People who chew sugarless gum and eat sugarless sweets are at risk for chronic diarrhea and severe weight loss, according to a new study published this week in the British Medical Association journal, BMJ.

Researchers say sorbitol, one of the ingredients in sugarless candy, sweets and gum, has laxative properties and is poorly absorbed by the small intestine.
Many sugar-free sweets containing sorbitol warn consumers of a laxative effect, but fail to recognize a link with their gastrointestinal problems, the authors

Uh… That’s the large intestine the one you should be talking about.
I can attest to the truth in this. i recently had the flu and I was eating sugar free ricola like a mad man until!! I am sure you get the idea.

Sorbitol is BETTER then the OTHER sugar replacements..
SOME of the others are carcinogens, and the LAst few, havent REALLY been tested..
WHATEVER. just give me a completely fat free version of awesome strawberry cheesecake. I will die from endorphin overdose before I get cancer or whatever
I and some co-workers found this out the hard way years ago. We had cases of BreathSavers left over from an automation project. Since they were free we all pounded down 15-20 tubes each in a day. Lets say the next day at work was “unpleasant”……
