Danica Patrick

The Sports Network – Indy Car Series — This took forever and it’s now off the table. Race enthusiasts have been sick of waiting for this over-hyped driver to finally win a race.

Motegi, Japan (Sports Network) – Danica Patrick finally answered her critics by capturing the rain-delayed Japan Indy 300 from the Twin Ring Motegi circuit in Japan. The No.7 Andretti Green Racing driver passed Helio Castroneves with three laps to go and crossed the finish line a comfortable 5.8594 seconds ahead of the field.

The victory was Patrick’s first and the first by a woman in the IndyCar career. It was her 50th IndyCar start.

“It’s a long time coming,” said a crying Patrick. “Thank you to Andretti Green and to all my teammates…finally.”

  1. Brian says:

When open wheeled racing split into two factions in the states, fan interest in indy racing here plummeted. She’s as responsible as anyone for generating new fan interest, and with the 2 factions of indy car racing coming back together, she’ll be the face of the sport.

So she hadn’t won a race before, it’s not like she’d never been competitive. Was Dan Marino looked down upon for having never won a super bowl? It’s obvious she has driving talent and looks to match.

  2. Uncle Ben says:

Blimey, hadn’t ever heard of her until it was mentioned here…. still, its nice to finally see Sebrian-Irish Americans being represented on the race track… they’ve been excluded for far to long …. 😀

  3. Is this the real driver or a stock photo of an attractive woman ?

    [That’s Danica. – ed.]

  4. Is this the real driver in the flesh or a stock photo ?
If so i would not mind a run in accident with her

  5. The Warden says:

I have always been saying that it will be hard for a woman to win as female breasts are just not aerodynamic!

But then again, if just flashed them to the other drivers, she probably would win more races due to “driver” distraction.

  6. floyd says:

#4: That’s really her. She’s really that attractive, though she’s doesn’t wear all that makeup on Race Days. She’s also tough and aggressive enough to win a lot of auto races now and in the future. Brian has it right about her competitiveness as a racer. I think she’s good enough to win the Indy 500.

Incidentally, Indy Car and Grand Prix are real auto racing series. NASCAR is more like pro wrestling, with its good old boy pretensions and its plastic “stock car” bodies.

  7. pat says:

I vaguely remember the media frenzy when she started racing. I see how hard it is for women in this world. Not much talent nets you huge media attention.

  8. fahrquar says:

Pat- if that was true then Kyle Petty would headline the news every day!:-) She won, she may never win again, but she did it once and not many drivers can even claim that.

  9. Joffi says:

And the testosterone runs wild once again (and not in a good way).

Starting with the post title and on through most of the comments, it seems the general sentiment is, “Woman, only reason she’s around, no real talent.”

    http://moourl.com/t6s6t

Those would be her race statistics. (I used this thing called ‘search’ to actually research before commenting).

Who here in 50 tries could grab the poll three times, finish top 10 29 times, top five nine times, and win one at speeds three times your latest highway ticket? Against a field of others, btw. Oh, any here have a national karting championship? How about three of them?

I am not much of a racing fan, despite my family’s love of it; but skill is skill. Period. And the male chauvinist attitudes I see rampant of late, along with blowhards with ignorance on their side, makes it difficult for me to admit to being both a man and a geek.

  10. Personality says:

When she joins NASCAR, she will be a race car driver.

  11. Mac Guy says:

I saw her years ago in Richmond, VA, at the IRL race there. She was just terrible, but she’s grown a lot since then.

Frankly, I don’t know what the big deal is. We have female pilots in the Air Force doing the same thing. Only exception is that they don’t get to take victory laps.

  12. clancys_daddy says:

All sports figures are over hyped. The public lauds accolades to those who can throw a ball, shoot a basket, drive a car etc. Then when one or two “give” something back they get even more acclaim. I teach a class every month or two on wastewater operations for facility operators. After doing this for three years I have a hell of a lot more appreciation for teachers who do this every day. More time and effort goes into teaching effectively then will ever go into professional sports.

  13. FRAGaLOT says:

she’s on godaddy all the time.

  14. DaveC says:

I can tell most of you never follow racing to make some stupid comments. Danica has been one of the more competitive drivers in the IRL. I’m glad she’s finally got this monkey off her back and won one..

And for you who think Nascar is “real racing” again, obviously do not know much about auto racing. I’m not saying IRL is better than nascar, personally I look at both as different styles of driving, but driving a car at 225 mph around an oval track takes a huge amount of skill to do. You can’t normally just duct tape a Indy car after it’s done about 6 flips in the air after bummping another car at 225!

