MIAMI – Authorities are questioning a 73-year-old driver who sped through a security gate at Miami International Airport and ended up on one of the main runways. The man has not been identified. Police say he may have been disoriented when he drove passed security Friday morning.

He was quickly detained by police. Airport spokesman Greg Chin said no flights or landings were delayed. Although the runway was closed for a short time, he said, the airport’s other three runways were not affected.

Yikes!

“passed security”? I wonder if he knows how to spell. That would give him a leg up on MSNBC.

  2. sirfelix says:

Did anyone bother to ask how the man had access to the runway in the first place?
Are flyers really safer now then before 9/11?
More proof that we have monkeys running the government.

  3. ranger says:

sirfelix – we needed more proof?

  4. Dallas says:

Why would a terrorist bother to park and go through the hastles of airport security?

Just drive up to runway and get in front of a plane during takeoff.

  5. amodedoma says:

Yeah it’s worth a laugh but it has a serious side too. There are alot of people out there who are in no condition to drive yet still hold a valid driver’s license, and a lot of them are over 65. It’d be interesting to see the statistics on this one but it’s a safe bet that 1000’s of accidents are caused by the elderly every year. My mother in law’s a danger to herself and other drivers but her children are unable to convince her of it (even after a couple of fender bender close calls). You’d think somebody from our government should try to put a stop to this, unfortunately the elderly have one hell of a powerful lobby.

  6. Chris Mac says:

Ya. Those crafty seniors are probably just making this whole dementia/Alzheimer’s thing up so they can get away with crazy shit..

    Wise Plan…

  7. bobbo says:

Local DMV in California is starting age related testing. I went with my Mom to DMV as she is hard of hearing. She was asked an additional question because of her age: What is your social security number, and what year were you born in?

I would have asked her What is the square root of Nine?==but then I’d be driving her around more than I want to.

  8. maria says:

That was my thaught too#6. I have an 87 year old dad that is a danger to himself and everyone else. #8 I am surprised the arrp people let them get away with that. They sued in my state claiming age discrimnation. Doctors can not ban them either. The part I do not understand is the insurance people. They keep renewing him evan though he has had numerous fenderbenders in the last few years.

  9. bobbo says:

#9–Maria==good point. Well, they are supposed to have “actualariliasts” (sp and too lazy)to match the premium to the risk. Even at straight rates, the older drivers don’t drive nearly the same miles, and accidents aren’t as severe as going slower. Lots of variables.

Good thing Mom only gets dizzy when she stands up.

  10. Hope the driver had auto insurance that was in force
You never know the reasons that reputable insurance agencies will cancel coverage
Officer she told me she was 16
