In six years as a member of the Wal-Mart board of directors, between 1986 and 1992, Hillary Clinton remained silent as the world’s largest retailer waged a major campaign against labor unions seeking to represent store workers. Clinton has been endorsed for president by more than a dozen unions, according to her campaign Web site, which omits any reference to her role at Wal-Mart in its detailed biography of her. Wal-Mart’s anti-union efforts were headed by one of Clinton’s fellow board members, John Tate, a Wal-Mart executive vice president who also served on the board with Clinton for four of her six years.
Tate was fond of repeating, as he did at a managers meeting in 2004 after his retirement, what he said was his favorite phrase, “Labor unions are nothing but blood-sucking parasites living off the productive labor of people who work for a living.” A former board member told ABCNews.com that he had no recollection of Clinton defending unions during more than 20 board meetings held in private. The tapes show Clinton in the role of a loyal company woman. “I’m always proud of Wal-Mart and what we do and the way we do it better than anybody else,” she said at a June 1990 stockholders meeting.
Is anyone surprised by this? Maybe this will help her with conservatives.

of working without one, if you had you would probably feel different. People who think these corporations aren’t “unionized” against the working people are fooling themselves, problem is there is almost no organization left on the other (working) side. There is no “free market” when it comes to labor.
Yeah, look at it this way….Ann Coulter just said last night that she will campaign for Hillary, if McCain is the republican nominee.
The last thing that the machine wants is an outsider holding the rudder, and Obama and McCain are both (somewhat) outsiders. An outsider might actually expose their earth shaking crimes, after all, and that’s dangerous. An election between the two of them would actually be a choice, and I’m eager for such a thing. But if we get another Bush/Clinton (they literally sleep in the same bed!) or big money type (Romney) we’re all gonna go toilet surfing for a while. Because, frankly, it’s more short-term profitable to sell short America, and the bottom line is all that the Dynastic types and the Corporate Person much care about.

Unions are one of the chief reasons America became as powerful as it is. I think you forget the fact that the increased standard of living provided union workers allowed them to purchase more consumer goods. That increased market stimulated innovation and funded research. Which in turn further increased consumer demand AND money for a better military. It was this consumer market for durable goods that made America great. The increase in money supply allowed for more and better education, which in turn helped fuel a better standard of living.
In comparison, the Soviet Union, with more people and more natural resources failed. Why? Because they never allowed their workers to earn a decent salary or cultivate a consumer base. As people became more and more disenchanted with knowing American (and westerners in general) could buy a new car off the lot instead of a piece of crap after waiting two years for delivery and similar things, the nation imploded.
There is more evidence that American unions contributed to the Soviet collapse than there is for Reagan causing it. Before Reagan took office, the United States had the highest standard of living in the world. After Republican efforts to destroy unions America has fallen behind most other western countries.
I’ll be waiting for that self designated economics expert, Thomas, to of course try to offer some different explanation of why unions hurt America. Something along the lines of “well, unions initiated health insurance and look what we have today” or “unions pushed hard for safe work environments and now look, companies are actually responsible for killing employees”

Some tv show interviewed “a voter” somewhere===lost their job, lost their health insurance, son was in Iraq, house in foreclosure==but they were going to vote republican because they are for right to life.

The Founding Fathers and myself are in agreement, and if only egotistically, don’t think our interests are boneheaded thoughts. No–I am instead complaining of what the forefathers warned us against.
Yep, the USA government IS too far from the people and the people don’t seem to be able to reign them in==across a wide latitude of conflicting interests. Somehow the “special interests/corporate interests” have their hooks in this government so deeply==sadly, only a revolution can get this nation back on track.
But I guess that is what every 10% group of like minded people think? I only ask==forget your “values”==what will actually work?
Actually, Hillary Clinton did try to push through a lot of pro-Union policies when she was at Wal-Mart, but she knew at the time that her chances were effectively zero at getting any reform enacted because of all the old stuffy rich men on the board.

Well Tihz—that is my point, with a twist. In a democracy that has gone off the rails with the Repuglican lies, what responsibility does the outvoted minority have? Not that much I think but to wait 4 years and try again. So, as in most/many things the ying/yang of it all needs to be untwisted.
Or do you disagree? Boneheads voted for BushCo, dems/liberal did not. How much of Bush do I deserve? Is the answer dependent on how much I did besides voting?–etc.
I think that notion of people “deserving” what they good sounds too much/too often like blaming the victims of violent crime. Germ of truth, but the violators are 95% responsible.
