From one of the commenters, a reader says this:
This is the Perito Moreno Glacias, in Calafte, Argentina. Its one of the only active glaciers in the world. This means that the glacier collapses and it builds itself back again. This glacier its between two lakes that connect to each other. When the glacier blocks the connection between the two lakes, the water in one lake rises. Then the water pressure causes the collapse of the glaciar.
Someone else mentioned that this is a four year cycle although nowadays it will be attributed to global warming.
No, John. We know the difference. Stop watching Fox News and your IQ will go back to normal.

One of the only?
I suppose it is asking too much for people to just enjoy an interesting natural phenomenon without bringing politics into it.
Speaking of science, I just recalled YESTERDAY was pie day. Thats March 14th or 3.14, notable also as Einsteins Birthday.
Should be an international holiday for several reasons?
Hope to see that next year on DU?
Thomas, you must be new here.
As the reader board at the Baptist church said “Reason is the greatest enemy that faith has” – I guess on this blog we’ll have to add science to that as well.
Talk about large carbon foot print.. Have you seen Leo Laporte’s new big desk! Does John have one that big ??
That’s cool how it forms the bridge over the river.
Looks like that glacier will always be melting as fast as it flows into the river of above freezing water.
Don
This reminds me of a show on some glacier in N.A. I was watching with my kids. The host was walking on some glacier and said that it’d be melted in a couple of years and would expose 2ooo’ more of some valley.
The person with him then mentioned that 5000 years ago there were no glacier in that area or most of the currently glaciated parts of the world. Global warming. Like now.
