Dwarves zipped in suitcases steal from Swedes – Telegraph

This is rich.

Criminal gangs are using dwarves in a ruse to steal from the luggage holds of long-distance coaches, by hiding them inside suitcases, according to police.

The bizarre crime is on the rise in Sweden and officers say thieves have got away with thousands of pounds in cash, jewelery and other valuables in recent months.

Dwarves zipped in suitcases steal from Swedes
The dwarves hide themselves and their loot in bags

Gangs are said to sneak the dwarves into the luggage hold, hidden inside baggage.

Then, once the journey has begun, the stowaways are free to rifle through the bags of other passengers without fear of being apprehended.

Before the coach arrives at its destination the dwarves take their loot back into their suitcase, zip themselves inside and wait to be collected by their partners in crime.

    Is a dwarf the new Politically Correct term for a midget?

  2. Cursor_ says:

    Nope can’t find a corresponding press release on this story.

    But I found this:

    http://www.thelocal.se/9728/20080121/

    Where it is suspected that either LP’s or children are stealing on buses. Perhaps that wasn’t good enough for the Telegraph and they needed to boost up the story for more pizzazz?

    I can’t help but wonder how many dwarfs, for whatever reason, could not get out of their bags and are now dead in some airport lost and found department. That place is gonna stink real soon.

    Some LPs (Little People is the PC term) will accept dwarf dur to Billy Barty and others that accepted the term.

    The M word is like the N word.

    Like the S word for spanish, K word for Jews, M word for Irish and W word for Italians.

    The best thing would be to call LPs, or anyone for that matter, by their given names.

    For those who aren’t afraid of actual words, here is the translation from #4 Cursor_’s post:

    M = Midget
    N = Nigger
    S = Spic
    K = Kyke
    M = Mick
    W = Wop

    They are just words for Christ sake!

  6. Calin says:

    The S word for spanish? I didn’t know there was a racial slur for Spaniards.

    I wonder why the security X-Ray machine didn’t fry the little buggers while they were in the suitcases? Or at least the security folks should have been able to identify the drawf’s skeleton.

    Dwarves, midgets or little people, either way they did this to save money on the diapers they had to use when they had trained monkeys doing the work before.

    It’s a bus. We don’t xray bags on buses. It’s been some time, but I don’t recall that being done even on US bus terminals.

  11. the answer says:

    JBenson has it right. X ray the bags, and fry the buggers. Oh were you in there? I’m sorry. Zap!

    #1 – Is a dwarf the new Politically Correct term for a midget?

    Why is “politically correct” capitalized above? When did that rather meaningless and almost universally misused phrase earn capital letters?

    It’s not even a noun. It’s damned adjective.

    And why do some folks think it is such a huge imposition to use language that doesn’t offend the shit out of a class of people for attributes that they have absolutely no control over?

  13. jbenson2 says:

    I capitalized the words because I did not want to use the hidden computer html code to highlight the phrase.

    It’s bad enough that we have these politically correct words and phrases jammed down our throats, but now I see that there are sensitive people who even object to the politically correct phrase “Politically Correct” as being offensive.

    Give me an f’n break and get a life.

  14. Calin says:

    And why do some folks think it is such a huge imposition to use language that doesn’t offend the shit out of a class of people for attributes that they have absolutely no control over?

    I don’t know. Why do some folks think they can dictate what others think and say? Or does freedom of speech only apply if no ones “feelings” get hurt?

  15. ky13 says:

    The term “Politically Correct” has been deemed insensitive. The world “politically” makes reference to a system of authoritative power that not all cultures share, and the term “correct” is demeaning to people of lesser intelligence. Therefore, the term “Politically Correct” will now be replaced with the much less offensive, “Platitudinally Acceptable”. Thank you.

  16. OhForTheLoveOf says:

    #14 – I see that there are sensitive people who even object to the politically correct phrase “Politically Correct” as being offensive.

    It isn’t offensive. It’s just grammatically wrong… as is the notion that anything is “jammed down our throats.”

    But English is a pretty easy language to use. I seem to recall having classes in it from the start of elementary school all the way through college, so really, there isn’t any American, Canadian, or Brit who should ever be confused by it.

    #15 – I don’t know. Why do some folks think they can dictate what others think and say? Or does freedom of speech only apply if no ones “feelings” get hurt?

    I don’t care if people use racist or otherwise insensitive language. It’s how I can tell who is a rational and compassionate human and who is a jerk.

    You can pretend its some kind of free speech issue, but that’s just bullshit to cover for the fact that one is the sort of asshat that thinks swiping entire classes of people with slurs is perfectly acceptable.

  17. Mister Catshit says:

    #, lmj3325,

    Yes, they are words. Words on a monitor too. By themselves they mean diddly. It is only when they become part of a sentence and used to confer a negative connotation upon a whole class or group of people that they may become offensive.

    The words don’t become offensive. They are only words. Inanimate objects. A collection of letters arranged into a sequence.

    The thought that becomes apparent in the sentence is may become offensive. Why may? Simply because there could conceivably be some usage I am unaware of that is not offensive.

    It hs been my understanding that a Midget is a small though regularly formed person A Dwarf is a person with a congenital health problem where many bones do not grow to their full length and are often malformed and there are some other health conditions that are usually present.

    Hey! I posted a comment this morning, but it never appeared!

    It was about politically correct terms, and I had a link to the Wikipedia article about euphemism treadmills. New, intentionally inoffensive words over time take on the negative connotations of whatever they describe, so new words are designed to replace them, but those words too become increasingly derisive over time. It’s called pejoration.

  23. James N. says:

    I can agree that if a person doesn’t intend to be offensive they would not use the obvious offensive words to describe a person. However I can agree that it has gotten a little too treacherous on a lot of words since the accepted words are always changing. Talking or writing is about communicating how a person thinks or feels and if a person even kiddingly or accidentally calls a person or group of people by an unacceptable name, people want to crucify them. If the subject is about being respectful, kind and loving then is it acceptable to be so gosh darn sensitive to what is the current acceptable term. I don’t think any person or group should be disrespected, however if someone intent wasn’t to be disrespectful why assume they meant to be. I hear a lot of older people referring to black people as colored people and that was what they got used to saying and I really don’t think most mean anything bad by it, however it sounds odd and possibly disrespectful today. I think we need better balance on the issue. Sensitivity, but not over sensitivity which seems to be overblown by the media to sensationalize.
    Isn’t it funny that what supposed to be such a taboo subject is all that a lot of movies and comedians have as subject matter. For instance Dave Chapell had what I considered a refreshing take on a lot of racial issues and that was certainly the main subject matter of his show. Rap being rife with the N word all the time gets old. If the N word is so taboo everyone should stop using it It seems like a no-win situation anymore.

    well when you call a african american. a american there afended because you didn’t call them african american.even thow they have no relation to africa.im sensitive there not proud to be an american.

  25. TIHZ_HO says:

    #25 When I was growing up in Buffalo NY it was common that kids would ask each other what nationality they were – Italian, Polish and so on. This of course was wrong as our nationality is American but it was meant as pride in heritage. I would say that African Americans feel the same.

    I know of some Americans who do the same – they call themselves Italian Americans and Polish Americans.

    IMHO far too much time is spent trying to make the world a politically perfect place where everyone holds hands singing “We are the world” – its impossible so I would suggest to get your mind set to “it is what it is” and enjoy the life you have and let others do the same. 😉

    Cheers
