Hillary will win the primary against Obama. Despite the fact that Obama won five states last Saturday, is pulling in more money, and is gaining momentum, Hillary still has huge wins in Florida and Michigan in her back pocket. I know what you’re saying: The DNC are keeping those delegates out. And heck, it wouldn’t be fair because Obama’s name was not even on the ballot in Michigan, right? Wrong.

If needed it will happen. She started laying the groundwork last month:

“I hear all the time from people in Florida and Michigan that they want their voices heard in selecting the Democratic nominee,” the New York senator said in a statement. “I believe our nominee will need the enthusiastic support of Democrats in these states to win the general election, and so I will ask my Democratic convention delegates to support seating the delegations from Florida and Michigan.”

Or how about this tidbit,

“the state (Florida) party is going ahead with congressional-district caucuses on March 1 to pick the people it plans to send to Denver next summer.”

Why would Florida do that unless there was at least a small chance those delegates were going?

So even if Obama does get more legitimate delegates, Hillary will ensure that those from Florida and Michigan are allowed in, killing his chances. In fact, this whole thing could have been a set-up to begin with. Why else did she keep her name on the Michigan ballot unless she knew it’d come into play later? She’s essentially playing poker with cards up her sleeves.

And don’t even get me started on how she’s using her daughter to influence the super delegates and playing the race card to destroy Obama’s chances among white and Hispanics.

  1. Cinaedh says:

So, dog bites man. What’s your point?

  2. bobbo says:

She can get away with pimping her daughter out AND with failing to stop Bill from pimping himself out, but she should give some thought to the rank and file democrat. They aren’t knee jerk brain dead ditto head bushies. I don’t think she could win the general if she pulled that trick.

The fact that she did indeed lay the ground work for it is just business as needed and further evidence why she shouldn’t be nominated in the first place.

Too bad. She would be a good candidate if she was ethical==even by loose standards of today’s politicians.

  3. mperkel says:

Obama is the racist here. I’m getting tired of Obama talking about the Clintons like Republicans talk about them. Obama keep plating the race card and is running a dirty campaign.

  4. mperkel says:

Also – if Michigan and Florida are silenced my Obama in the primary do you think that those people will vote for him in the general election? I don’t think so.

  5. bobbo says:

Mperkel–so you don’t want to play by the rules eh? Sounds like a repug to me. Everybody should follow the rules until you find an advantage either by willful violation of law or by specially legislated exemption.

So clever to set up a set of rules and then be “outraged” anybody would follow them. Dolt.

  6. JPV says:

Give me a break. You guys are delusional.

If Hillary tries to pull a stunt like this, the only fair thing to do would be to redo the elections in those states, with Obama on the ballots.

    Face it… she’s toast.

Anyway, Obama WILL get the nomination and WILL also lose to McCain. That is, if another major terrorist attack doesn’t cause Bush to suspend the elections… LOL.

  7. Sean O'Hara says:

@#4: Michigan was silenced by the national party because the state party defied them. Clinton was the only candidate on the ballot — Obama played by party rules and stayed out of the state. To let the results count is cheating at the most basic level. If Michigan wants their state to have a say at the convention, they should hold a caucus in which people can vote for Obama.

  8. JPV says:

“In fact, this whole thing could have been a set-up to begin with. Why else did she keep her name on the Michigan ballot unless she knew it’d come into play later? She’s essentially playing poker with cards up her sleeves.”

Yeah, just the kind of underhanded behavior we want in a President.

    Way to go moron.

  9. JPV says:

I see that your Visu poll has Obama at 59.1% and Hillary at 40.9%. LOL!

Edwards was the only real chance that Dems had anyway, and they blew it. Neither Obama nor Hillary will win against McCain… just wait and see.

  10. Hmeyers says:

There isn’t any way Hillary can win the Democratic nomination that wouldn’t destroy the Democratic party. If she won Bush v. Gore style, she’d break the party and her support would be nil.

It’s going to be Obama in 2008.

  11. Cinaedh says:

Excuse me for pointing this out but the entire world is going to think Americans are either certifiably insane – or stupid beyond all belief – if they re-elect a person who represents the exact same political party as George W. Bush.

  12. JPV says:

Errr, I have news for you…

Americans ARE stupid beyond all belief!

    LOL!

  13. JPV says:

As an example… how about morons like you that are actually STUPID enough to believe that here is any difference between the two parties.

BTW, how many times has this Democratic controlled Congress sided with Bush again? They just sided with him on the Telecom immunity yesterday.

LOL… wake-up from your slumber already. It’s not about the Republicans vs. the Democrats, it’s about the “haves” vs. the “have-nots”.

Here’s a clue… ALL the politicians are “haves”.

  14. Longboxes says:

This is how I see it…

In 2000, Democrats screamed that Bush & Company “stole the election”. But now, if Clinton fights to get these votes counted (and succeeds), after she already agreed to play according to the parties rules, and if the delegates from the state where Obama wasn’t on the ballot push her over the top and get her the nomination, well then, she, like Bush, will have stolen the election (or at least the nomination).

Sorry, that’s long winded, poorly written and not all that thought out, but I hope it makes sense. This was just the first thing that popped into my head when I first read about her wanting to have the “uncountable” votes counted.

Does anyone know, can these states legally hold a new election? Can they have a “do over” where both candidates are on the ballot? Just curious if any one knows the legalities of the situation here. Thanks.

“As an example… how about morons like you that are actually STUPID enough to believe that here is any difference between the two parties.”

Well, there’s an entrée to a civilized discussion if I ever saw one.

