I walk into the house an hour ago – make a cup of tea – click on the TV and sit down to check out the day’s news. And this is what I see:
A person who shot 13 people Thursday at Northern Illinois University’s DeKalb campus outside Chicago has died, local reports said.
Most of the 13 wounded were shot in the head, said Theresa Comitas, spokeswoman for Kishwaukee Community Hospital, located about 10 minutes from the school…
A woman named Corrine described the scene to CLTV, saying she was “carried out” of Cole Hall by a “wave” of students running for their lives.
“When one of the kids said, ‘This guy is shooting!’ I just ran to the next building as fast as I could and hid in an empty classroom.”

The good news is that none of the kids shot were killed. Some are pretty critical; but, the only one dead, so far, is the wingnut who committed suicide after shooting 17 people.
Looks like the university staff had a plan in hand – and implementation by the police and univ. staff was swift and well-trained.
That doesn’t address the question Eid offered up in the headline. Societal self-immolation ain’t nothing new. We’re just the latest. I’m certain we’ll do a better of job of killing ourselves off than those who passed before.

The other day on this blog was a post, that we all should wonder what life would be like without God.
Well this is the answer.
When you teach kids that they are animals evolved from other animals, why act surprised when they act like animals.

Well… I see no one gives a rat’s ass about this tragedy. It’s just a handy jumping off point for another stupid thread about guns.
Guns are about the least important issue facing us to today. If guns were illegal, this kid could still get a gun. If everyone had a gun, you’d still get you asses kicked if the right wing extremist fantasy/nightmare of having to fight off a corrupt government happened.

You need guns to get hard… whatever… have all the guns you want. I don’t care one way or another.

That’s the exception, NOT the rule. How many times do you hear about mass shooters being stopped in their tracks?
Guns are used for legitimate (non-police related) self-defense purposes in an infinitesimally negligible number of cases.
