Elizabeth Banks cast as Laura Bush

Oliver Stone, who has made films about the assassination of John F. Kennedy and the presidency of Richard Nixon, will next turn his attention to George W. Bush.

Josh Brolin is attached to play the president in the project, titled “Bush.”

Stone is looking to secure financing for a script by Stanley Weiser, who co-wrote “Wall Street” with Stone and who also penned the 2003 telefilm “Rudy: The Rudy Giulianai Story.” Stone hopes to begin production on “Bush” as early as the spring in order to release the film by the fall election. But securing financing in the midst of an election cycle in which even the Republican candidates for the presidency are distancing themselves from Bush could present a challenge if the film is to be completed before Bush fades from the scene. Moritz Borman, who served as a producer on both Stone’s “Alexander” and “World Trade Center,” and John Kilik, another of “Alexander’s” producers, are on board to produce.

Kilik also was to have produced Stone’s My Lai massacre film “Pinkville,” which United Artists put on hold in November, citing the need for further script revisions, though skeptics also suggested that the company lost confidence in the politically themed project after the boxoffice failure of “Lions for Lambs.”

We’ll let the readers comment on their choice for the lead role, or offer alternative suggestions.

  1. Cheeta is still alive. Unfortunately though, he’s probably retired now. Besides, he can probably do too good a job of pronouncing “nuclear”.

  2. doug says:

who were the guys in “Dumb and Dumber”? although they could fear being typecast.

  3. Ah_Yea says:

I hope Stone doesn’t do the hatchet job with Bush like he has done previously with other political figures.

The reason isn’t because I’m a blind Bush supporter, it’s because Stone’s previous political movies have been just as conspiratorial as the rest of the tin foil hat crowd, and just as credible.

Showing Bush/Cheney in light of a tin foil hat conspiracy is only going to paint the opponents of Bush as a bunch of crazies while overshadowing any real discussion of what really was wrong with the Bush Presidency. Watch him delve into crazy theories when simple boring ineptitude is the answer.

Anyways, if he wanted to do a really entertaining movie, he should do the Clinton Presidency!

Sex, Lies, and Videotape! (Well, maybe not videotape.)

  4. floyd says:

    Alfred E. Neuman as Dubya.

  5. Ah_Yea says:

    I vote for Cheeta!

  6. Carcarius says:

    Greg Kinnear

  7. Brian says:

4-Yes, because movies like ‘Platoon’ are real turds. There’s no excuse for ignorance, and you saying you won’t see a film because a producer, before ANY material is shot, is just ignorant.

  8. Cursor_ says:

    Oh cmon.

    Isn’t obvious who should???

    Colbert!

    Damn people think!

    Cursor_

  9. RTaylor says:

Doesn’t surprise me. People will always stop and gawk at a bad wreck. As far as who should star in it, too bad the Three Stooges are dead. Moe would have been perfect.

  10. Daniel says:

    Is Bobo the Chimp available?

  11. TheGlobalWarmer says:

Being a Stone movie it will definitely muddy the debate.

Actually though, compared to Gore, Kerry, Hillary and Obama, God should play Bush. And that’s even factoring in all the mistakes the Bush administration has made.

Keep in mind that none of it matters anyway – after Nov. we’re all doomed. Enjoy life while you can.

  12. Ah_Yea says:

Did you catch this about the costar?
“Elizabeth Banks is going from the world of adult films to the White House.
The actress, who recently wrapped shooting Kevin Smith’s “Zack and Miri Make a Porno,” is in final negotiations to portray Laura Bush in “W,” Oliver Stone’s biopic on the life and presidency of George W. Bush.”

I’m sure this movie will be very well received.

  13. jbenson2 says:

Another Stone bomb movie in the works. Does he like to throw his money down the drain?

  14. Dallas says:

I won’t see it either – I’m trying to forget that SOB. Since Bush sheep won’t see it either, it eems like a waste of time & money for a brilliant director.

I’d rather see a movie on a more interesting tyrant like Fidel Castro.

  15. Calin says:

As far as I know, Banks was never in an “adult” film. She was in 40 year old Virgin and Seabiscuit.

I guess just because the word “Porno” is in the title of her most recent work she’s all of a sudden a porn star? Hell, Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) is the lead in that flick….God I hope we don’t see him up close and personal.

  16. Rabble Rouser says:

Any actor playing Bush would die from asphyxiation, from having his head shoved up his ass for such a long period of time.

  17. Ah_Yea says:

I would act actually be interested in a factual movie about Fidel Castro. I don’t like the guy or what he has done, but you’ve got to admit, he has made his mark.

Maybe Oliver Stone should do this film with “Sugar Daddy” Chavez to fund him!

  18. pat says:

#19 – If Stone did one on Castro it wouldn’t be accurate at all. But, Castro (despite being a vicious tyrant) had an interesting early life.

  19. jcunwired says:

Nick Nolte! I’m thinking that mugshot posted everywhere of him looks just disheveled enough to portray Bush.

  20. RBG says:

How can this be anything but Oliver Stone’s attempt to influence an election?

    RBG

  21. Colonel Panic says:

#22. Yeah, he’s trying to make Bush look bad. Imagine.
