Yup, my career’s going down the tubes!

U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis, a Hebron Republican, compared Obama and his message for change similar to a “snake oil salesman” [at a Northern Kentucky Lincoln Day dinner].

He said in his remarks at the GOP dinner that he also recently participated in a “highly classified, national security simulation” with Obama.

“I’m going to tell you something: That boy’s finger does not need to be on the button,” Davis said. “He could not make a decision in that simulation that related to a nuclear threat to this country.”

An aide to Davis, Jeremy Hughes, declined to comment on the remark, and didn’t dispute the accuracy of the quote.

Update: The apology. ‘A poor choice of words’

  1. Improbus says:

“I’m going to tell you something: That boy’s finger does not need to be on the button,” Davis said.

Yeah, look who’s finger is on the button now. Do you feel safer? Go back under your rock Congressman Davis.

  2. J says:

he didn’t say anything wrong, get over it people.

  3. GigG says:

While the term “Boy” may or may not have meant to be racist it was a stupid phrase to use.

Publicizing what was said or learned in a “highly classified, national security simulation” is even more stupid and should let you know why the intelligence and military communities don’t like to tell Congress critters anything that isn’t supposed to be public knowledge.

That said, I have to wonder what the hell Obama was doing even being invloved in such a simulation? Unless it was long ago when he wasn’t in the Presidental race. (And when wasn’t he?) It is a horrible breach of protocol for either a sitting president or someone running for the office to take part in one of these.

  4. Dallas says:

What do you expect from a fucking Republican?
    Ignore them all.

    Here’s more important news..

Crude oil prices rose to a new record high above $113 a barrel Tuesday as the U.S. dollar weakened further against the euro.

  5. jbenson2 says:

It’s terrible to use the word “boy”, but all the lefties hear is the chirping of crickets when the O-man says:

Vote For Me, You Snake-handling, Backwoods, Gun-toting, Corncob-Smokin’, Banjo-Strokin’ Chicken-Chokin’, Cousin-Pokin’, Inbred, One-toothed Hayseed, Homophobic, Hillbilly Racist Morons.

  6. Mister Mustard says:

    >>Vote for me, you
    >>Snake-handling, Backwoods, Gun-toting,
    >>Corncob-Smokin’, Banjo-Strokin’
    >>Chicken-Chokin’, Cousin-Pokin’, Inbred,
    >>One-toothed Hayseed, Homophobic,
    >>Hillbilly Racist Morons.

So. Are you going to vote for him, jbenson2???

  7. jbenson2 says:

So. Are you going to vote for him, jbenson2?

Hell no! I’m holding out for person with more class and dignity. A person who does not use racist words like “boy”.

I’m hoping for Jeremiah Wright to join the Presidential election as a late entry.

  8. I’m sure that Obama was not personally involved. These can be done on a computer using personality profiles. It’sot that hard to piece together your personality nowadays based on what you say, what you read, how you dress, what you do, etc. I’m concerned that his robot-like elocution is going to wear thin by November.

  9. Oh wait. I’m not “concerned.” I’m betting against him anyway! 🙂

  10. J says:

    # 3 J

Mister Mustard was that you pretending to be me?

I am surprised you havent jumped up on a stump and said that the term “boy” isn’t racist because Obma is a young male. Where is that racist Mr. Mustard we all know?

  11. Ah_Yea says:

Scary in more ways than one.

If Davis is to be taken at face value (an ‘if’, admittedly) then Obama was personally involved in this simulation and didn’t show the depth of judgment that the simulation required.

“He could not make a decision in that simulation that related to a nuclear threat to this country.”

This doesn’t sound like a computer personality profile to me, but live participation by Obama. Given that Davis isn’t backing off, (except for using the word ‘boy’), He seems almost wanting to get into a fight over it.

Obama, smartly, isn’t taking the bait. It sounds to me that Davis has something in his back pocket to back up his words.

Now the question is, what if Davis is right? What does he know that we should know?

  12. Mr. Catshit says:

The guy’s a wing nut. What did you expect. Wing nuts don’t need facts to shoot off their mouths. Just look at our very own jbenson2, gq, and Hmeyer. They excel in baseless and ad hominem attacks.

  13. Steve-O says:

#6 Mister Mustard – “So. Are you going to vote for him, jbenson2???”

