Manatee County

MANATEE COUNTY – Prosecutors are moving ahead with a case against one of two 93-year-old men picked up during undercover prostitution stings. In the case of Frank Milio, prosecutors have issued subpoenas and plan to take him to trial in April. Milio, according to police records, tried to pay $20 in November to an undercover officer on 14th Street West. Milio recently told the Herald-Tribune he was only flirting with the woman. “I haven’t had that in years,” he said. “Ninety-three is kind of old.”

Carlos Underhill, 93, will not be charged, although he does not deny stopping to chat with the “good-looking girl” who made eyes at him and turned out to be an undercover officer. Police say Underhill was willing to pay $30 for sex and that he promised to come back a few hours later to consummate the deal. Prosecutors say that they cannot move ahead with the criminal case because there is no way to prove Underhill planned to come back. Underhill was fined $150 for trying to pick up a prostitute in 1990, when he was 75. In the latest case, he says, he was not cruising Tamiami Trail for sex: He just wanted to chat with the buxom woman who smiled at him as he drove past. “All I was going to do was talk,” he said Monday. “It wasn’t for sex. I am 93, you know.”

Now that all soft crime in Florida has been solved, we need to concentrate on the “hardened” criminals.

  1. Improbus says:

Florida has an inexhaustible supply of Stupid.

  2. bobbo says:

    Stupid?

I look forward (and find it encouraging) to being 93yo and still interested in the opposite sex, if not sex itself?

Almost makes me want to stay healthy.

  3. ghm101 says:

If I get a vice conviction of any kind when I am 93 I would be exceedingly pleased with myself.

  4. Paul says:

What are they going to do put a walker bracelet on him? What are they doing a stake out at a nursing home? What is this program: stalkers with walkers?

    Jeepers, get a life.

  5. Digitarius says:

    Hee Hee, “hardened” criminals.

I see what you did there.

  6. Improbus says:

    @Bobbo

    Stupid?

I was, of course, referring to the politicians, judges, lawyers and law enforcement of the great state of Florida not Frank Milio. I salute that fellow.

  7. bobbo says:

#6–Hey Improbus==I did take it wrongly, thanks for the clarification for some of us “too stupid” to be on the same wavelength.

OTOH–should there be any kind of “understood” exemption for old folks? Seems they already keep their drivers licenses far longer than any “real” drivers test would allow==but drive so infrequently, their skills don’t get reflected in the statistics?

Yes, Soliciting for Prostitution should have a cut-off (sic) date. Over xx years old, if you can withstand the heckling of the pro’s–go for it.

  8. Ah_Yea says:

These guys should get a medal and a TV spot on “how to stay young!”

  9. Coffee Dood says:

Poor old coots. I think giving them a medal is a bit much. The cop should have just let them know that they were about to be busted and tell them to be more careful. At 93, they are still subject to the law, but what do they care what people think. Getting on John TV would be more of a badge of honor… “Carlos look! You are on TV again!!!”

  10. The Monster's Lawyer says:

I hope he gets a stiff sentence.

  11. morram says:

The undercover prostitution sting operation was a success and used in the next day’s briefing to rebuff the 911 call log of thirtyseven domestic violence, four rapes, six muggings, two armed robberies, twelve car jackings and two child abductions calls all at the same time and within a six block area of the undercover prostitution sting.

  12. BertDawg says:

Too many GD laws. That should be nobody’s business but the two consenting adults. Certainly it should NOT be any of the government’s dang business.

Why can’t people see that laws like these are just taxes in disguise? Because the overwhelming majority of our fellow citizens are way too obtuse to understand the inverse relationship between laws and freedom, much less figure out what laws we actually need.

  13. McCullough says:

I’ve been wondering what I could get Grandpa for his birthday…now I know.

  14. wtaguy says:

Gramdpa will love you. Grandma on the otherhand…

  15. sadtruth says:

When I glanced at this article, I thought MANATEEs were involved. *shudders*

  16. Glenn E. says:

They always need a “soft crimes” division, for the primadonnas to work. That also goes for the US border guards. They started beefing that up, when the Iraq War threatened to ensnare the youth of privileged wealth. They would much rather cool their heels down south, than fight the armed insurgence overseas. So like George Bush himself once did, they’ve become part of the softer military mission. To stop those half-starved mexicans from getting a job in the US.
