Herald Sun – March 20, 2008:
DEPRESSED women have more sex than those who are happier, regardless of whether they are in a relationship or not, a study of Australians has found.
A survey of Melbourne women presented at an international mental health conference has concluded that females who suffer from mild to moderate depression have a third more sexual activity than those who are not.
|
They also had more sexually liberated attitudes, a bigger variety of sexual experiences and, if single, were more likely to partake in casual sex, Dr Sabura Allen, a clinical psychologist at Monash University, said.
“It was more sex and more of everything from kissing to petting, foreplay and intercourse,” said Dr Allen, who studied the recent sexual experiences of 107 depressed and non-depressed women who were in relationships.
“We knew this anecdotally from clinical samples but this is the first time it’s been shown in research.”
She said depressed women were likely seeking out sexual intimacy more often to help feel more secure.
|
But, are they having more sex because they are trying to cope with depression, or are they depressed because they are having more sex and their feeling of self-worth is diminished?
Or are they, like me, depressed because they aren’t having as much sex as they want?
Cause and effect can be very tricky.

Pedro. A deflated blow-up doll doesn’t count.
Eric Kandel once said that depressive people lack the ability to be happy. If that’s the case, it’s only natural that they pursue the things that are normally associated with making you happy. Sex, success, money etc… Maybe someone should come up with a wider study linking depression to social success…
This would explain the manical pursuit of power and money by people who should long have had enough of both.

ps: sorry for not making a juicy comment on this 😉
pj–you said “juicy” and thats close enough.
Dvorak.org/blog targets depressed women. Who cares if she’s happy as long as you get some.
Next week: Tips on where to find those really hot suicidal babes.
Get a grip #7.
A couple years ago I read an article about a study that showed that sperm contained “Stuff” that made women happier. They were able to rule out the sex itself… as there was a definite difference in sex without any type of barrier birth control vs. with.

“#2 although it’s cultural based, your first option is dominant. But is not like they’re having more sex, they’re more likely to have sex with.”
Once again pedro pretends to know something by presenting his ignorance on a topic.
“#4 Sonny, the definition of sex is not what Bubba Clinton defined. ”
I know. That’s why I thought I would point out to you that a deflated blow-up doll is not the same as a depressed woman.
“#5 Actors are a nice representation of what you said. They need constant attention, so they look for it in any way they can.”
Do you even know any actors? They are like every other group of people. Some are depressed. Some are not. Your media driven belief that “actors” somehow all are driven to their career by mental illness or a need for attention is bullshit.

Someone named Improbus should have appreciated that.
“…A survey of Melbourne women…”
Australia = Whore Island
ask any military man who’s been based on the golden coast.
My new strategy is to depress women to the point where they will have sex with me. I think I used to do this inadvertently, but now I can call it a “strategy” 😉
They are also more likely to engage is vile kinky sex if you know what I mean…

“#11 so you’re no an actor?”
No pedro not anymore. I am a little higher up on the food chain.
# 19 pedro
“#18 what made you change, a visit to a shrink?”
No. I decided to marry an actress and 2 actors in the same household is never a good thing.
@WmDE
Improbus is Latin. Google it.
hmmm…. I’ve often witnessed a discussion here spin off into some completely unexpected corner of the probability universe, but as far as I remember it’s about the first time it has spun so quickly so far from the universal attractor “sex”…
Are you guys ok?
😉

Nothing new.
I recently being a depressed guy not getting any, I looked back at all my experiences, my missed opportunities and at all my “prolific” friends in hope to learn something…
I realized that my friends had lower standards then I did as they were boinking girls that would normally make me feel sorry for them… The girls were pressed, had various problems and were generally unhappy… My small sample tells me they are not just depressed, they were also disillusioned into finding happiness in sex. That is a turn off…. but some don’t care
#21 Just back from Google now.
improbus inferior, bad, wicked, persistent, perverse, bold
improbus outrageous, self-willed, impudent
I also found a translation of “mons improbus” as “huge mountain” so I am confused now.
Glad I just went with my initials.
@WmDE
If I had a gold star I would give it to you. 🙂 I thought that improbus was a Latin word that really fit my personality. Plus it is fairly certain that the user name isn’t taken when I sign up at a new web site.
They’d really be depressed after I didn’t call them back. BTW, I was kicked in the improbus once.
#2… Do you get more or do you get less self worth with sex? I the answer is less, then maybe you’re having bad sex.
#2 and #28: I’m not sure about the relationship between sex and self worth, but there’s a clear relationship between bad sex and getting depressed. Maybe men in Melbourne are just rotten lays?
GUYS GO AFTER DEPRESSED WOMEN FOR SEX? ARE YOU KIDDING ME????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
