No more writers on picket lines. No more network TV bosses scrambling for replacement shows.

But enough about them. What about us?

Two simple questions prey on every viewer’s mind: When will my favorite scripted programs be back with new episodes? And, WILL my favorite shows be back..?

– Many hit series (such as ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” as well as CBS’ “CSI” trio) will be back this spring for what’s left of the current season, with anywhere from four to seven new episodes. But don’t bet on weaker, “on-the-bubble” shows (NBC’s “Bionic Woman” and CBS’ “Moonlight,” for example) returning until fall, if then.

– And be prepared to muster a little more patience. A minimum of four weeks will be needed for producers to get the first post-strike episode of comedies (such as CBS’ “Two and a Half Men” and NBC’s “My Name Is Earl”) started from scratch and back on the air; a drama will require six to eight weeks from concept to broadcast.

I guess I can survive a few more reruns.

    “Your” shows?

  2. the answer says:

Hey Lost is on, and that’s the only show I cared about. Ha what strike?

  3. Al says:

Barf. I didn’t notice any of these shows were gone and I find it hard to believe that anyone would pay to download this junk anyway. But they must, otherwise there wouldn’t have been a strike.

Really – someone would pay to download “My Name is Earl” or “CSI”?

  4. Improbus says:

Personally, I want to see more Big Bang Theory.

  5. amodedoma says:

Personally I think they ought to fire the lot of them. When’s the last time you really enjoyed a film or a series? Hell ya don’t need a PHD to write a film based on a comic strip. From what I’ve seen lately Homer Simpson could do it better.
Or the series that are more like mexican soap operas, and films that try to compensate a weak story with a lot of action and special effects.
I’m sick of it, they keep moaning about piracy when their real problem is they’re not taking creative risks.

  6. Calin says:

I don’t know. I’m enjoying the Terminator series. House is also good.

  7. Sea Lawyer says:

Maybe they can write a show explaining how a fat guy stranded on an island hasn’t lost any weight in 4 seasons.

  8. MikeN says:

It’s only been about 80 days in those four seasons. I wish the Lost writers would stay on strike. That show is garbage.

  9. MikeN says:

So the writers gave up 3 months pay at the wrong time, and in return they get a small percent of internet sales for a few years, which will end up being less than that 3 months pay.

In the meantime, the studios ditched a whole bunch of series which is even less money for the writers. Great going, union!

Next time try striking in August or July.

  10. OvenMaster says:

Way too many people forget that the primary consideration and true customers of the television networks in the US are advertisers. The programs are designed to attract viewers to watch the commecials, not the shows.

  11. Sea Lawyer says:

80 days? Hell, the gay guy who won survivor came out half the size he went in as after only a quarter of that time.

  12. Cursor_ says:

The worst day this year was when they said they ended the strike.

I was hoping it would go for at least another three months.

#5 – Personally I think they ought to fire the lot of them. When’s the last time you really enjoyed a film or a series?

I greatly enjoyed The West Wing and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. My Name is Earl is actually quite clever. I hear good stuff about Big Bang Theory. For reasons I don’t get, people love House. But then, for reasons other people don’t get, I really loved West Wing.

    Battlestar Galactica is brilliant.

If you like one show out of twenty, then the writers are doing a great job.

Taste is a funny thing, and typically a bad thing. I forget who said 90% of everything is crap, but I think he was being generous when he said it. Still, somebody watches Dancing With The Stars and I assume the audience is more than just redneck hicks.

Hell ya don’t need a PHD to write a film based on a comic strip.

Nope… but you need to be smart. And you need to be far more literate than the average person.

From what I’ve seen lately Homer Simpson could do it better.

Well, there was the episode where Homer remade that Mel Gibson movie, so your theory was put to the test 🙂

  14. Uncle Patso says:

Just in case anyone is interested, it looks like there are still six episodes of “Lost” to be aired. So there may be only a brief interruption to the series. On the other hand, most of the other shows mentioned have run out of new episodes, so it may well be March or April before any of them return, and there’s a good chance some of them will just wait until next season.

Disconnected cable a month ago, saving over $1000/year… and don’t miss TV at all… actually feel more alive without the mind numbing dreck that I found myself drooling through. The digital over-the-air looks pretty good for ‘timely’ stuff like news, Netflix has movies without commercials and on-demand. I’ve heard of some peer-to-peer thingie for shows that I might actually miss on cable if networks don’t get their act together and offer next-day on demand.

  16. McCullough says:

#5. “When’s the last time you really enjoyed a film or a series?” I watched an excellent movie called “The Lookout” last nite. Thanks to Netflix, highly recommended. I generally stick to Indie and small budget films. Like Avis, they try harder.

#8. “Maybe they can write a show explaining how a fat guy stranded on an island hasn’t lost any weight in 4 seasons.”

    LOL!

  17. ArianeB says:

Comprehensive list of plans for returning series is here: http://tinyurl.com/ytldet

Most of my favorites, Life, Pushing Daisies, Heroes, and Chuck wont be seen again till September.

Lost will have a 13 episode season this year.

  18. MikeN says:

Actually Homer remade Mr Smith goes to Washington starring Mel Gibson(shooting up Congress.)

BSG seems brilliant if you don’t think too closely. One example, if a group of Marines conducted a rescue operation in Baghdad, and one of the people they rescued was Billy Graham, don’t you think someone on the mission would notice?
Well in the show, that’s what happened.

  19. Mister Catshit says:

    #20, Mike,

As usual, you are having a difficult time differentiating between fiction and fact. As usual. Again.

One program I noticed lately, and have come to enjoy, is Corner Gas. A Canadian show about a small town in very rural Saskatchewan. It is very witty and funny without stooping to crass. Not too many American Flags though.

In the US it is seen on WGN out of Chicago. If you can, check it out.

I would have really enjoyed some new “Walking With Dinosaurs” episodes.

I only watch The Daily Show, the Colbert report and the local news. It was getting painful to watch Jon or Steven without the writers. Hope they are better tonight with all the writers back.
