• Microsoft says they are only in planning stages for Microsoft Windows 7.
  • Blu-ray is the next VHS says PC World. Bad comparison.
  • Nokia making hay with Trolltech.
  • Skye Dayton pulls out of Helio.
  • The Demo show gets ink. I’ve never seen anything come of products shown at Demo.

“Microsoft stock falls flat again.” Has Microsoft ever, in it’s entire listed history, produced a stock dividend?

  2. Gary, the dangerous infidel says:

#1, not stock dividends, just cash. Microsoft started with annual dividends in 2003, and switched to a quarterly basis in 2005.

Talking about stock prices falling flat, though, look at how VMware stock dropped after they reported earnings last night. They closed at 83 bucks yesterday and opened this morning at 58 and change. Whoosh!

  3. ECA says:

Stocks= Long term LOAN from abunch of people, insted of a BANK.
dividends = SMALL amounts of interest, insted of PAYING BACK THE LOAN…

  4. TIHZ_HO says:

Well I have been commenting that Windows 7 is about two years away and what is the big deal with it every time it pops up. 😉

    Cheers

  5. Gary, the dangerous infidel says:

#4 TIHZ_HO, Windows Seven MAY be a big deal to some of us (time will tell). I’ve already just about decided I can skip Vista if Seven comes in on schedule. If Seven is architecturally similar enough to Vista (especially drivers), I can save some of the headaches and all the expense of Vista. Every piece of hardware I purchase between now and then will be Vista compatible (also XP), and hopefully Microsoft designed their new driver model with enough longevity in mind that it won’t change again with Seven, so migration will be much less painful when Seven is released. Hell, I have a couple of peripherals and cards that are fully functional on Win2K drivers, with nothing newer released.

Right now, the true cost of Vista goes well beyond the excessive price of the OS itself.

Well the remnants of the computer industry got another reprieve I see… Microsofts monopoly oversight was extended for two more years. Once that comes off though, Microsoft will grow to 500 billion dollars and finish off the last remnants (dead enders) of the operating system wars of the 90’s.

Got to hand to the entire rest of the computer industry though, after perhaps the largest ever viral advertising campaign against Microsoft, going into decades now, they have managed to affect microsoft… not at all. Although I see the Unix remnants are switching to OSX now. I have to wonder is this year the end of Unix(and unix like) being a viable platform? Getting real close now.

  7. ShaolinDolemite says:

John, Blu-ray is the new VHS because it is the lesser of the two formats (interactivity, codecs, Blu-ray only just now starting to standardize the players). I’ve given in to the fact that Blu-ray has “won” but it won in the same way VHS did- a crappy product beating out a superior one (though it’s funny to me because VHS won because it was less expensive to produce but the quality was crap- where was Blu-ray is more expensive, like Beta, but isn’t nearly as good as HD DVD- the cheaper of the two to produce. Ah, the power of the all mighty dollar).

  8. qsabe says:

XP SP3 to be released later this year. Same time as Office 2003 SP3.. We can wait if Microsoft doesn’t intentionally kill XP with this patch.

  9. Thomas says:

Microsoft’s stock is directly tied to Vista-hate. It just has too much DRM-crap and too many performance issues. Regarding Microsoft’s time table, keep in mind that Microsoft has already stated that they will not redesign their OS. If that is actually the case, then three years to put another happy shine on Vista is not unreasonable.

A lot of people compare Vista to Windows ME. However, the difference is that with ME, Microsoft had the NT line working in parallel and had already planned to consolidate the product lines. In the case of Vista, not only do they not have a parallel OS line, Vista has systemic problems which will not go away without a rewrite. So, Vista is a far worse albatross than ME. There are *many* businesses that simply do not know what to do because they do not want to upgrade to Vista and they know XP’s support cycle will eventually run out and switching operating systems company wide is extraordinarily expensive.
