He died for our presents!
Daily News – December 22, 2007:

If you’ve stood in one line too many at the mall as you watched your bank account dwindle and your credit debt rise this holiday season, you might find a kindred spirit in Art Conrad.

The Bremerton, Wash., resident is fed up with the commercial aspects of Christmas, and he’s voicing his protest in the form of some unorthodox holiday decorating: Santa on the cross.

Conrad has nailed jolly old St. Nick to a 15-foot crucifix in front of his home.

“Santa has been perverted from who he started out to be,” Conrad said. “Now he’s the person being used by corporations to get us to buy more stuff.”

  1. JPV says:

Yes indeed, Santa has been “perverted”… from his original Pagan origins.

  2. Gasbag says:

I always wanted to that to the fat asshole after I didn’t got that bike when I was six.

  3. ArianeB says:

Yes, jolly old St. Nick is a christianized synthesis of the teutonic sea god Hold Nickar and a mushroom gathering shaman tradition of various northern tribes according to this web page.

By the way, the tradition of gift giving at winter solstice predates Christianity.

  4. Dallas says:

So St Nick runs around giving gifts to unrelated kids, at night in a big red trench coat and now that’s bad? OK, so maybe that is bad in the big city. Either way, crucifixion is a bit over the top.

  5. uteck says:

If you listen closely you can hear him say; “Forgive them Rudolf, they know not what they do.” And thus Santa has died so we may have a vacation day.

I guess this is a perversion of the Christian faith the same way the Cult of the Virgin is, and the veneration of Saints, and being Born Again. Face it, the religion was perverted the moment Jesus died and it stopped being a pacifist sect of Judaism.

  6. Rabble Rouser says:

Don’t you all know that Santa is an anagram for SATAN?!?!?!?!

  7. RC1997 says:

    ART CONRAD YOU ROCK!!

  8. Greg Allen says:

Trashing Christian symbols is strictly for pansies.

You ain’t nothin’ unless you go to Iran or Saudi and pull a stunt like that. Otherwise, you’re just a poser.

  9. DeLeMa says:

    #8 –
Now THAT’S how you do it !!

    L O L !!!

  10. Mister Catshit says:

    #6, RR

SATAN is really an anagram for Santa.

  11. Pharaoh90 says:

Santa ain’t no pagan. Santa is the commercialization of a real dude that gave out gifts to kids and dowries. Then the Christians came and got ’em. Then ad men came and he went from saint to satan.

  12. Joshua says:

I really don’t care when Santa came about or what cult in the mist’s of the past did what, when and who with him under whatever names.
All religion’s are based on the best things about the previous successful religions. Sort of like car manufacturing used to be in this country.
Santa mean’s big buck’s these days, nothing compared to his predessor’s who gave fruit and a few candies to little children along with a bit of sage advice.

Even those in here who give us the benifit of their great wisdom with Wiki stories on how St. Nick came about are not aware(apparently) that St. Nick isn’t a religious symbol at all, Christian or otherwise. He has become nothing more than the symbol of buying the world over, no matter the religion or culture.

  13. RobLeather says:

OK. #8 Santa ISN’T a Christian symbol. I was derailed a priests sermon about Christmas by asking him where in the bible Santa turned up. He was suggesting we donate one of our gifts to the poor, “as Santa would want.”. I was fine with the idea, but couldn’t understand why Santa didn’t do the delivery in person.

#12 Santa / St. Nick being pre-Christian is FACT. In fact, Jesus being born on the 25th of December is also a known misnomer.

Likely dates appear to be in the September / October time frame. After all, our current calendar, Gregorian replaced the original Julian calender and as a result 10 days were dropped when it was adopted in 1582.

It was ‘shifted’ to fall into line a pre-existing festival.

This adoption is a common feature of Christianity. Think about Easter and the bunny, egg etc. It’s a festival of Spring and fertility. Nothing to do with the resurrection of Jesus.
