At a cost of nearly $42 million, the IRS wants you to know: Your check is almost in the mail.
The Internal Revenue Service is spending the money on letters to alert taxpayers to expect rebate checks as part of the economic stimulus plan.
The notices are going out this month to an estimated 130 million households who filed returns for the 2006 tax year, at a cost $41.8 million.

A United States Postal Service Stimulus Plan? Although, I don’t think that dead horse is prone to being stimulated.
So, just over $3US for each letter sent. Someone should get the IRS an EZ button from Staples. I bet they could save a bunch of money buying the following in bulk. – stamps(bulk postage), paper, ink and envelopes.
Why not use my email address I used to submit my tax returns?

What they fail to mention is that its tough for a $$$ trickle to trickle down over/past an always-thirsty $$$ sponge.
It includes a BUSH political announcement of just how fucking fabulous the republicans are the coming rebate checks.
This is just another criminal abuse of tax payer money by the Bush administration to get the GOP elected.

Your check is in the mail. Thanks to us republicans, and especially me, George, we will give you free money! Yes, we printed lots of these. Please buy something with it to prop up the economy till next year. The last thing I need is to have those liberals add Depression to my long list of fuck ups. Y’all take care.

It’s more likely a costly venture to show the public how caring the Republican Party is for the Fall. The Democrats couldn’t stop it because they would look bad. More election year bullshit. The government has little control over economic cycles.
What I want to know is how someone that pays no taxes can get a “rebate” of those taxes and it be >than $0?
I did not have the knowing of this thing (was, what, 12, then?).
I did learn a new word, however.

Why would the USPS Charge the IRS? Don’t they work for the same team?
Imagine you were deep in debt and this got you depressed. So you go out and borrow money from someone who up til a few years ago was a sworn enemy. Then you make yourself wait to spend it because you want to be sure you know you’re going to have something to spend.
Somehow I fail to see the sense in this. Sounds like the plot to a three stooges movie. Yeah! Curly Fine for president!
There actually might be a point to this. In my business, we occasionally send out checks to folks to whom we usually only send one mailing a year. The number of bad addresses, deaths, etc. is amazing. And it is far easier to get those things straightened out before you send an actual check. Once the check gets lost or misdirected, it takes a lot of man hours to get things straightened out.
Don’t you mean our “loans?” After all, this is all they are. We will have to pay the price for the frivolous spending of this administration until our great-grandchildren are dead.
Trickle-Down Economy:
If you lay in the gutter long enough, someone will come along and trickle down on you.

The USPS is an independent entity of the Executive Branch. It operates, or at least, suppose to operate like any other private/corporate business. Government agencies pays like anyone else, or any other bulk mail client.
Not the first time the GOP has decided to waste money telling the taxpayer how wonderful the party is.
Sure the economy is in the toilet….again, but here’s $300.
