Gulf Arab oil exporter Abu Dhabi plans to spend $15 billion in the first phase of an initiative to develop green energy and build the world’s largest hydrogen power plant.
The investment would be part of the Masdar initiative, set up to develop sustainable and clean energy, Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahayan told the World Future Energy Summit…
The money will go into infrastructure, renewable energy projects such as solar power, and manufacturing, to position Abu Dhabi as a leader in the global clean energy market, said Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of Masdar…
Abu Dhabi, capital of the seven-member United Arab Emirates federation, would also build the world’s largest hydrogen power plant with 500 megawatts of capacity, said Jaber.
Masdar will hold a 60 percent stake in the “multi-billion-dollar joint venture,” a Masdar official said, adding that the rest would be equally held by British Petroleum and Rio Tinto.
I am pleased to see they’re spending my money wisely.

Agree with #1. At least the sheikhs are dealing in advance and early with energy problems. That means they’re brighter than our own [whoopee for us] democratically elected officials.
They certainly have their finger on things.
At least they’re trying to walk the walk. Our guys only care if they can make money off it, that’s including both the dems and reps.

With all these green projects, when will the cost of solar panels go down? They have always claimed that the cost will go down when sales go up. 🙁

Green energy is anything but green. The manufacturing process is intense and usually involves harsh chemicals transported from distant places.

Thats how fluorescent lamps work – electricity ionizing mercury vapour producing invisible HARD UV which is converted to visible light by the phosphor power that coats the inside of the glass tube.
Break one and you have mercury laden phosphor powder floating around – but then they never get broken, do they?
And not to worry everyone will be responsible and dispose of them properly.
