
Can’t tell exactly what you hope you are wrong about–but it looks like “everything about Obama.”

It doesn’t matter who wins…they are all liars and cheats.
#5 billabong – looks like she could attract donkeys or horses at shows in Tijuana. Either of which would be preferable to hearing her speak.
I think it is hilarious that the system McGovern designed in order to prevent a ’68 is going to cause it all over again. LOL
Hillary will not give up. I believe she will stay in the race to make Obama’s chances of winning in the general election slim. The longer Obama spends in the primary election the less time he has for actually campaigning for the presidency. She will take down the party if it means she can run again in four years.
#14–pedro==another good link, especially the links from there, thanks.
I don’t believe in guilt by association absent something very direct.
How would you like to be known as someone who exchanged serveral blog entries with bobbo? See the unfairness and the harm?
But worse than that, it is just faulty reasoning.
Anything directly on Obama?
I don’t think Hillary has ever done anything gracefully. As for Al Gore, didn’t he jump up and down and scream for 2-3 days while his lawyers (and Dubya’s lawyers) argued about the election?
If she loses the nomination, she stays a U.S. Senator and moves up the ladder. Sounds pretty good to me… it’s not like she’s going to have to start collecting unemployment checks.
Besides, after McCain wins by a nose in November and truly screws up the country, she can run again in 2012 and be a shoo-in, right? 🙂
McGovern didn’t design it. It was designed to prevent another McGovern.
Kennedy went all the way to the convention floor against Carter with about 1400 delegates. Hillary will be around 1800, so of course she should go all the way to the convention. She might still be able to seat the Florida and Michigan delegations, since they are on the Credentials Committee already, in which Obamastill neads another 400 delegates.
It will be fun watching team Clinton argue that black votes should count as 3/5.

1970
McGovern-Fraser Commission created by Democratic Party
In response to the bitter Democratic convention of 1968, the Democratic Party established the Commission on Party Structure and Delegate Selection, popularly known as the McGovern-Fraser Commission after its chairs, Senator George McGovern and Congressman Don Fraser. The Commission was created to investigate and make recommendations for the reform of primary elections within the U.S. Until now, state legislators had responsibility for selecting delegates to each party’s nominating conventions. The Commission overhauled the rules, and opened up the process of selecting delegates to public participation and voting, thereby including more women, youth and minority delegates.
#16, bobbo. We all hate guilt by association, but we also know this will be the central theme against Obama during the general election.
Particularly in Obama’s case, it is guilt by association, more association, even more association, and then some more association.
It’s one thing to be linked to someone you knew in passing or indirectly for a short period of time, and entirely another to have guys like Wright and Ayers being close personal confidants for decades.
McCain is going to have a field day with this. Obama’s friends are supporting Chavez, Obama himself consorts with Anti-American radicals, Haight-Asbury in the White House – Again!!!
McCain by a landslide.
Gore left gracefully in 2000…..WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?
#17 – It was more than a few days….
Every decision/design/system has pro’s and con’s. Don’t like smoke filled rooms?–then open it up to more people. Then you don’t like the protracted arguments that take place with evenly matched people?==fine, go to winner take all by State like the Republicans and then piss off all the minority constituencies. Then go back to smoke filled rooms but call it something else. Go full circle, it’s a beautiful thing.
#26 “fine, go to winner take all by State like the Republicans and then piss off all the minority constituencies.”
Since ALL of our elections take this route it is probably better as it’s known and accepted already. But, the Dems seem to screw themselves and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory too often.
#27–pat==in context we are talking about the party nominating process not the general election. Hillary would already be the Dem nominee under a winner take all system BUT the Dems use a proportional system which has given the majority votes/wins to Obama.
#29 Really? You made my point. IF you read what I wrote…
Now, all we need is an article on how McCain would benefit if he drops out and the trilogy is complete.
#9 – You heard it here first.
And with luck… last.
@22 pat, ok, but I was talking about adding in the superdelegates to prevent another McGovern.
#33 – Got it. Yes, the Hunt Commission is what you are referring to I believe.
Bobbo, from what source do you conclude “Obama’s life and aspirations are apposite to what Wright gave his sermons on.”
#35 Come on Ah_Yea, you ALWAYS choose and keep your spiritual advisor & children’s pastor based on his beliefs being the opposite of yours. EVERYONE knows that! Get with the program already. God!
