I received this comic in an email, but finally found the author. Read Rudis Muiznieks’ other comics here.

I guess by this submission there are also virgins waiting for martyrs, enlightment from the denial of the self, kami in cell phones, a great turtle in the sky, speed of light has never changed, canals on Mars, the lungs are attached to the penis that is why it gets erect and the earth is the center of the universe.

Humans are often wrong… can’t blame it on anything other that the human.

  2. julieb says:

Humans are often wrong. They are wrong when they think god exists.

Everybody knows prayer doesn’t work. People get comfort from talking to an imaginary friend.

I like George Carlin’s quote about prayer, “Suppose the thing you want is not in god’s divine plan. What’s he going to do, change his plan? Just for you? Doesn’t it seem a little arrogant? What’s the use of being god if every run down schmuck with a $2 prayer book can come along and fuck up your plan?”

  3. Jägermeister says:

    Scientific Proof that Prayer Works!

SN… I think you ought to change it to Scientific Proof that Prayer does not Works!, because that’s what the comic strip shows. 😉

  4. spud_upb says:

People are wrong when they don’t search something out for themselves. Let’s just take someone else’s word for it…. To believe in God is a personal choice that each individual must search out on their own. Unfortunately, most don’t. They just dismiss on a whim and move on. If you fancy yourself a person of science then shouldn’t you test the hypothesis that their is or is not a God for yourself? Try prayer, read the Bible and see what comes of it. Can’t imagine where we would be if men like Einstein just went along with the masses because they insisted they were right.

  5. bobbo says:

It just occurred to me what with daily examples on this blog that humor in all its forms does not come across in this medium====maybe this universe is God’s Blog and we just don’t get it?

(((Now you gotta admit, THAT was funny, but no, I am not God, except sometimes for a few seconds when I wake up and have to remember who I actually am.)

  6. TheCommodore says:

All right, quit ‘nickle and dime’ing us here. When is science going to come up with a cure for the headache? Or, when will science stop using the ‘chance’ factor in explaining so much of existence? I’m not saying religion has all the answers. Rather, until we can claim we understand everything, and have the math to back it up, you shouldn’t discount faith so venially.

Actually, the write probably secretly wishes he/she had the humility to be able to pray.

  7. floyd says:

#5: “People are wrong when they don’t search something out for themselves. Let’s just take someone else’s word for it…”

That’s what religion is all about–taking someone else’s word that there’s a guy in the sky that is so powerful that he’ll change his plans just because someone asks for something else. I haven’t won the Powerball yet…

#7: The headache cure is called aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen.

  8. julieb says:

#5: Ironically it was in a religious school, while reading the bible and praying that I became an atheist. So you may want to reconsider that advice while trying to convert someone to xtianity.

#7: It takes humility to pray? No thanks, I have dignity.

I’m sure there is a great joke built into this threads content about religionists causing headaches. But I will resist because honestly, I love arguing with you crazy bastards.

  9. James Hill says:

I prayed that you’d do a better job of being a hack, and you delivered. Way to go, servant of God.

  10. QB says:

Superstitious behavior has been studied for years and is an example of random interval reinforcement. It’s also very similar to gambling addiction which explains a lot.

  11. Bob says:

The only proof I see is that your a moron. Once again it’s proof you liberals don’t love God. We know you hate the USA. My question is do you like Chevy’s or apple pie? I see that as the only difference between liberals and most left wing dictators.

  12. Mister Mustard says:

    >>It takes humility to pray? No thanks,
    >>I have dignity.

The two are not mutually exclusive, pumpkin. In fact, those with the most humility often have the most dignity.

  13. DrBen says:

Come on guys, don’t go “atheist” on me?

Seriously some us believe and some don’t. Society now demands upon those who do believe to show and prove those beliefs rather than simply impose them upon others, as in the past.

BTW, I *have* been healed by prayer or some higher power within or without. But i won’t walk out on the parkway and pray for the cars to stop before they hit me. And I feel that if Aspirin is there, use it!

  14. badcowboy says:

The one bad thing that religion does is to stop people from searching for answers. If you can ‘give it up’ to a higher being as the thing responsible for pain, murder, pleasure, etc, you stop searching for the real answer. Religion has held back mankind for thousands of years by giving quick and easy answers to any problem – and stopped science from finding the real answers on numerous occasions.

  15. hhopper says:

“When I was young I used to pray for a bike, then I realized that God doesn’t work that way, so I stole a bike and prayed for forgiveness.”

  16. julieb says:

I say Mr Mustard, you should feel shame for putting such faith in fairy tales.

  17. Mr. Gawd Almighty Himself says:

    #13, DrBen,

BTW, I *have* been healed by prayer or some higher power within or without. But i won’t walk out on the parkway and pray for the cars to stop before they hit me.

I am so very glad to hear that prayer healed you. I also suppose the hospital / doctors never sent you a bill either. Nor were you prescribed any medication that might have assisted you recovery.

I too have been saved without medical intervention. Just a couple of weeks ago I split my pants right up the crotch. I would have died if I didn’t have a coat to cover the area in question. Yes, talk about a close call.

  18. Mr. Catshit says:

    #15, hopper,

    Love it.

  19. Cursor_ says:

Atheism is as much faith based as spiritualism is.

Both sides of the fence are in denial.

    Cursor_

  20. Actually, I just have to say that there are some honest individuals who have tried to prove the efficacy of prayer scientifically and have even been self-honest enough to publish the results.

    #19 – Cursor_,

Presumably you admit the possibility of the Great Pumpkin, right? If not, why not? When you get the answer to that, you’ll understand atheists.

  21. bobbo says:

#20–Scott==thats an excellent thread you ran there. Thanks for the extra work and referencing it.

“You got to know about it for a placebo effect to work—but not for prayer.” Just excellent.

  22. #21 – bobbo,

Thanks for the compliment. Glad you liked it. I was impressed that religious folks were willing to admit the findings.

    >> Atheism is as much faith based as spiritualism is.
    >> Both sides of the fence are in denial.

I think you half get it.

There is a wing of atheism that is pseudo religious — typified by the ones who believe that science disproves religion.

But, my sense is this is a relatively small wing of atheists. Most just simply don’t believe and have no beef with those who do. Those are the ones that aren’t a pain in the arse.

  24. bobbo says:

#24–Greg==science may not disprove religion, but it does disprove everything religion teaches except for the question of gods existence. But, that seems close enough.

  25. Said says:

My wife and I almost didn’t get married because of our religious differences. She is agnostic and I am atheist.

  26. Mark says:

It all boils down to something Carl Sagan said.

“Faith is belief without evidence. Why would you want to believe something if there’s no evidence for it?”

There’s not a shred of evidence in the existence of any supernatural forces or beings outside the natural world. If your god, whatever you claim it is, is a supernatural being, then there’s no evidence it exists.

Trying to make other people believe something for no good reason is immoral, but can be effective if you’re trying to control people.