I voted for Obomba in the primaries. I think The Bitch will be easier to beat in November.

  14. pat says:

#13 – “They excel in baseless and ad hominem attacks.”

Like, “they cling to guns, religion & being fearful of immigrants”? I don’t think either party has a monopoly on mindless comments not backed by facts.

Also, there is no reason for anyone to distance themselves from a racist. It’d be like denouncing your uncle, or something…

  15. bobbo says:

#12–AH Yea==so, some repukelican says a completely vague non specific complaint in violation of national security laws about the democratic front runner and you want to give it any credibility at all as to what might be backing it up?

    Pretty foolish.

Given the history to date, the damning critique is most likely that Obama did not immediately nuke Iran when a truck went thru a barracade.

    Are you gullible, hopeful, bored?

  16. J says:

    # 15 pat

“they cling to guns, religion & being fearful of immigrants”?

Well he has your number doesn’t he?

  17. pat says:

#17 – LOL. When confronted by the truth, attack the messenger. ROFL!

  18. bobbo says:

Yea Pat #15–do you really think that comment from Obama is “baseless” or do you actually only disagree with it?

What is the most appropriate reaction to losing your job, general employment being switched from manufacturing to flipping burgers, losing your healthcare and retirement? I guess like Hilary and McCain, they should be hopeful?

Don’t you see the pap you are being fed? If everything is hopeful, then the politicians don’t really have to do anything except “fight for you.”

    Stooge.

  19. Sea Lawyer says:

What will we do when we no longer have silly things to be offended by? Funny how selective it all is too; people gasp when the term “tar baby” is used in reference to a sticky situation (which is the context in the original Uncle Remus tale) yet nobody even cares or thinks about using terms like “cakewalk,” which have their own historical meaning.

    Stupid.

  20. pat says:

#19 “Don’t you see the pap you are being fed? If everything is hopeful, then the politicians don’t really have to do anything except “fight for you.”
    Stooge.”

Both “sides” feed you “pap”. A stooge is someone who falls for either one. Stooge? Look in the mirror. LOL

  21. Dallas says:

I was wondering why this Peewee Herman looking republican looked so ugly. He’s from Kentucky!

A triple play – An ugly, republican from Kentucky. Gee, I wonder what comes out of his mouth?

  22. bobbo says:

#21–pat==correct initially. Both sides do feed pap. THAT is what Obama is trying to avoid doing. Maybe he didn’t do that well, this time, and maybe there is much pap in everything a candidate for office does, BUT in this case, this quote, the important point is that it was NOT BASELESS.

Think about it a bit more deeply.

  23. pat says:

#23 – “BUT in this case, this quote, the important point is that it was NOT BASELESS.”

Cool. Site the study he was basing this on for rural Pennsylvania. I’d be interested.

  24. When someone apologizes too quickly, does it mean that they planned the mistake and its apology knowing that the apology would never get the level of airplay that the uber-stupid commend would and that the damage would already be done?

May Davis get what he deserves, and quickly.

As for whether Obama’s figurative finger should be on the equally figurative button, I’d rather have his there than someone who can’t even pronounce the word nuclear.

  25. bobbo says:

#24–now Pat== you say “Cool. Site the study he was basing this on for rural Pennsylvania. I’d be interested.”

I could look up all sorts of sites for you but it all would remain “argumentative.”

In the alternative, I will only ask you again to think more deeply about it.

  26. Rich says:

“Boy” could refer to either his race or his youthful appearance. Obama does look about seventeen years old. Why do so many people here assume it was meant to be racist? Maybe they think along racist lines and made an assumption about Rep. Davis’ intentions.

  27. J says:

    # 27 Rich

You sound like you are using one of Mister Mustards old arguments.

  28. pat says:

#26 – “I could look up all sorts of sites for you but it all would remain “argumentative.””

In short, you have nothing to back up your claim that his comment “wasn’t baseless”. Thanks. 😉

  29. Hmeyers says:

Racist Kentunky rats. Only in Kentunky could someone like this get elected.

You think this guy won’t get re-elected? Think again.

  30. Hmeyers says:

    @#13 Mr. Catshit

Looks like Mr. Catshit is still “angry and bitter” and clinging to guns and religion and not liking people different than himself.
