Why isn’t this working? Afraid the cops will stumble on mom & dad’s bondage gear? You know it’ll be the talk of the donut shop next day. Or their pot stash?
Suppose calls flood in resulting in hoards of confiscated guns. Would involuntary random searches to ‘make the community safer’ be next?
Gun initiative hasn’t turned up a single lead
Boston’s much-ballyhooed “safe homes” initiative hasn’t received a single call to search a home for guns in the nearly four weeks since the program was launched.
Program advocates had hoped parents of at-risk youths who suspect their children of stashing guns would be among the callers to the hotline, 1-888-GUNTIPS.
Under the program, aimed at taking the battle against gun violence into teens’ bedrooms, anyone can request a voluntary search of homes where guns are thought to be hidden.
Homeowners or parents sign a waiver allowing a search team of clergy and plainclothes Boston police assigned to the public schools to conduct the search. In exchange, cops promise not to arrest the offenders for illegal possession, saying the goal is to take as many weapons off the street as possible.
Here’s an interesting point from an editorial:
More importantly, we might want to consider what will happen if parents allow police to search for a gangbanger’s gun. He’s going to be angry with his parents – possibly a single mother who is scared of him – and he’s going to get another gun, thus either supporting the illegal gun market or by stealing it from a law-abiding owner.
You know, the subject is interesting enough not to make the lead sentence misleading. It should be “Would you request the Police to search your Home.”
Evidently, parents with out of control violent prone kids with guns are afraid to do so. Well, they know their kids the best. I guess they will just wait until their kids are at their wedding parties for poetic justice to make its move.
Maybe it’s time for a “Wacky News from Boston” section.
The search includes a clergy? Is he on the city payroll? That ain’t right.
Why turn in the family member making the big money? I’ve seen families where the hardest worker is the drug dealing son.
Not as well known here in the USA, but that picture is missing Muhamed Talat Pasha, the interior and main minister of Turkey 1915 that began the Armenian genocide
What’s missing is that the elected president or prime minister of most industrial nations already gets to enforce just about the same law and policy.
But, then, that wouldn’t match anyone’s Cold War imagery. Would it?
Imagine that … no one trusts the cops. How did that happen? Hmmmmm?
Hmmm. Shotgun. Pistol. Bad ass rifle. Antique rifle. That’s what’s sitting in the gun safe in my son’s room. He’s not even 18 yet. And yes, he knows the combo to the safe. He has to. It’s his job to clean the guns. And the guns are not even his, they’re his brother’s. 😉 His brother is an MP in the Army.
Oh, and they are all properly registered (unlike some people that will remain nameless to protect the guilty).
But let the police in my house without a warrant? I’m going to say no on that.
Another point that was brought up in one of the local editorials was these kids are now going to start stashing guns outside the home, where smaller kids may find them.
wont work, here is the real zinger………
in cleveland, the gangbangers are storing their weapns in abandoned houses, they are community guns, anyone in the gang has easy access to a gun, a relatively safe pick and drop point.
They aint gonna keep evidence in their possession.. pulleeze! these gays are always a step ahead of the police.
#10 – They aint gonna keep evidence in their posession.. pulleeze! these gays are always a step eahead of the police.
I don’t see what their sexual orientation has to do with anything.
Hm…. So your kid is in a gang…. Or maybe you’re in one, or at least have some stolen goods in your house. Even with a total amnesty, if the Officers see _anything_, you’re going to be “on the list”….
Meantime, if the kid is upset by this, he/she will adjust your attitude, possibly with another gun, very soon….
Ain’t gonna happen if the folks involved have any kind of sense at all….
What we have here is yet another “feel good” – something that looks good on the surface, but once you think about it, is downright silly, or at least worthless.
Might as well send flowers….
This shouldn’t even be up for debate. Why does government just looove to patch up problems instead of solving the problems at the source? JOB SECURITY. For example, why not go after businesses for employing illegal immigrants, and use the fines to pay for the endeavor? In this case, the real problem is poverty, lack of education, and unemployment, which leads to violent crime. Instead, the police want to have a special hotline so people can call in to initiate an armed invasion of their neighbor’s house based on their perception of “suspicious” activity, as if we were talking about “terrorist safehouses” in Iraq! Sounds like a bunch of bored cops in a small Texas town, or something much more sinister, if you ask me… It would create more problems than it solves… unbelievable that these idiots think their ideas are justified!!!
Wow, this is boneheaded. I guess the parent(s) could search their own home if they were really concerned enough; they don’t need the police to wipe their ass. The parent(s) that are not concerened – doesn’t care – will not call the police in. Simple as that.
Do I have any guns in the house officer? Why, what do you need?
F**k no; cause then they would find the porn, pot , bootleg software music etc.
Wow… a gun thread with less than 150 rabid posts 🙂
