There was a DJ at the radio station at which I worked that was always bragging about his home sound system. Bandwidth was his big goal. If it wasn’t flat to 20KHz it was trash.
One day he walked into the shop looking stunned. He said a doctor had just informed him that he was deaf above 5KHz. I regret to say I laughed.
DJs always had the headset levels set to painful levels for most people.
I read an article that explained why they ran the level so high. They wanted to hear their voice as it sounded on air. To do that they would try to swamp out bone conduction. It cost them. The DJ with the 5KHz ears was in his mid twentys.
About Xcor. My goal in life is to make a ton of money, then risk everything for a 30 minute joyride!
I’ve got the perfect in-flight movie. Titanic!
John, there were other privacy issues up here in regards to American law enforcement, but in this case it was communication satellites by MacDet (and must have been 10 years ago). Unless back doors were installed into each bird, they could not carry any US based telco signals. I am sure we just rolled over on that one.
I liked the good old days. Back when the US could not spy on their citizens, so they paid the Canadians to do it (who in turn paid the Brits to do the same in a daisy chain of spying.

Well, I’ve DJ’d since 1977, and had very little hearing loss (o’course, I also wasn’t drafted back in the 70’s because of hearing loss from my band). However, my midrange hearing (where most voices, etc. are) sux. Yeah, it’s kinda difficult to hear your own voice via the headphones, and I have problems when the voice and music on spots (commercials) are too close to equivalent.
