This is a demonstration of the stereo effect. Listening to it, you feel as though you are in a barber’s chair, with the barber moving around you, clipping away at your hair. As the barber “moves” to your right, the volume increases slightly in the right channel and decreases in the left. Similarly, increases in the volume of sound from the clippers give the impression that he is bringing them closer and closer to each ear. The illusion demonstrates our ability to locate sounds in space; by comparing the inputs to the two ears, we can work out where a sound is coming from.

Use headphones for the effect, listen to the others here.

I’ve been listening to those kinds of stereo soundstage images for years from my vinyl record collection, very good speakers and vacuum tube amps and pre-amps. That’s the first time I have heard a good stereo soundstage from a digital source.

It’s a pity the best digital productions rarely produce even 10% of the soundstage available on many good well produced vinyl recordings.

    Stupid…

  3. Mike says:

    You are kidding, right?

Have you never heard a stereo demonstration before?

I have a marvelous invention called the “automobile” that I can show you, if you’ve never seen that before.

  4. Andy says:

Well, the actual content is pretty stupid, yes. A couple of guys with really bad fake accents, but the effect is really pretty cool if you ask me. Great example of how we can mentally position audio simply by the cues our brain picks up on. Close your eyes, and you can really tell how far behind you and to the left the second guy is when he answers the phone, even while the first guy is talking to you.

Not as STUPID! as you JPV

  7. Professor Johnnycakes says:

Got weird when the Barber started massaging my shoulders.

  8. booshtukka says:

    I concur.

  9. personality says:

This doesn’t work worth crap on my Scitec SSF-512!

  10. audiophile says:

Its called binaural not stereo. Its made only for headphones. Its been around for years, this must have been the latest and greatest iteration.

  11. Ron Larson says:

I heard about a guy who does this type of recordings while doing the rides at Disneyland. I apparently makes it sound like you are really there.