I tend to agree if you’re a mouse, it doesn’t matter whether you get eaten by a house cat or an alley cat but perhaps the alley cat will torture you first and the house cat will simply execute you.

It’s true, either way the mouse is dead but there is a slight, quality of life and death difference there if you look at it long enough and closely enough…

…or you could just call people names and avoid thinking at all, responding with knee-jerk responses you heard on the TV last night.

  16. Raster says:

They’re called “delegates” for a reason. While we might not like archaic hold-overs like the electoral college (e.g.: anybody remember this Gore guy that won the popular vote, but lost the election?), that’s the way it is.

Oh yeah, “and don’t get me started” about how it’s really common to have your family help in your political campaign, and also what a hack Frank Rich is and his so-called “race card”:

  17. Li says:

If Hillary pulls that stunt, she’ll create such disgust that said action will be handing the country to McCain, and the endless wars and destruction that kook has planned for the world will be as much on her hands as his.

  18. TheGlobalWarmingNemesis says:

It’s interesting how the Dems are the “party of the people”, but they themselves have the Superdelegates handy for the party to override the voters in case the voters don’t vote the correct way.

I think Hillary will try the Reverse-Gore Maneuver because she is power mad and if she doesn’t get presidency she deserves, there’s nothing left for her (or Bill).

#9 – McCain beats Hillary but gets steamrolled by Obama. Age, change, whatever – Obama’s riding a wave of personality cult.

  19. echeola says:

Wow, if she pulls this it would destroy the Democratic Party. I think she would see her support bottom out. This is really the only way for the Dems to lose to McCain.

  20. mastmar221 says:

Ok, so apperantly people don’t pay attention to the details. One the reason that the delegates won’t count is that the states moved their primaries forward in time. There is no law saying that they cannot hold primaries now, and absolutely no reason why the new delegate allocation wouldn’t be able to go to the national convention.

Keep in mind the overwelming growth in strenght that Obama has seen since then, and the fact that Hillary only got 55% of the vote in Michigan when NOBODY else was on the ticket. That’s not exactly an overwelming victory.

If both states do, what would be completely withing hte rules to hold new primaries when they were supposed to or later then all the campaigns would be able to participate. I suspect very different outcomes given these facts. Partner the fact that it’s far quicker and less expensive to have a caucus than an open ballot primary then Obama would likely win those states like he has all other caucus’ save Nevada.

Bring it on Clintonites, your time is over.

  21. zjehnert says:

    Some interesting numbers from realclearpolitics.com.
    Note popular vote w/FL.

Total Delegates: Obama 1272 Hillary 1231
Pledged Delegates: Obama 1116 Hillary 989
Popular Vote: Obama 9,347,707 Hillary 8,648,897
    Popular Vote (w/FL): Obama 9,923,921 Hillary 9,519,883

    Stick a fork in her.

  22. Hmeyers says:

#13 – “As an example… how about morons like you that are actually STUPID enough to believe that here is any difference between the two parties.”

There isn’t a difference between the parties, but there is a difference between Obama and the status quo.

Hillary represents no change from Bush, no change from the elitists. Neither does McCain.

McCain isn’t in touch with issues like poverty, outsourcing, education needs and spends all of his time on MSNBC hanging out with Chris Matthews and living in Washington D.C.

Hillary represents name calling, partisan politics and spends her time talking and thinking about “vast right wing conspiracies” and finding bogeymen to blame.

Obama is possibly the closest thing to a normal person we’ve had for a presidential candidate in a very long time.

  23. MikeN says:

It’s pretty clear Obama will lead in delegates if you keep FL and MI out, and probably even if you include them. He’ll lead by somewhere around 150 delegates. So Hillary only wins if the superdels overturn the popular vote. That shouldn’t be too hard to do since the Hillary will have won all of the big states except Illinois.

  24. MikeN says:

Obama’s the racist? I guess BIll Clinton just innocently picked out the example that Jesse Jackson won the South Carolina primary. He could have mentioned any of the people who won primaries when he ran, Harkin, Tsongas, Jerry Brown, Bob Kerrey, etc.

  25. Yes, because what I want in a leader is someone who can play cheap legalistic games to circumvent the will of the people. Not. I’ve had enough of that recently.

It’s like credit card offers that come in ever more carefully disguised mailings that are made to look like bills you have to open. It makes me thing, “Yeah, just what I want in a lender – someone who can TRICK me!” Not.

  26. James Hill says:

I think it’s funny how poor of a public speaker Chels is, yet people are worked up for her.

  27. MikeN says:

Michigan and Florida weren’t silenced by Obama. They were silenced by New Hampshire and Iowa. And didn’t Hillary promise the voters in New Hampshire that she wouldn’t campaign that she would keep New Hampshire’s status? Why should New Hampshire voters vote for her after she’s stabbed them in the back like that? Why should anyone?

  28. MikeN says:

Nice to see the percolator back pimping Hillary.

  29. RLF says:

    STUPID!
This nation voted for Nixon, Reagan, And W. Bush TWICE! The American people will vote for anybody I
t doesn;t matter if there Paranoid, Senile, or a mental defect.
If Obama is the nominee McCain is a shoe in.

  30. SN says:

“Also – if Michigan and Florida are silenced my (sic) Obama”

God, get a clue. Obama never silenced anyone. Both Florida and Michigan Democratic parties decided to hold their elections earlier to increase their importance. The DNC, not Obama, but the DNC told those states not to take that action. The states did anyway. So the DNC; once again, NOT OBAMA, decided on striping the two states of their delegates as punishment. Obama had nothing to do with it.

Take a little time thinking and reading before smashing your fingers on the keyboard. Thanks.
