Andrew Horowitz of the Disciplined Investor showed me this vid nearly a month ago and I thought it was mildly amusing until I began to hear about Yahoo and AOL talking about a merger. Here he overlays the two websites. Except for the logo, they are the same layout.

  1. Ah_Yea says:

Plagiarism is alive and well in the web community. You can bet it was AOL “borrowing” from Yahoo!

If AOL can do it, then why doesn’t Microsoft just spend, say, only 22.3 billion doing the same?

  2. Les says:

    Google!

  3. Lou Minatti says:

Who uses AOL besides our grandmothers?

Yahoo! has some good financial stuff, but most of their offerings are junk. Compare Yahoo! mail to Gmail and you’ll see that Google is good at filtering the spam. Yahoo is horrible.

So we’re left with two lumps of poo. Smooshing them together just makes a bigger pile of poo.

  4. chuck says:

“makes a bigger pile of poo.”

I think that’s Microhoo’s new marketing slogan for Vista.

  5. Esteban says:

    John,

You ran this story last month:

    http://www.dvorak.org/blog/?p=16035

    That said, it is uncanny.

  6. tcc3 says:

I see the Vista haters are getting so desperate that they’re hijacking unlrelated threads.

Quick! no ones bad mouthed vista in the Clinic contamination story yet!

  7. Heimdall says:

Having worked at AOL – though not involved at all with the AOL home page – I can pretty much guarantee that AOL simply copied from Yahoo! simply because that’s how they do things.

  8. jim h says:

What an astounding lack of creativity. All those megabucks spent on top technical talent, and they end up with identical canned-looking sites. They should add cubicle walls as a background image.

Don’t expect MS to change anything for the better if they buy Yahoo.

  9. RTaylor says:

AT&T’s home page uses Yahoo content. It must be a contract deal.

  10. Sundar says:

I “discovered” this way back on Aug 17, 2007. ( http://enkirukkal.blogspot.com/2007/08/blatant-rip-off.html ) It’s AOL copying Yahoo’s site as Yahoo! launched this layout earlier.
