Chinese-made ‘Hillbilly Teeth’ recalled
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of about 26,000 packages of Chinese-made “Hillbilly Teeth” due to a health hazard.
The CPSC said the importer, Funtastic of Houston, initiated the recall because gray surface paint on the teeth was found to contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.
The recall involves item No. 2657, a 2-pack of fake “Hillbilly Teeth.” The item number is printed on the packaging. The recalled toy was sold nationwide from March 2005 through March 2008 for about $2.
Consumers can contact the company at 800-434-5207 for refund information.
Hadn’t gotten the message yet
You get Hillbilly Teeth from using Hillbilly Teeth. Ironic?
People don’t even use lead based paints to paint the walls of their homes anymore. Who in China decided it’s a good idea to use them for painting toys and things meant to be put in your mouth?
Our daughter “won” a set of Hillbilly Teeth two or three years ago at a carnival or something. Well, I guess she won’t be wearing them any more.
I don’t want to sound like a alarmist but, with all the lead found in Chinese made products, anyone else starting to think it’s being done intentially?
The problem with China (as I gather it) is that it’s just a free-for-all of unregulated and inspected manufactoring. That’s why they’re getting the contracts, in the first place. Because they can beat the costs of US and European factories, by using using unsafe methods and materials of manufacture. And they take the blame for it. When it’s really the fault of the greedy american corporate types, who are maximizing their profit margins, at the cost of the public’s safety. I’ll bet that “Funtastic of Houston” will get reimbursted by the government for this recall. After all, it’s not their fault, it’s the Chinese’s.
