  2. blakjak says:

hehehe, that was cool. I like seeing cars ghost it down big dirty hills… and it ended up on its wheels, nice.

btw, I think ‘morans’ is getting just a little bit old now.

  3. I just keep finding excuses to post demotivators. There’s a perfect one for this ….

#1 Gasbag- “Well they did get the car back on it’s wheels”

True, and that clearly illustrates exactly how Chinese logic works, the TASK is important, not the RESULT instead of the RESULT determines the TASK. For anyone who has spent time in China they would be nodding their heads right now.

    Cheers

    Procedure… must follow… procedure… 😉

  7. TIHZ_HO♦ says:

    #6 Jägermeister True!

We had just moved and we wanted the walls painted something other than what every Chinese house has – flat white.

Against my better judgment I agreed with my wife to get Chinese painters before we moved in – I wanted to do the job.

The painter assured us that there wouldn’t be any paint on our polished cherrywood floors as he will use plastic sheets.

Somehow his painters didn’t have that one piece of information. Yes there was plastic sheets on the floor but they were kicked and moved out of the way.

When I complained the painter said that there is no problem as they used plastic sheets and would clean up any paint from the floor. (?)

I didn’t see one worker using sandpaper to remove the paint…so now there are all these sanded spots on the floor…but no paint.

The painter now argues that this was not done by his workers.

    The saga continues…

I don’t know how to upload photos to comments as I have a few gems…

    Cheers

Well gosh–aren’t we being just a bit “harsh?” Easy to screw things up the first few times, thats why there are check lists. In other words–I could see myself, and all of us, doing exactly the same thing.

I recall once wondering how nurses could be so stupid to “needlestick” themselves. So, I got a needle and carefully removed the protective cap====and sure enough, the momentum/reflex was for my fingers to snap back and I stuck myself with the needle. Rats!!!

This also reminds me of the post months back about the fork lift driver dropping the $MM computer off his machine? The value of experience.

These aren’t morans, just average/normal people doing something for the first time.

  9. Thinkdeep says:

Which do you want? The car turned over or the parking brake set?

Gosh you’re a pain in the *ss.

  10. Ah_Yea says:

#7: TIHZ_HO Man have you got that right! That is the hardest problem working with businesses in China. They want – no, need – to have every little step pointed out in minute detail! It’s hard to find a free-thinker (except maybe in prison). And if they screw up, they – including the federal government – will go to any absurd length to save face! I love the people but it drives me CRAZY!!!!

Think of dealing with Chinese workers like writing software code – miss a step and the program may crash and it’s buggy as hell! 😉

I have been in China for many years, my wife is Chinese and we have a few businesses which have recently started exporting. How about you?

The one nice thing that keeps one sane in China is the local watering holes are great and cheap. :p

    Cheers

Best laugh of the day. Totally unexpected landing back on its wheels.

When they build cars like that today, do they come with the dents already in them?

  14. Ah_Yea says:

#17 HA! HA! HA! HA! That’s it!

I know what you mean about the local watering holes. One of the things I enjoy immensely in China is going out to eat. Like you said, it’s cheap, the food’s great (and better than the discovery channel you’re willing to experiment), and the ambiance if just outright fun.

We produce a device which cuts engine oil usage by a vehicle to about 1/3 of normal. The product is sold in the US and now China. We have found that China is very excited about this product because the Country really needs it in spades! Reduces the need for imports and reduces pollution as well.

We really couldn’t be happier to help. Win-Win all around.

  15. Phillep says:

A couple of thousand years of workers having their heads whacked off for not doing as they are told might just have an effect on the customs, eh?

    I guessed-
    #1-Someone gets crushed.
#2-Car gets flipped back on its roof.
    #3-Someone gets run over.

I never guessed that would happen! Looks like I’m a moran too.

  17. ECA says:

    OK…
    I figured this out….
    1. it WASNT in Park
    2. It wasnt in ANY GEAR
    3. it had to be in Neutral or WORN OUT Parking gear.
    4. NO parking brake.

It Rolled to EASY, and took off, to fast.

  18. TIHZ_HO says:

#15 Phillep – That’s exactly right! Add to that under Mao it was ZERO tolerance and no one could question anything just do it as you are told.

Add to this Chinese believe information is power and no one likes to share power.

    Need proof?

Call any Chinese government department to do something and ask what forms etc you need to do it. Guaranteed when you get to them (from across town) you:

    A/Its not the right form
B/It needs some stamp of some kind
    C/An additional form
    D/At the wrong place
    E/All of the above

Ask the same question three times and get three different but somewhat related answers. 😉

    Cheers

That’s one heck of a horror story. I thought that some of the contractors here were bad, but it seems you got your share. And yes, I would like to see their masterpiece.

#10 – Ah_Yea – And if they screw up, they – including the federal government – will go to any absurd length to save face!

I hear you. It doesn’t matter how much it’s their fault… the cover up is one heck of a show.

#14 – Ah_Yea – One of the things I enjoy immensely in China is going out to eat. Like you said, it’s cheap, the food’s great (and better than the discovery channel you’re willing to experiment), and the ambiance if just outright fun.

Couldn’t agree more. I love the different styles of Chinese cuisine.

    #18 – TIHZ_HO

Mao was an asshole of big proportions. My wife grew up during the Cultural Revolution. Continuous persecution and not always food on the table.

Ask the same question three times and get three different but somewhat related answers.

Ask a question and if they don’t know the answer, they’ll make one up for you. 😉
