I believe the text in the current picture says ‘Each year, in China, thousands of babies are abandoned, a consequence of the one child policy. And females pay a high price. Abandon, abortion and infanticide are so common that their numbers drop dramatically. For every 100 declared born females, there are now 118 males’.

Its fake! Look at the grass at the top, poorly done.

[ed. – I changed the picture since I agree with the comment. For those that want to see the picture, here it is]

  2. Peter Garner says:

The translation of the caption is basically correct except that instead of “two thousand babies” it should be “thousands of babies”

[ed. – Corrected, thanks. My French is quite poor as you can see ;)]

  3. Personality says:

I thought that China had become more lenient on that policy?

  4. MikeN says:

All encouraged by the UN and population control types.

  5. GetSmart says:

At least China will have lots of surplus males to use as cannon fodder.

  6. Pete says:

#5 to add on your comment. India has a similar problem. And both coutries share a common disputed border. Cannon fodder to be used before they cause problems at home. (too many males.. not enough woman = way to much testosterone)

  7. keane-o says:

Bogus photo if it’s supposed to illustrate the caption. But, it will make Christian Cold Warriors all juicy.

  8. Balbas says:

Actually, the reason for the “one-child” policy is so that people produce more male children rather than female, as China realizes that women make poor soldiers to invade Taiwan, Japan, Philippines, Australia…

  9. keane-o says:

In the last couple hundred years or so, China was the nation more often invaded than not.

Cripes, your heart is bleeding over Japan? Ask any Asian, dude.

  10. Jeff P. says:

#7, you freak. This has nothing to do with Christians or non-Christians, it has everything to do with compassion, decency and, dare I say it…LOVE. This innocent child left dead in a gutter. My God, how tragic. So many people would have loved to have taken in this baby and given it a life. The people walking around this poor baby as if it were a a pile of dog crap make me sick.

  11. forrest says:

    Real or not…that’s pretty disturbing…

  12. Improbus says:

Who needs horror movies when you have real life?

  13. D. Faver says:

Given the over-population of males, China will soon become the vacation spot of choice for gay men.

  14. manicxellos says:

China’s policy is not as strict as most press or onlookers make it sound. The policy of one child does exist but in the case of a second or more children being born the penalty is only a one time only monetary fine. Last I heard this fine is approx. $500 (US conversion) dollars, which for the lower class in china who earn about $50 (US conversion) a month is an extreme fine, but for the middle to upper class there is really no problem. It is a stereotype that a girl is sacrificed in order to have a male child, and just like most stereotypes there are cases of this happening, but not at the level of thousands. The number is relatively small being isolated in agricultural areas where some don’t wish to pay the fine, and want a male to help on the homestead with crops. As a side note the ratio of male to female is normally around 105 males per 100 females which in the past the US has had up to 120:100, there has been a lot of circumstantial research on this trying to prove that as the environment is more polluted the ratio becomes more female. Current values right now place the US at 104.6:100. If research is true then in less polluted areas of china, such as agricultural areas, there would be a higher chance to give birth to a male offspring. Meaning those who wish a male will most likely get it the first time if living on a farm, while those in a city will more then likely give birth to a female. The important thing to note is that those in cities who wish to have a male at this point have a chance at affording a second child trying for a male. This economic, and environmental difference is what most likely leads to such ideas like the females being aborted in the first place.

  15. Rick Cain says:

Thats their problem. Now many of China’s young males can’t find wives. Serves them right for being yet another male-dominated culture that needs to get out of the 14th century.