  15. Despite the pics, she’s a total Tomboy trying to show up “men” for the sake of it. I think she’d be great in NASCAR. She should head there when she can.

  16. GF says:

Naw, she just loves to race. I think the media BS is well, BS. I doubt she’ll go to NASCAR but you never know.

  17. Canucklehead says:

Not surprised a woman can be the fastest race car driver. Not after having been driven over many years by my speedster wife. Talk about a lead foot.

Funny thing is, when she (my wife) gets pulled over by the cops for speeding, she pulls the poor little woman routine, and always gets a reduced fine or nothing at all, especially when the tears come out, and she pretends her husband (me) is going to kill her. Me, I always get whacked the full amount.

BTW, judging by that picture, Danica is pretty hot.

  18. bobbo says:

I think it is “of note” that you take an otherwise accomplished “tom boy” who has spent a lot of time racing cars and competing and she still winds up posing as a sex object.

Maybe we can see this abuse when we look at the FLDS church in Texas. Harder to see it in ourselves.

  19. Mister Mustard says:

    >>she still winds up posing as a sex object.
    >>Maybe we can see this abuse when we look

    >>see it in ourselves.

Bobbolina! ===-= Are you implying that Ms Patrick was coerced into posing in her cameltoe suit by evil, Kool Aid-swigging grownups? == Lying on her back with her legs spread wide in that “come hither” pose? Back arched, all tarted up, with her boobies spilling out of the swim suit? =-===

  20. bobbo says:

#19–Mustard. NO!!! No coercion at all. I think she gets off on the attention of adolescent males salivating all over the place. That strokes her ego and puts money in the bank.

Now, I’m trying to think of myself in the same position==lets see, as a famous blog personality. Would I pose in a gay white puffy shirt with a gold chain? No. That’s not my image.

Would I pose drooling like an idiot over Danica?

    Whoot boy!!!—Wheres the camera?

  21. Mister Mustard says:

#20 ‘olina =-= Oh, OK. == You confused me with the term “abuse”, as though Danica’s case were somehow similar to the plight of the abused children at that wacky Mormon compound.

  22. triad60 says:

Guess Danica proves good things come in small packages !

    Thank Heaven for little girls……………..

  23. bobbo says:

#21–Mustard==the worst abuse you see in the FLDS and Bianca==so bad that the victims adopt it as their own personal outlook on life.==Like negroes who might have convinced themselves they actually like picking cotton–or dare I say lower class high school drop outs who are proud to serve in the Army. Once that level of abuse is reached, no further coercion is required, except for the back door draft.

  24. The Pirate says:

    #15
iirc she was offered a spot on a NASCAR team when she switched from Rahal-Letterman to Andretti Green, turned em down. As for the tomboy, she is aggressive for sure, but a tomboy… I dunno, met her a few times at PR events and she didn’t seem tomish’.

  25. Mister Mustard says:

    >>the worst abuse you see in the FLDS and Bianca

“Bianca”? Wtf are you talking about, Bobster? Your comments are getting murkier and murkier with each post.

  26. bobbo says:

#25–You know Danica/Bianca whats the diff? I just got thru cleaning the leaves off my roof, and I’m decompressing with a beer. Life is good. I’m ready to agree with everybody==as long as they are criticizing “everything.”

  27. Mister Mustard says:

You should get a sloped roof, Mr. Bobbolina. The leaves just wash off in the rain.

  28. bobbo says:

#27–Mustard==one of my hobbies is blueprinting my desired ultimate home. Don’t think I’ll ever get to build it, but still fun to make material estimates and build cardboard models. It has very steep roofs covered in metal sheeting ala Ihop or a Butler Building.

Anyway, the current shithole I am in has too flat roofs. Wind blows the leaves off but dirt accumulates and moss grows==it was warm enough today to go up with the hose and blast it before the roots come thru and degrade the drywall. Also gets rid of the racoon and squirrel shit.

  29. bobbo says:

Mustard, I lied. “Part” of the dream house has steep roofs. The majority of the roof is flat with a parapet allowing for a roof top garden to be used for bonzai planets and a variation only I have which is banzai plants in a planter with 3 feet of dirt–I call it bobbozai. Anyway, said roof accessable by stairway from the central ditribution vertical corridor (also used for a return shaft for the whole house fan/cleaning ducting system, is fronted by those steep roofs to provide privacy. I wouldn’t comment, but its my hobby.

  30. Mister Mustard says:

Ah, a Butler(R) Building, like the Missouri Department of Corrections?

    (Click photo to enlarge.)

You should finish your beer and go to bed for the night, Bob. I think you’re plumb tuckered out with all this talk of Danica!
